I think the whole 'Goddesses war' has something to do with Washuu, and 2 other Goddesses, whose names I can't remember, one of which had it out for Washuu for some reason.
But this is probably wrong in some aspects...Try some Anipike links...Some of them might be useful.
In my opinion, the appalling numbers associated with the elections have a few factors that drive people away from the ballots.
One is that we are only truly exposed to two choices and this is like asking a large part of the population to choose from the lesser of two evils. Sure, if you do some looking about, then you'll find the rest of them, but these other, smaller parties should have just as much coverage and chance as the dichotomy that takes over the news, radio, and TV. But money rules popularity...
Another is that we aren't really brought up to vote. I don't remember ever being told about it in school after about 6th grade, and this is just depressing. Since it isn't embedded in our consciousness we don't see it as a major part of our lives. It seems that the schools are afraid to teach about this for fear of parents having the same reaction as if the teachers were manipulating kids into certain political views.
People have to get off their asses, actually learn something, and go vote based on that information. Or stop complaining about it, because by not voting, they are simply not helping their choice win.
I didn't mean just processing graphics, a la playing Quake...I meant as in creating them. Maybe I phrased it wrong, but I didn't mean number crunching was a bad thing, just that computers with that much power have the possibility to also be used for different things.
Do 'they' ever do anything useful with these things? It's fun drooling, but I personally think something with this much power would be well-suited to intense graphics work or something equally resource-consuming. So far all i've heard is done withsupercomputers is number-crunching.
Wasn't the whole idea behind Napster, at the beginning at least, *free* trade of music? If they do this, they'll be tossing all that they seem to stand for, and becoming as much of a corporate whore as the millionaire bands who are against them. And the users will realize that...Or will just be too cheap to pay.
Playstation 2 would be nice...It *is* backwards-compatible, ne?
Portable MP3 player and plenty of space for music. And batteries. Oodles of batteries.
My own CD-RW
One of those Cryo-cooled computers, 30-some gig drive, Athlon chip...Dual-booting WinNT and BeOS...And a copy of The Sims, Adobe Photoshop, Dreamweaver, and Corel Painter.
Anime!
The damn computer books I can never afford.
A domain name and hosting.
I'd be a happy girlie with any *one* of these, though.
I don't think it's that much of a travesty...After all, some of us can't afford to buy the latest import of everything on DVD...This is serving the purpose of showing people that it *isn't* just tentacle porn and violence. Gundam is violent but has an extensive and pretty interesting plot...And Tenchi is like an animated 3rd Rock in some senses. It's about one of the best series to introduce people to anime IMHO.
And you want to talk about hacked up, just find out what they did to Card Captor Sakura for WB...It's been edited so it will appeal more to boys than girls by making the lead character into a co-lead, and the first eight eps were cut out to strengthen this. As if there aren't enough cartoons geared to boys out there already.
I personally would love to see CN air Lain in it's subbed glory, just to make people question their sanity and get head-explody.
As an artist who may want to work in 2d animation sometime, I am restraining the urge to mail nastybad letters. This is something that is going to put a lot of people out of jobs if it becomes a widespread idea...Devaluing hand-drawn art in favor of CG is pretty damn stupid. They're different art forms. One is not better or worse except in personal opinions, simply different.
Fox just had bad luck with their tries at it, and is throwing in the towel, seemingly placing the blame of the whole thing not on the quality of their stuff, but on what they feel will attract viewers.
The little DBZ goons drive me insane too, but think about it. Would you rather be watching crappy tenth-gen copies of the good stuff? Or be able to get it dubbed, subbed and raw on DVD, and either of the former two on VHS? Makes the good stuff more accessable if people are demanding it.
The oil companies make tons of money...Their research is pretty much half hearted because a cheaper equivalent to gasoline won't get them as much money.
It's about time someone recognized that the younger generations aren't a bunch of stoners and trend-hounds. *And* it's about time that they figured out that our brains aren't in our asses because we're young. Older may be wiser, but a younger mind is more flexible, more open to new ideas, and closer to those new ideas. Ever see a forty-something try to figure out a computer with no prior knowledge? My mom thinks she has to be on AOL when she scans pictures. And Gods forbid anything doesn't work for her..But my lil brother was learning HTML within a month of our getting the comp, and he's 12. You *can't* teach an old dog new tricks, with some exceptions of course.
Those older people who aren't already into technology are afraid of it. But the younger people are born into it. They don't remember anything else.
Kinda funny how most other areas of life and society, girls are raving for equality, myself included. But I personally would rather be seen as a bit geeky, and also be seen as intelligent, not to have my information or viewpoints discredited because I'm a girl and am therefore assumed to not know a damn thing about technology. I know I'm not the greatest, but I'm learning.
