Wearable computers?? Haha Get a life!

  2. Differences between releases on FreeBSD Updated · · Score: 1

    Cool, thanks.

  3. An OPINION in an article *GASP* on RIO, MP3 Under Attack in Wall Street Journal · · Score: 1

Odd that no one attacks CmdrTaco when he says his opinion, but everyone jumps all over sengan when he even hints at anything!! I think those who claim that "opinions" don't belong on a news site are just mad because the opinion stated is not THEIR opinion!

Is this automatically enabled, or is it something I have to add to /etc/fstab? As I recall, softupdates also had some kind of weird license. I have two machines running 2.2-stable but am thinking of upgrading.

Man, I wish I were the lucky guy to get the mp3.com domain name! Maybe I should get a head start by registering mp6.com or something :)

What about that "newhoo" site. Why aren't they suing them? (I think it is owned by Netscape aka AOL) Maybe they don't care as much about sites that not many people visit.

  10. let's hope it includes GPL'd source.. on Creative Labs Seeking Linux Coder · · Score: 1

I wouldn't consider binary-only drivers to be a "big win." If anything it would be a "big loss" for linux and the free software movement in general. Maybe it is appealing to the people who are afraid to mention the "Freedom" part of free software to their bosses, but I don't like it. I'll take an GPL'd driver of inferior quality over a binary driver of superior quality any day.

  11. disable their machine before they cause damage on Cyber Vigilantes · · Score: 1

I've had these kiddies scanning my machines (I'm sure we all have) and it is sometimes interesting to do the same to them. Most of the time their machines are wide open, and even if you can't break in, you can do a lot of annoying things because they don't really know enough to figure out what is going on!

  12. Reasonable price for a CD on The Music Industry and the MP3 · · Score: 1

This is true for today's music cds, but the ones Jon was talking about that you can customize.. I think their prices aren't nearly as bad, because most CDs today sell with one or two good songs and ten bad ones. Using this new method you could pack your custom CDs with good songs, and it would be worth more (to me, anyway) than a single-artist cd with a few good songs and many bad songs.

  13. No Subject Given on Quake3 Arena on Linux · · Score: 1

Does Quake 3 have anything new that might contribute to "strategy" ? For example, new defensive techniques or weapons. I've been spoiled by Heretic 2 :)

  14. Sorry, I have to disagree. on Linux and GNU at their best · · Score: 1
Sorry folks, but the GNU utilities are the worst set of utilities out there. What is all this -- and - crap?? Why do we need two options that do the same thing? Why are half the manual pages missing? "Read the info page instead" aka Our programs are too bloated to use normal documentation methods. Why does it seem that everyday programs like "tar" have been made deliberately difficult to use? I sure don't know. Linux is my favorite OS, but we are NEVER going to attract newbies until we get our basic tool set cleaned up!

I suggest proponents of "creeping featurism" read Gancarz's "The Unix Philosophy" -- and someone send the FSF a copy while you're at it ;)

  15. BSD on Linux and GNU at their best · · Score: 1

The BSD utilities ARE the Gnu utilities. At least on the newer freebsd systems this is true.

They don't choose a target and work on it, they scan huge sections of the internet (with nmap, expect, etc.) looking for weak systems and crack them. That is why the cracked sites are always some obscure site.

Of course, starwars.com is an exception to this, but in general, that's why they don't crack sites like KKK.

You only need to edit /etc if you are re-configuring the system. Why would a newbie be re-configuring the system? You don't see Windows newbies using 'regedit.exe' on Windows, and you won't see linux newbies editing /etc. The system is only complex if the user wants to do more advanced things than simply 'browsing the web' -- no matter what OS they are using.
