I can relate. I got a DSLR camera a few weeks ago and have been reading up on it as well as playing with all the cool features. Still disappointed on how much the city lights drown out all the stars. I got a trip planned to a friend's farm out in the country to see if I can start getting some decent stars!

I suspect it's much easier to say this when you're not the one having to travel that road. No offense to you is implied by this observation Mr SatanicPuppy, but from a smaller degree of personal experience, it is easier said than done. The depression I entered after my brother's death (sorry, no details for /.) has had some long lasting effects on me, even if it was 11 years, 7 months and 2 days, 15 hours, 30 minutes ago.

When I was young my friend and I decided to go searching through his parent's closet during the holiday season cause that's where the presents are hidden by every parent, ever. We didn't find the presents, we did find a photo of his mom (a nice woman, but a very very large woman) sprawled across something with his dad (whom had one good eye and another...not so good eye) 'holding onto' her from behind. Well, you could see his head, his arm and part of a leg, so we assumed it was him.

His parents were nice people, I mean no disrespect, but cripes... Gave up looking after that surprise. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to find one of those oversized q-tips and jab it into the skull a few times.

I have had similar experiences of the 'cult mentality' with a friend using a Macbook. I have a little media server that sits in the entertainment center called 'TheDen'. That is how it is seen on the network. My laptops (Ubuntu, Vista 32bit, XP 32bit) see it, and the desktop sees it (Win7 64bit). No issues browsing, copying, or streaming. Said friend with the Macbook could not see it. I have no clue how a OS X views/browses things on a local network. I tried several things from his laptop (which was mostly blind fumbling on my part) and did not know how to tell OS X where it sat. He did not know either. Somehow though, this was the fault of 'faulty PC technology' that he didn't trust and was the sole reason he couldn't see the shares. It doesn't matter how good the OS may be, if you don't know how to use it, "just works" doesn't mean a thing.

I figured, what the hell, give it a spin. Tuesday I sat down and installed Windows 7 64bit on my desktop machine. The install took maybe a few mouse clicks, some typing, and thirty minutes to complete. On boot it recognized pretty much everything in the system save for the sound card (Curse you Creative Labs and your poor excuse for drivers). It even recognized my HP Printer when I accidently turned it on, installed the drivers, and non of the HP bloat. It recognized the Killer NIC card in the machine as well and that Razer gaming mouse. Came up quick and clean. It ran, in my opinion as this is a personal anecdote, just as fast as if I had freshly installed XP.

I was able to install my regular software (a bunch of games, some vista capable burning software, a few image editing tools) with no hassles what so ever. The games ran as well as they did on my XP machine.

Things I did not like. Certain things are not properly named. There are two 'Device Manager' links. One is the easy to recognize one from the My Computer right-click properties, which brings up the panel as it would in XP. The other I believe sits in the Control Panel and presents a very odd list of 'external devices' (think keyboard, printer, mouse, etc) that was not what I was expecting. If waiting on a slow task initialized from another program (clicking on the downloaded file in the firefox download manager for example), it will gray out the initializing task while it waits for a response from you or the software. What is this 'passcode' it uses for home networking? These are the ones that immediately come to mind.

It has only been a few days and most of my time has been spent playing games, surfing the net or watching a movie (common user operations?), so I can not say for sure how fast/reliable it will be. For now, I am cautiously optimistic about it's behavior and pace.

Side note, this is the first time I didn't have to preload some special drivers for it to recognize my hardware to do a 64bit install of an OS.

My Linux box runs more/better games than any PC, it's called a PS3. Go to Gamestop and look at the PC section (which looks like a WoW section, but it's really for all PC games) and then look at the PS3 section. Then consider that WoW plays on Mac. Crysis was the last PC-exclusive triple-A title and it was released a couple years ago and it flopped. People always get bad karma for saying this, but it's now official: PC gaming is dead. There are two major players left, Blizzard and Popcap, and they both play on Mac. Buy a PS3, buy a Wii - but don't let Microsoft delude you into believing you must be their slave to game any longer. It's no different than all the fucks who say "I hate Wal-mart and everything they do to the economy, but where else can I grocery shop while I get my tires changed?" Who cares if the answer is nowhere? MAKE SACRIFICES FOR YOUR IDEALS. Disliking Wal-Mart and Microsoft doesn't make you a better person, boycotting them does.

Thank you for you anecdotal evidence. Your call to Aiokit's is important and a representative will be with you shortly to address your poorly though out over generalization that PC gaming is dead.

I have a PS3, it sits mostly unused. The machine itself feels bulky and many of the games I can also get on the competing systems. Usually cheaper I've noticed. I didn't get the console (PS3) to serve as a linux/windows/amiga proxy, I got it to play games. Which it does, but not with as great of selection as I had hoped. I have a Wii, it sees as much action as the XBox360. PC games for me have included the new Dawn of War, C&C Red Alert 3, World In Conflict, FEAR 2, King's Bounty, Audio Surf, WoW, EQ2, Luna beta test and more titles but since I am not at home I can only remember the ones I've played recently. All I see in your above post is a lil mouth foaming and ranting. WoW plays on a mac, I know this. Who would have thought that one of the most popular games in America would go cross platform, I mean, it only makes sense. There are several games which are not very popular which are not published on any system outside of a windows box. In case you wish to address the "But you can run bootcamp for XP!" issue, please refer to another post I have made in this exact thread as I don't wish to repeat it.

Again, your anecdotal evidence is greatly appreciated and if you would please hold on the line; I will take it into consideration and give it the same courtesy and thought any poorly generalized rant deserves.
