In the context of the browser VBScript executes with the same permissions as JavaScript... PERIOD!

You cant create a file system object using a VBScript in a browser. It takes more than most people think to damage a machine with just VB/JavaScript. You have to use "social" engieering more than anything and trick people more than you cna directly harm their systems.. think about it

Why don't you show me some VBScript runs from a web page that can do something malicious. Ill gladly run it on my machine and click NO if its an ActiveX object and simply laugh at anything else since it simply WONT work in the browser.

Outlook has totally different access privileges why do you think all of these worms are spread. Do you know the mayhem that would be caused if ever IE browser was exploitable via VBScript?

Stop and think before trashing something for an unfounded reason.

If a company uses another companies trademark the owner HAS to defend it. If they don't the name becomes diluted and they no longer really have it.

The whole point to marketing is that you get something burned into someones brain. Once it is there you have them.

When you heard Light Saber before today the first thing that entered your mind was a Star Wars Light Sabre most likely.

In the marketing world, and we know what good marketing can do *cough MS* *cough MS*, you live and die by your brand recognition.

A lot of /.ers praise MS for their awesome marketing but never really understand some basic concepts of marketing.

I definitely think that all the money Lucas spent building up Star Wars and Light Sabre represent a lot of marketing and money. He gained the brand recognition. He deserves a legal way to defend all of the investment in mindshare. A lot of that mindshare was won through really good filmmaking and memorable marketing. Does he not deserve to defend that?

I see a lot of facetious jokes about "I hope a surgeon doesnt mix up his Light Sabres". That is plainly an asanine and not very well thought joke to make.

It is all about dilution of the trademark and not getting any negative press and thus actually damaging the trademark and investment!

    Sorry,

I think your wrong about ms word(read: office) being scriptable.

Scripting applications is the way it will be for some time. It has ultra convenience for power users and there are so many business uses for it so that is why it is there.

Perhaps there needs to be a way to plug in other scripting langauges but no don't take away the scriptability of the applications.

I am an author for an unnamed company and they use word templates and a ton of VBA so that you can easily format text for documents that will be printed en masse. And you know what it is nice! No COM components or messy overhead. Just a quick vba installation of a Macro. The default setting is to turn macros off from anyhow.

There is a balance and taking an extreme is not always smart. Delphi might be ok for scripting word but dont make it harder for the sake of competition. Its not even competition if you have to make something more difficult to use just so the competition can compete! They arent even competition!

I think maybe something like pythin in word is practical but extending and programmatically controlling word via COM? Ugh! That raises the knowledge barrier to high for most people. Granted most users can give a care about programmability of their document processor it is still handy for customizing and benefits more than it harms IMO.

    Thanks

Mod layout isnt designed to really work with frames since the author "doesnt like them"

It allows you to add footers and headers to a page as well as text before and after a certain tag.

It doesnt matter if the content is produced by PHP, Jsp, Static whatever.. it will still work. IE: It goes after your PHP page, wonder how this works with output buffering tho.. hmmmn?

It ships with a BSD style license.

Meaning basically after all is said and done this can add in a couple of extra things so that you dont have to do so in your code.. In practice this might get a little messy without a well designed and managed project

You can also include Perl scripts for the header/footer. Possibly PHP / Java etc, but im not exactly sure how this works just yet.. Just playing with it

So basically if this fits within your development model or fills the niche it was designed to for you by all means use it. It is just designed to do one thing and do it very well. I think that I could find some uses for it in quite a few situations. Especially text before and after a tag :)

Here in Georgia when it rains heavy people get weird. They will begin by flipping on their hazard lites, while not illegal is incredibly annoying.

Then the next phase of driving paranoia kicks in. Phase two is the truly dangerous phase. People randomly slow down in the fast lane or rapidly change lanes going at a much slower speed than the vehicles behind them causing near immediate stops.

It is down-right distracting to watch a highway full of blinking hazard lights. People start pulling off the road left and right. All people have to do is stay in their lane, maintain a good distance between them and the person in frotn of them and keep going at 45-55. Instead people get panicky and perform these rapid lane changes to get off the road or get to the slow lane that really cause people to get hurt.

    It is crazy.

The whole time im showing her these kind of people and the way they are driving she is laughing at me. She is from up north so shes quite used to doing 50 in a snow storm. She just thought people driving like this was the funniest thing. Oh well
