  1. Curvature? on Universe's Curvature Measured? · · Score: 1

So this solves the age old question: The universe has curvature, and is indeed quite female.

  2. Catch 22 on COPA Worse Than Censorware? · · Score: 1

Either way, people will be screwed over. It's just a question of the lesser evil. Use censorware that'll not only close off "Big Breasts" but also "Breast Cancer Awareness"...Or let the gov't control things, and have things they don't like, or might possibly make us think, censored.

  3. Speaking of Graphics Stuff... on Photogenics 4.5 Beta For Linux Released · · Score: 1

This is a good thing simply because there aren't enough choices for a Linux user in the way of graphics programs. That was and still is the reason why I'm not running Linux. Macromedia and Adobe should get off their butts and start at least trying to make versions of their software for Linux instead of updating .2 of a version because they made new brushes...

  4. Small vs. Big on Talk Things Over With Richard M. Stallman · · Score: 1

Do you think that open sourcing and free software will become the domain of large, popular companies, or remain a mainstay for smaller, more selectively-targeted ones? And which do you think will be more advantageous for the movement itself?

As of now, I think the open source movement is a strike back at the huge corps, but with the popularity it is having now, it has the slight but existing potential of becoming the same. Do you feel this will cause problems with the established advantages of open source?

  5. Cynicism... on New Cross Platform Alternative To DirectX · · Score: 1

I don't think this'll get very far, because it may mean a drop in money going to the companies that make the things that need to be cross-platform. Instead of buying however many different versions of something for a multi-platform network or household, people will be able to use the same one, and this'll cut into the profits of the software makers. So it sounds good to the buyers, but the companies will probably do what they can to circumvent this.

  6. Useful.. on Solar Cells For Laptops? · · Score: 1

Why didn't anyone think of this before? Solar cells also work with fluorescent lighting, making it even more useful....Kind of a no-brainer actually.

  7. Tim Allen Syndrome on Overclocking is a Counterculture · · Score: 1

I have to say that most of the 'more power' thing seems a whole lot like male aggression put in a different avenue...I also have to say I've felt it myself, the need to own even a used Cray or similar machine for the sheer intimidation value of it. Just keep in mind that you do have issues if you begin grunting as a new form of communication while talking about it....

  8. Hypocrisy.. on CFP 2000 Wrapup · · Score: 1

People have no idea what the hell they want anymore...They want information to be free, but at the same time whine about privacy being ignored. Make up your minds before yelling about things, people.

  9. Chickclickers...I don't think so. on The Rise Of The Chickclickers · · Score: 1

The majority of the sites out there for girls/women are just as inane as women's magazines. They may be branching out a bit, but are still largely based around makeup, fashion, the home, and relationships. I have yet to see more than a very few sites (if any) for women devoted to gaming, programming, comics, or web design, all things I'd love to see. And the term 'chickclicker' is pretty damn offensive, making me think of my sister typing 'a/s/l' in an AOL chat room (in all caps) and looking at my Unix manual or IRC with a vacant stare.

  10. Re:Passed Over on The Rise Of The Chickclickers · · Score: 1

Witch? Troll was a bit better, or if you feel the need to differentiate, trollop. Considering that people, both female and male, refer to themselves as witches as a religious choice, that word doesn't really apply here...

  11. Pretty freakish. on Feeding Through Nutrient Patches · · Score: 2

Very scary if you think about it. Just don't let Microsoft have any place in the making or it'll start creating strychnine by accident when it crashes....Instead of the Blue Screen of Death, it'll be the Blue-Cyanotic Face of Death.

  12. My Two Cents on Suck On Skins And UI · · Score: 1

People are more comfortable with an environment they create themselves...I'm an artist and visually inclined, so the option to customize my stuff is something I enjoy. Like making my own little space there.

Winamp, I think, is something that really lends itself to skins because the default is so...Icky. QuickTime and Nutscrape don't really need skins, but then again, I haven't used them. Also, where in this argument do things like Litestep and Nextstep fall? Things that change everything about your computer?

  13. It is worse than anyone thinks.... on AOL + Time-Warner Worse Than Microsoft? · · Score: 3

Think about this...Microsoft is simply a monopoly upon the computer industry. Yes, they crush small companies with evil glee, and would steal ideas from Billy Gates's own grandma, but this AOL/Warner thing is much deeper. Time Warner controls a huge chunk of the entertainment industry. Chances are that that movie you saw, CD you bought, or TV show you laughed at last night are all affiliated with Time Warner in some way. And entertainment is an easy way to manipulate people into buying things, liking certain things, people or companies, and even living a certain way. People listen to music and watch movies and match that with their lifestyle, unconsciously most of the time. And now, thanks to this wonderful merger, AOL has their greasy 'You've Got Mail' tentacles subtly in our favorite shows, music, etc... They can decide what they want us to listen to and watch, and what we shouldn't.

  14. Hiking...? on Linux Beer Hike 2000 · · Score: 1

Doesn't sound...possible. A Linux beer LAN party, yes. A Linux beer poker night, maybe. A Linux beer-keg night complete with strippers wearing Tux panties and a couple of dozen coffeepots for the aftermath, most definitely. But I've never seen a hacker/geek do any more exercise than is neccessary to get around in life, let alone for fun...

  15. Risking life and limb for 40 million? on Getaway to Club Mir · · Score: 1

  16. Not Penguins....Pagans on Merry Christmas Everyone · · Score: 1

But penguins are damned cute anyway...And they're the Linux mascot, therefore they can do whatever they want. Blessed Be from me too. :)

  17. Neat!! on Mandrake 7.0-Beta Ready for Download · · Score: 1

I heard Mandrake's on of the most trouble-free to install...Nifty! Now I can go through with my plan to see if my mom will notice a switch from Win98 to Linux.

  18. You can't... on Planet Gattaca · · Score: 1

There is no leaving religion out of science because the two are so deeply intertwined in our minds...Science is the study of the physical as religion is the study of the non-physical. I'm not trying to start a flamewar, just to show a different side of the coin here. To me this isn't nearly as bad as what the Christian Right make it out to be, but it certainly IS scary. Who says that a few scientists won't master the fundamentals enough to create viable life? And life doesn't always mean large organisms. Viruses can easily be created, or tailor made if we know enough. But as great good can be done with this knowledge as well. We humans as a race should learn caution with what we tamper with...But not stop altogether.

  19. The processor race is getting ridiculous... on News on Pentium IV · · Score: 1

The new lines of processors focus WAY too much on the actual speed of the thing, mainly because that's the first (and sometimes only) thing people look at when they buy a computer..."Never mind that it only has a 33mhz bus, it's a 750mhz processor!"...The creators should focus on reducing power consumption, upping the bus, or making other parts more efficient.
