Stop me if I'm wrong, but Google previews the first line of the message, right next to the Subject header (as is evident in the screen shot). So there's no need to even "read" the message.
I can accept the possibility of this being an instance of incredibly dumb coding, but it's incredibly dumb only in the sense that the developer didn't obfuscate his credentials, or just use a mail server that doesn't require SMTP authentication.
There is no other possible reason for this malicious code except to harvest users' passwords. What conceivable "debugging" purpose could this gem have?
