If you really, really wanted to save the polar ice caps, you'd create a time machine and travel back..say, 19,000 years ago. Back when the polar ice cap extended down into what is modern day Illinois.
Which predates SUVs and industrialization by around...19,000 years or so.
Oh, and a few inches (or feet) of ocean won't bother me. I have no beach property, nor do I intend to. Last I checked, I'm about 950 feet above sea level..
From the FA:
"While the break-up will have no direct impact on sea level because the ice is floating"....
So what? It hasn't been there forever. See, there's a natural progression on the planet. Warm. Cold. Warm. Cold. It's warming up, BFD.
Now, I'm gunna drive my SUV 65 miles to work tomorrow and feel ok about it.
While you'll probably get +5 funny, your kids will one day give you -1 troll, my friend.
They can't kill it, but they can lead it in a cumbersome fashion, with enormously slow progress and giant trolls fighting within the community. People might have to fork the code in this crazy scenario in order to really secure OO.org. But from a MS perspective, to play the hand of the nice boy while creating havoc with the code just might make enough sense to put out those billions. Then SUN would have to pull a Yahoo: "we won't go because it's Microsoft", and the stockmarket will not take that lightly.
"Sun may have some current research that will produce valuable results down the road."
My feelings exactly. I feel that SUN, like PALM had with the PRE, may have something on their hands. I have no info besides the history of a company that has been so innovative and also embracing of FOSS (which shows they understand the new landscape). All that brainpower inside the company is not dead, so I think they just might have something up their sleeves.
My fears is that MS may buy SUN. At these prices, it's pocket change for them. And they probably do not love the fact that OpenOffice, VirtaulBox, Java, OpenSolaris, Netbeans, and a host of other things are open source and widely adopted. Despite all people that simply _detest_ java or openoffice, they probably hurt deeply microsoft.
Wouldn't it be much much easier to Embrace Enhance Exchange if OpenOffice were in the hands of microsoft? That's what worries me.
Oh well, sorry. I did it with good intentions, but it's spam, I guess. I was thinking: provided someone actually joins dropbox, they would be actually getting more space. Oh well, I guess I deserve the troll mod; but if anyone joins it and uses it, you know what? Then I just might have done someone a favor. This is not zero-sum. And I do believe that the best solution here is virtualization with a dropbox synch... so despite the spam, for which I apologize, that's really my opinion.
The problem with AT&T verizon and these companies is that they are denying, or trying to deny, what they really are: DUMB FUCKING PIPES.
They see no glamourous future for them if they are DUMB FUCKING PIPES.
But that is exactly what they should be striving for. People will jailbreak, people will fork android, hacker will have PALM PRE by the balls in no time. The dumb pipes should stop trying to charge for music or other "enhanced experience" bullshit and think and act like WALL-MART. We are cheap; we are huge; we are everywhere; and you can't beat us, because we are some FUCKING CHEAP DUMB PIPES, and proud of it.
Listen here boy, I'll let you go this one time, but don't kid around with this anymore. CNN is just as stupid as FOXN, but it tries to pose as The Economist.
"The Apple tax is the lack of variety."
Precisely. Why oh why does a 17incher have to be more expensive than a 13"? That's just an arbitrary decision, with no real reason behind it. Ok, a 1920x1200 display may make it more expensive, but that's just it. In fact, the additional size actually should lower costs, not raise them.
For instance, I'm into scientific computation and I want a USD2000 graphics card. Even the mac pro does not offer it.
It is sad that Apple really is incapable of seeing itself as mainstream. But the netbooks are sweeping from below, and reality will set in, for better or worse.

OMG!!! I'm off to the oceans!!! Otherwise boring day *sight*

You could also increase the number of pirates.

How do you know that's true if you're not reading the official North Kolea Blog?
GO KOLEA!
There.

Yes, you can, through dropbox.
And you'll get even more space if you use a referral code like this.
You can also use dropbox to backup a virtualbox machine to the web and keep it in synch with other machines.Works beautifully.
Mine did.
not guilty!
In related news, his blog is complete utter nonsense.
Actually, google is playing hardball with tmobile: "A Google spokesperson tells Ars, "We inadvertently unpublished the applications for all carriers, and today we have corrected the problem so that all Android Market users outside the T-Mobile US network will now have access to the applications. We have notified the affected developers."
not in Easter Island
I know you are a script, but that was interesting.
Now that there's skype for the iPhone, I'm absolutely sure that AT&T is going to find a way to charge for long-distance email.

Fuck! This just in! LINUX BUYS MICROSOFT! Wants to Incorporate Vista Tech Into New Version!
Yeah, like you get that from the networks or CNN.

My god, Einstein finally got himself a successor.
