No, just showing that there is other stuff out there. And while on the topic, have you actually read the book? I have. It was written by someone who saw firsthand how what scientists told the IPCC was "translated" beyond its original meaning. Because he WAS THERE. Also, there is this: Even Flawed Data Can’t Hide the Cooling: http://icecap.us/index.php/go/experts And by the way...debunked by whom? As I said, I am not saying what is correct or incorrect, nor am I going to engage in name calling. If you can't discuss it rationally, maybe you shouldn't discuss at all.

    You can start with this:

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1250872/Climategate-U-turn-Astonishment-scientist-centre-global-warming-email-row-admits-data-organised.html

Headline: Climategate U-turn as scientist at centre of row admits: There has been no global warming since 1995

and some quotes: * Data for vital 'hockey stick graph' has gone missing * There has been no global warming since 1995 * Warming periods have happened before - but NOT due to man-made changes

And on Amazon: The Deniers: The World Renowned Scientists Who Stood Up Against Global Warming Hysteria, Political Persecution, and Fraud**And those who are too fearful to do so by Lawrence Solomon

At this point, the only way you DON'T know that there are scientific issues with some of the "facts" is if you choose not to.

Keep in mind I am not saying that the earth hasn't gotten warmer, nor am I saying that it isn't man-made warming, just that it isn't as scientifically proven as some seem to want to believe.

I'm a network engineer and this part actually doesn't surprise me, and probably doesn't surprise anyone that has used remote control software to provide remote support to less than tech-savvy users. My wife has had me connect to her desktop at home while I am at work, and had the tech support where she works remote into her machine in her office (they are in another state). I don't think you would have much trouble convincing my wife that this is possible. Luckily, if she were to get such a call her response would be "I'll tell my husband and let him worry about it" as she spends ZERO time troubleshooting. She will randomly click on stuff until it works or she gets tired of clicking (this doesn't take long) and then she calls somebody.

But my point is that most people know there is a lot that can be done with computers that they don't understand and could fall for this. What makes me crack up is the scammers telling them to look in the event log. I have supported a LOT of windows machines and good luck finding one without at least warnings in the event log

Yes so the "way it was before" was simply a construct in their mind...how do you reproduce THAT? But I agree that users are not rational. They expect to have problems, so they do. What I find interesting is that often this happens on a subconscious level and they don't realize it. How many times have you been told "it doesn't work" only to see it work perfectly when you watch them do it? They do not realize that they are doing something differently with you watching as opposed to when they do it without you watching. Fascinating stuff

Right. Which is how you view it, but not how they view it. The "logic" goes something like this:

    1) My religion is right, all others are wrong
    2) Since it is the only right answer, all should follow
    3) If you don't follow, you are wrong and I am right to smite thee
    4) When in doubt, refer to rule 3.

How "fundamental" (read: dedicated/crazy) they are determines whether #3 is a rebuke, a slap, or a death squad.

I can see using this to rent games to see if you want to buy them. Nothing pisses me off more than buying a $60 game just to find out the reviews I read hyped me into a bad purchase.

As an infrastructure guy who manages many Windows servers, I always wondered about this as I am not a programmer. Is the problem the OS, or the programs that run on it? I guess there is a 3rd option: The OS allows for crappy software to run. I would be interested in a discussion (with people knowledgeable of such things) that compares the different OSes in that regard: How good are they at forcing good programming habits and standards?

The two main "objective" parts of the game are the aforementioned airport scene and going through DC after much of it has been blown up. After GTA and Fallout 3, I find neither to be that shocking. And since it is just a game, it just didn't bother me. If you need a video game to help you ponder the morals of killing unarmed civilians, then there are larger issues at stake.

I was pleasantly surprised with 7 and ease of installing, etc. I recently replaced my laptop hd and it was a breeze to restore the 7 backup image and resize it to the bigger hd (stuff I was used to being able to do with Ubuntu for some time). I used to dual boot Win/Ubuntu in part for some of the partition tools that were native to Ubuntu. I haven't done a Vista --> 7 upgrade simply because I believe you are better off with clean installs, at least on the Windows side, not experienced enough on the Linux side to say.

well, the question is does fanboy = competent. Someone who is a Linux veteran SHOULD be able to upgrade faster than some windows noob. I have installed every windows OS there is, and a few Linux ones as well (Redhat, Ubuntu, etc). With clean installs, I found Windows to be easier (probably due to the fact I have more experience). I have had issues with Ubuntu upgrades before breaking stuff. Maybe this is the fault of Ubuntu, but is more likely due to my relative inexperience. Bottom line, upgrading has more to do with the skill of the upgrader than anything else.