Girls might also be a little weird about it threatening their 'girlness'. Like guys they like or female friends might think them less 'girl' because of their Linux obsession or skill with HTML. Sounds weird, but it happens to guys all the time, when they like art, or don't show an interest in sports, or something equally silly.
I also agree...I wish the movie had gotten a better response here in theaters. From what I saw, the only ad for it was in a backwater little theater in the middle of South Jersey, where anime is confined to being 'those naked cartoons with big eyes', and an artsy little place in Philly where you have to part of the crowd to know what's playing.
Philly's a pretty tech-friendly place, especially for college kids, what with Drexel and it engineering school, and stuff like that. Not to mention SAP's right around the corner.
Well...I read somewhere that the sci-fi writers of today inspire/prophesy the future...Guess this is another bit of proof. It's strange how a writer's vision of the future could be so right. Gibson's books told of a city spread across the East Coast of the US, and I can see it happening. There's very little distinction between Philly, its suburbs, and the smaller cities nearby the suburbs. Most of it looks the same.
And one could only wish for something like the Awakening...Though that does seem to be happening on a smaller and less flamboyant scale with all the Neo-Pagan religions and people becoming more accepting of mysticism in both their own and other religions. The Awakening of minds, maybe.
As for huge corps, I've said it before. The AOL/Time Warner thing is worse than people think, because they now control an enormous chunk of the media, and through that what we are fed by said media. The company can make policies bending whatever news they control to benefit their interests...Choose which bands or movies get more advertising...etc. I know it sounds paranoid, but Big Brother's not so much in the gov't anymore, but in commerce.
I agree about the not paying bit..Artists have to eat, pay rent or mortgage, and get crazy bills like all of us. But I'd love to know how much of this money we shell out for those 18-buck cd's actually gets to the artist...I am guilty as well, of using Napster. I have a decent collection...And, unlike most people, I do sincerely plan to buy what I can from the artists I've heard. They deserve the money.
No, Napster is no more a good guy than Metallica (ugh) or anyone else that's suing them, but they are bringing many valid questions up that no one really truly thought about til now. If no stink had been made over this stuff, then we'd never have had a second thought.
As an artist, I understand the importance of a copyright. I don't want a company to pay me once for something I worked on for days, and use it on everything they can to make ten times the amount they paid me. But this is ridiculous. Companies and associations shouldn't become the keepers of this argument. The initial creator(s) should be the ones with the final say. The associations were made to help the creators with issues regarding copyrights, not to decide for them.
I also don't see what the problem would be if the one copying movies/music/whatever is not making money off of this exchange. Copies are ok, but I personally would much rather have the actual tape or video, and if a friend makes a copy of something for me, I see it as a preview until I can afford to go buy the actual thing. Much better quality, and at least a little of the money gets to the people who deserve it. The ones who worked on the creation of it.
Lastly, the MPAA need to calm the heck down. They see a new technology they don't understand, and panic because all these younger people do understand, and are taking advantage of it.
This whole thing proves that whoever decided to do this should get their proctologist to find their head. You just don't start a fire near a place with a radioactive history, let alone let it get out of control...
The people trying to stop the trade of mp3's are going to have about as much luck as someone trying to save the Titanic with a bucket brigade. It's such a huge thing that apart from Nazi-like tactics, it won't even be dented.
Part of me doesn't understand the war, because I have never seen or even heard of anyone going out and downloading an entire album of songs just so they could avoid paying for it. I myself download only music that I can't find, things that are much too rare or obscure to go buy at the nearest used CD store, or things I've been wary of buying because of mixed reviews. One or two songs to judge the album by.
The record companies shouldn't be the ones complaining. They're not going to lose out, because there's no way they can with the kind of money they rake in. It's kind of sad, because the real losers in the war are the artists themselves. But people might feel better about buying CD's instead of pirating music if they didn't cost 20 bucks a pop. I know I would.

This surprises people? It's MIR!
Let's see...With no price limit...

That's a thought...If there are binary stars, could there be binary black holes?
I wonder what this is going to do for the online porn industry....
Does this mean I can find a sysadmin and give him/her punches? Or is that only birthdays?

Now to get Angel Sanctuary translated here...

A band called Mr. Bungle, led by Faith No More's frontman, has already done this...Ass-kicking remake of the music in Super Mario Bros.
