No they don't. They are dirty, fractious, rebellious, and a zillion other flaws. Robots are far more useful and you don't have to travel light years to get them.
that is censorship since you're censoring information
That's a tautology.
There's a difference between a blog owner saying 'you can't post that on my blog. I will delete it' and the government saying 'You can't post that anywhere including your own blog or else run the risk of jail time/fines/execution'. This is why the latter is censorship and the former is simply owner's discretion. Is the radio station declining to play a particular song censorship?
The definition of 'censorship' is government action. At least, that's the most common definition. I suppose you could argue that the more colloquial usage of 'someone told me I can't do whatever I please' is also a valid definition.
Entities and people unrelated to the government can engage in censorship
How can something outside of the government engage in censorship? Since censorship means "you cannot say this". How can some other organization prevent you from saying anything you like? Sure, they don't have to let you post it on your blog, but that's very different from telling you under threat that you cannot say it anywhere.
My reaction was something similar. I question the value of a search engine when it is no longer neutral. Now I will only see what Google has decided it is in my interest to see. This technology will be used in the future to skew political searches for example, or to favor one company's products over another's. (If it isn't already.) Now if they said 'we are using Google's search engine to catch child pornographers' I would say good for you please continue.
Yes, go to any seminar or training conference. Line up the people with the most certifications, 9/10 of them will be government employees. They've got all the time in the world to collect certifications.
How is this not healthy for the consumer? Goods available at almost no markup on cost sounds like a great deal to me. Whether this works long term for Amazon isn't my problem. I hope it does, because I benefit from lower prices.
The farmer sent samples of these curious plants to , a scientist at Oregon State University who has investigated other cases in which genetically engineered crops spread beyond their approved boundaries.
This has to be called out since/. routinely scoffs at any study remotely connected to anyone who might benefit from the results. It seems from this that the folks involved in this discovery have their own agenda. I'm not saying the info should be discarded, just that there could be more going on than the article spells out. Let's keep an eye out.
Thanks for this! I hadn't really thought about the possibilities of a combined gas/electric car ecosystem. This got me thinking about my own car use. How much do you think you are saving, does this offset the higher initial cost of the EV? Sadly I live in an apt building I don't think running an extension cord out the window to the parking lot is practical. Yet.
Since when is a philosopher an "expert"? Aside from his observations being so much pointless blather, couldn't any of the other four or even a random person off the street be just as much a philosopher as this guy?
Opinions differ as to what governments are supposed to be. Some, for instance, might claim that government are instituted among humans to safeguard certain inalienable rights.
I never said corporate income tax was not meant to be collected, nor did I say it wasn't collected. I said corporations didn't "pay much" in income tax. I grant that is rather subjective, but it is still non-zero.
I challenge you to find a corporation that is paying ZERO in taxes, which is the phrase the article used. Regardless of localized sweetheart deals or incentive abatements or whatever, they are still paying fees, sales or VAT tax, and many more. Hence my retort that claiming a corporation pays "zero in taxes" is a gross distortion. Whether or not they should be paying more, or be allowed to structure in such a way to avoid paying certain taxes, is a different discussion.
Cost and expenses aren't equivalent. Expenses include expansion, new goods and services, research. All the things that create wealth. The idea of the different tax structure is to encourage that sort of investment.
Humans make a great slave labor force.

To put this into perspective, if you were to write this data onto standard DVDs, the resulting stack would be more than 2 miles tall.
This doesn't put it into perspective at all. What is a DVD and why would I put data on it?
I get great quality on a 55" screen from Netflix. Perhaps the ISP or the player make a difference in this regard. I'm using a Roku 3.

Lackey: Boss, this employee is trying to prove you are incompetent!
Boss: I can prove that as well as he can.
Isn't that what retailers do? I don't think we would want there to be only one retailer of any given type of product.

You would need a metaprinter to print a new printer.
Since you keep going back to work there, it seems your employers have a better handle on the situation.

Plus enough profit to make them want to go through it all over again for the next book
There's the rub. In other words, the price *should be* what it is now.

But stool transplants might still be preferable...
I smell an upcoming /. poll

That's a story as old as the hills
cancelling all remote working while the rest of the word is learning how to adapt to and benefit from it
Google doesn't allow much remote work either. Are you claiming Google is also run by idiotic, overrated bimbos?
You forget that when someone else does this, it/they are not paying their "fair share". When I do it it is perfectly reasonable.
No it doesn't it just prints the money.
Can you please define what "fair share" means?
