    I don't know where you got that info (Canada, perhaps?) but it's precisely because of fracking that we have now have such historically-cheap natural gas.

    Compare the following two maps; they speak for themselves:

    shale gas and fracking water use. See any correlation?

    The idealism of the young and/or dumb: the powers-that-be are hardly going to be lining up to allow every other small community the opportunity to become energy-independent. Have you not studied history? (That was a rhetorical question, btw.)

    I have plastic handled tools that are well over 40 years old.

    Those are very much the exception rather than the rule; wood stands up to hot/cold cycles and UV rays far better than plastic, is more comfortable to grip than plastic (especially in extreme temps) and doesn't off-gas a cocktail of cancer-causing and endocrine-disrupting vapors.

    ...and during my 70 mile round trip commute there are no charging stations en route or nearby either end.

    An EV won't meet my needs but it sounds like one would meet yours... unless you don't have A/C at home...??

    Sure, I like innovation but most television providers still deliver their content at 720p.

    And even worse - far worse, IMHO - most so-called "720p displays" have resolutions of 1366Ã--768, thus eliminating pixel-for-pixel clarity unless you have a setting to disable "zoom" (yeah, I understand the industry's need for a vertical rez compatible with legacy standards...).

    Your post is full of generalizations and blanket/redundant statements ("physics," blah blah blah). The physics cancels out on both sides of the equals sign, so-to-speak; the challenges relate to engineering and materials science.

    I'd have said that time will tell if your arguments have merit - except as lighter and more rigid materials - among other things - continue to be developed, time is already showing us that your arguments are steadily ceasing to relevant.
