Not like Agent Smith or anything, but at my old job, I handled security and DMCA related issues. We constantly get tons and tons of notices from music and movie groups about coyprighted material. Not once out of over 300 notices has one ever been incorrect. The person has admitted that they were doing something stupid, like sharing over Kazaa, and that they wouldn't do it again.
I am all for IP rights and I am a follower of Lessig's work, but sometimes, you have to face facts. The vast, vast, vast majority of time, the complaint is legitimate, and the ISPs have a legal obligation to act upon the DMCA notices. Unfortunately, I feel that sometimes, especially on Slashdot, people latch onto a few cases, and use them as the basis of judging everything, which is definitely biased. Yes, the system is not perfect, sometimes notices are incorrect, due to human or computer error. Mistakes happen, regardless of the system. Just look at how many times stories get double posted on Slashdot.
Nobody knows how old the sourcecode actually is! Several people have used IE 5 and the exploit code does not work. The things in the code could have, and in this case, has, been fixed long ago!
I'm sure that to many privacy advocates, this would be a huge mis-use of information. I am not one of those people.
I honestly don't think that the information was any mis-use of privacy invasion and honestly, who wouldn't want such a miniscule invasion of privacy compared to the very real possibility that they could get sick or die from bad beef?
Some people just need to calm down or re-evaluate their sense of self importance.
I think there's something wrong with your arguement. Just because KDE "won the desktop war" doesn't mean people should use its default browser. That's EXACTLY like saying Microsoft is winning the os war thus you should use Internet Explorer.
Mozilla is a fine, cross-platform browser which fits Oracle's needs. Right now, cross-platform applications are going to be necessary to introduce to Windows users so that when they are ready to switch, their anxieties can be alleaved by pointing out the same applications are available over here.
Actually, if you download the source code, it is released under the GPL. Just take a look at the COPYING file. Try looking at the facts before going on a rant.
I live and currently attend the University at Albany. Right now, they are actually building a research center with a grant from IBM to do some sort of chip research/manufacturing. So IBM will be closer than you may think...
As for the town itself, it's really cheap to live here and I'd like to keep it that way.
The U at A final plan is to have all the residential areas inhabited by freshman only, and after freshman year you move out. There's a problem with that, aside from the obvious not enough staff and that it's a shitty state school, there's not enough housing in Albany to accomadate everyone.
This is perhaps the worst idea I've ever heard in my life, not only would I have to memorize phone numbers, I'd have to goto my phone to see which letter is which if I wanted to visit 976 BOOTY CALL
I have been thinking about this for a while because my old high school used to filter out special websites for no reason. My own website on my own server was blocked for some reason, and they blocked anonymizer, etc....If you just put up your own perl/whatever script somewhere to just get webpages, you're home free, untill the evil sysadmin blocks the entire domain:(. I'm not saying this is some revolutionary idea(Wow a perl script that can fetch webpages!) but it's food for thought.
It's not just the porn part, you can use it to get to any website, it's essentially anonymous surfing with the ability to change text into another language.
I don't understand why this is supposed to shock us. They're just committing software overkill by adding one site to all the subjects, just call it an extra precautionary measure to make SURE the site gets blocked. I don't support censorware, but why is their so much discussion on its blacklist?

Don't even think about getting one of these until they are released in your region. Things just won't work properly the way the system is made.
Great for India. This is a great thing. If only the Indian food place near me would open source the recipe for Chicken Tika Mahkani.
