While this is obviously bad news, I'm not worried. FreeBSD still beats Linux easily.
I like to use a system that feels like it is a cohesive whole, and not a patchwork of often incompatible packages. It is the little details that make the difference. Something like better written manpages might not make that much of a difference to a clueless newbie, but when you get to know the system they do make a difference. Man pages are just one example though... FreeBSD as a whole system (not just a kernel like linux) has an organized, well-though out design, as opposed to the messed up patchwork that is (Debian|Redhat|Suse|whatever) Linux.
A cathedral will always be more beautiful and well-engineered than a bazaar. Even linux peasants should be able to figure that out.

Yeah, my receive data light has been blinking nonstop too.
I'm on a small home network with a couple of other people so at first I thought someone had left one of those annoying "Gnutella" programs running (which have similar effects to a DoS).
But then after reading about this virus I realized that it was it that was doing all this. It's amazing! I didn't realize how much damage a single 'doze virus could do!
If you accept anyone else's code contribution to your project it is no longer 100% your code, and therefore you will not be able to license it under other terms without permission from everyone who has ever contributed code to your project.
The only alternative I see is having code contributers sign a statement that says all their code contributions are your property.
NPR is 50% paid for by the government. The other 50% come from corporate and individual donations.
And anyone who listened to NPR during the presidential campaign could hear that they were in no way avoiding political interests. I think a more appropriate name for the network during this time would be "Al Gore For President Public Radio." Not that I like Bush, in fact, I hate him, but the one-sideness was ridiculous.
Has PG considered making bound "dead tree" versions of their books available on their web site for purchase? This seems like a good way to make money, since there are many people who prefer to read a paper version rather than a computer screen.
Write a filter that automatically moves everything that does not have your email address in the To: or CC: line to a folder called "Junk" -- 99.9% of spammers will never put your email address in To: and CC: (They use bcc I guess).
Of course there are some legitimate mailing lists that will also get redirected to your Junk folder by this, so you may want to create a filter to have those mailing lists go back into your Inbox.
A good use for gopher would be for storing books, historical documents, official documents (like laws), and stuff like that. These don't need hyperlinks but could use the "menus" in gopher for like tables of contents and that sort of thing.
Easier said than done.. just the differences between the same version of IE on the Mac and Windows are incredible. As a web developer I usually test the pages on Netscape on Windows and Mac and IE on Windows and Mac. IE is especially difficult because every version displays things differently.
I just don't have the time or patience to test "oddball" platforms like WebTV, Lynx, Konquerer, etc.
Normally, I'd agree with you: that it is stealing and he should pay the price for it. But in the case of MP3s I think a vast majority of people KNOW they are stealing but don't feel bad about it.
It is a known fact that the record companies charge artificially high prices for music, and the artist sees very very little of this money. People who steal from the rich (record companies) and give to the poor (college students who enjoy music) are seen as modern day "Robin Hood"s and are considered heros, just like the legendary person.
So the solution is to steal from record companies and maybe even put them out of business some day (haha ok I'm just dreaming here). At the same time we should support artists who sell their music directly over the internet, and pay for their work. Even some record companies might be worth supporting-- those who are known to give a substantial amount of the profits back to the artist.
I actually bought The Sims for myself (I thought I'd try something different for a change). I played it most of the way through once -- got promoted in my job several times, got married, and had a baby. I was mainly interested in trying out different things and seeing what happened. After playing the game a few days, I'd seen just about all there is too see, so I deleted it. (When you have a baby you don't even get to see your characters having sex!! wtf!)
It's true, most of the "SimX" games are 'play once, delete', but this one was probably the worst since it is boring most of the time.
Talking on the phone isn't any more distracting than listening to the car radio, but I don't see any movements to ban radios. It is only a matter of time before this "ban phones" fad blows over.
I find it funny that these people who are so worried about cell phone users being distracted spend so much time looking at what other people are doing in their cars!! They should take their own advice and keep their eyes on the road.
I have the same G400 and it worked with Windows 2000. On my machine, Windows 2000 DID freeze up, but it was due to the Aureal sound card driver, not the Matrox one.
It's not running very well. It is acting as though it is overloaded... on some pages I have to hit reload about 20 times to get the page to load without errors!! I think they need to buy some more servers... or just go back to BSD.
Actually it has trouble with a lot of games. It seems that the games check to see what version of Windows you are using or something, and some refuse to even start. I was using Win2k, but have now moved to Windows ME... which works with every piece of software I've run so far.. (Okay, I admit, the main reason I run Windows is for game-playing:)
How can these people copyright other people's usenet posts??? It just doesn't seem fair to me.. Imagine the outrage if Slashdot took people's posts and made a book of them!! Oops that already happened.
Anyway, this seems to on the borderline of legality to me. I sure wouldn't want my posts published without my permission. fortunately we have x-no-archive on Usenet.
Very noble. It must piss you off to know that most people vote based on who is the most handsome or who has the nicest smile. Pathetic, but true.
I agree with you on Dole. Actually he's been on Comedy Central's "Daily Show" during the coverage of the conventions and he has a great sense of humor. Had he used more humor in his run for president I think he would have been much more successful.
He also had an "int main" but failed to return a value. Not really a program-crashing bug but it will generate a warning.
Note that the Zope license is incompatible with the GPL. Something to consider before you start using it.

I think .mil would be even worse...

It comes with both.
This is a piece of crap. It still looks like the microsoft site. THe original freshmeat was the best.

On Solaris there is a utility called dos2unix that will strip the linefeeds too.

No, they are not even close to being the same.
