Touche; one of your better posts. Those are outlier, however; for machine logic to even begin to handle virtually any of the wide range of tasks that people perform constantly, there need to be massive revolutionary improvements in addition to the evolutionary changes we've seen so far. Our current 'computing models' aren't the way to go about implementing it, either; eventually, digital tools will probably enable far more efficient analog processor designs but until then, 'AI' will remain marketing horseshit spewed forth for the pleasure of Wall Street and the fear of everyone else.

  3. governments inability to address large scale problems

And what makes him think 'government' would perform any differently with him behind the wheel?? GTFOH (i.e. never mind; I don't want to know).

  4. Anyone who sets an autonomous chunk of steel with enough mass to kill free to roam in an uncontrolled space (i.e. onto a public road), with no one *attentive* at the controls, is a dangerous sociopath.

The matter of shitty human drivers is an unrelated matter that could easily be addressed but is instead conveniently being used as a strawman to distract from the insanity of forcing this farcical shit on us.

  5. There was an operator behind the controls in the test vehicle. He didn't hit the brakes or steer around the pedestrian.

Fortunately, they have a brilliant plan to prevent this in the future.

  9. My father was a marine ATC in Korea. He told me in no uncertain terms that he regretted signing up, and that I should never enlist. Much of his advice was bullshit, but that part seemed pretty good.

My dad was trained by the NSA for the Air Force and although he was only enlisted, he impressed the right people and it opened doors for him; a net positive experience, presumably.

He also told me unequivocally to never enlist.

  10. If you'd ever been into MUD's, you'd know that increased realism... doesn't necessarily make things more realistic.

  11. This would explain how mild-mannered losers who've never handled guns in their lives are able to turn into Neo and take out so many people so effectively (I don't tend to believe the usual witness reports of other active shooters at these scenes; I think the "mad skillz" explanations hold more water).

Apparently there's just no discussing this without the brilliant autistic nerds working themselves into a frenzy... "It simple can't be...!" What none of us realize is that when we get frustrated and/or upset (and this subject is particularly frustrating to those who only tend to use their left hemisphere, and upsetting to those who derive comfort from their firm, inflexible view of "reality"), it greatly reduces our ability to think clearly, hence comments such as the one above...
