I've spent a good portion of my career studying and writing about narcissism, so let me point out something not usually considered.
It is Dr. Craig's thesis that "kids today" are overpraised-- too much focus on self-esteem-- and they are becoming narcissists. But the most important fact that seems to have eluded her is that it is the adults of today who are overpraising the kids.
The problem is actually the adults, who are themselves so profoundly narcissistic that they can't help but see their own progeny as extensions of themselves _and nothing more._ Time Magazine, in 2006, chose "You" as it's Person of The Year. Time Magazine's readership isn't teens.
Allan Bloom's Closing of The American Mind described how college kids, steeped in relativism, were unable to create a meaningful life outside of self-gratification and self-fulfillment. Was he right? Before you answer, note that he wrote that book in 1987. Those college kids are 40 now.
Why is it that when an article says something works, people are suspicious of bias, but when an article says something doesn't work, everyone thinks it's objective science? IT'S ALL BIAS.
Sigh. Anyone wonder why it is that all of a sudden we see so many articles about how SSRIs don't work? For 20 years, all we heard was SSRIs were panaceas. Now...... as if we have new data? Someone FOIAed the second Zapruder film?
This vaccine, TA-CD, has been in the works since at least 1999. It's owned by Celtic Pharma-- after changing hands three previous times.
There are two other vaccines by other groups (one uses a different bug, and the other is a lattice of cocaine molecules big enough to generate an immune response.) Observe that neither of these two others was mentioned in the article.
There isn't anything new about this story, i.e. nothing to merit a sudden flurry of news articles, EXCEPT that the group just submitted a huge grant to the FDA in December and "is awaiting a response."
In other words, this isn't a news story, it's a press release.

Why is this story appearing now?

Not that there's anything wrong with this.
