    That, or interaction with the gravitational field. Neutrinos from the supernova traveled through essentially flat spacetime, far from any masses.

    How about the mass of the supernova from which the neutrinos had to escape?

    It's possible for all of us to have descended from Lucy/African Eve because she lived several million years ago, instead of the Biblical Eve who purportedly lived 6000 years ago. It's the 6000-year figure that makes it impossible for this much variation to occur.

    Stop me if I'm wrong, but Google previews the first line of the message, right next to the Subject header (as is evident in the screen shot). So there's no need to even "read" the message.

    I can accept the possibility of this being an instance of incredibly dumb coding, but it's incredibly dumb only in the sense that the developer didn't obfuscate his credentials, or just use a mail server that doesn't require SMTP authentication. There is no other possible reason for this malicious code except to harvest users' passwords. What conceivable "debugging" purpose could this gem have?

    The mass of elementary particles is measured in units of energy (thank Albert Einstein for that connection), namely the electron-volt. Essentially, physicists look for the amount of energy it takes for a certain particle to come into existence. The photon does not have mass by definition, since it travels at the speed of light. The Higgs Boson, on the other hand, is expected to be quite massive.
