Do they want common carrier status? Ya know, where they are not responsible for the content (ie kiddie pr0n and the like)
or
Do they want the right to go against net neutrality to push their own services and potentially be on the hook for aiding the distribution of pics and movies?
On March 9, 2010 Nancy Pelosi said we have to pass it to see what's inside. And the 2000 page bill was not put up for 72 hours to allow us to read it before hand as promised by candidate Obama.
What about those who don't want insurance? Those who would rather pay their doctor for services rendered? What about those who's religion prohibits certain coverages and must pay for the coverage of such medications or the possibility of services they will never use? Probably a poor analogy, but it's like being told I have to pay for the all you can eat buffet even though I'm not hungry now.... or making me pay for the all you can eat buffet which contains seafood that I'm allergic to.
It was disconnected until 1973 (or so) when the government required large businesses to offer it. Over the years "large business" was redefined to be 50 or more employees. My employer presently has 49 employees and has no interest in increasing by even one employee... that 50th employee will be an expensive chap.
"anyone with work supplied health care doesn't have to pay this"
.... yeah until your employer figures out it is cheaper for him to drop coverage and pay the penalty. Also, if your employer makes ANY change to your plan as it exists today, you have to go to the government plan.
We DVR everything we watch and skip right over the loud commercials. Now instead of watching commercials, I don't even pay attention to them. The advertisers have shot themselves in the foot. Next thing you know, the TV stations will start playing more commercials per hour. Oh wait they do. 52 minute episodes of Star Trek TOS are pared down to less than 45 minutes now.... AND the TV stations begin the next show with the credits of the previous show in a PIP window. Good for them.
Yeah, the industry will choke itself to death. I quit FM radio years ago b/c I got tired of the screaming car commercials... and all the stations timed their commercials so you couldn't change stations. I started listening to XM, which in turn added commercials to their premium channels. So now I simply listen to music from my mp3 player or audio books on my drive to work.
If everyone did this, the industry would slowly die... and perhaps on their way down, they fix what caused their market to shift away from them. We don't need government oversight b/c the industry will eventually regulate itself even if it kills itself.
Absolutely... I closed mine over a year ago when I got tired of going back into my privacy settings and ratcheting them back down. The final straw for me was the auto tagging in pictures.
With facebook, you are not the customer, you are the product they market to their customers. This is why your privacy settings are undone all the time.
Hate crimes serve to lessen the value of my life since I'm not a member of a minority. A human life is worth as much as any other human, except if that human is a member of a special group. Equal protection anyone?
Is it just me, or does it seem odd that they'd create a plant that has nearly 1 employee per square meter? I don't think even the nazis packed jews in that tightly. Wow...
Don't forget that if you want to watch your favorite team's game too close to home, Directv and Dish will blackout the game thereby forcing you to buy tickets. So cable isn't mecca either. While I'm posting.... I'm so flipping sick of 200 channels the brag about, of which 1/3 are dupes (hd vs sd) and of those we only watch maybe 10. But I can't get the educational channels I want without upgrading to the 300 channel package. Screw the whole thing. Although we still have cable, we are actively watching less and less and the wife and I are talking more and more. Turning off the boob tube is wonderful! It's like we (collectively as a society) have been in a stoned daze for years. I hope the cable companies choke on their plans.
YUP.... I tried to buy music from itunes, got locked out of a song that disappeared from my phone. Got married and enabled "home sharing" only to find that I could install wife's songs on my phone, but they would not play. Switched to android and found that I could not convert the nonencrypted AAC songs into 128kmp3s w/o paying $20 for a converter. So I downloaded the very same songs I'd bought. Bought books from Google books only to find that I have to install a special bloated version of adobe to read the files... which they failed to mention that they we selling me a PDF.
I've all but given up on trying to get things correctly. They make the hurdles just too high.
The other thing that has happened is that they now start the next program while showing the credits for the previous. This overlap allows them to get 2 more commercials in.
And older shows have more episodes per season. Shows in the 60's routinely had 30, 70's 28, 80's 24..... now, a season has 16 and the really good shows have 12... ie Dexter and American Horror. So not only am I paying for 16 minutes of adverts per hour, I'm paying for reruns. We often check the DVR toward the end of the week and find nothing has been recorded (ie reruns this week). Our cable bill is about $65 a month. If it weren't for my wife wanting to just decompress in front of the idiot box, we wouldn't have cable at all.
Say what? The POTUS yesterday went on a rant that accused the Supremes of being activist is they shot down Obamacare. The dittohead/fox news crowd does NOT think this. What I find amazing is the fact that the president is a)so immature as to be upset that someone may strike down a law he really likes, b)does not seem to understand the system of checks and balances we have in the USA.
I fear this too... the local police will ask you to consent to a search now or "downtown". I was once approached by the police when stopped late at night. They wanted to search my car, I declined citing they would need a warrant. They said that could take hours to get. I said I had nothing but time. In the end, they figured out that I was not a bad guy and pointed out that the area was rife with druggies and that I should move along. No harm, no foul. Maybe not so much in the future. Presently, they don't need a warrant signed by a judge, they just need a dog to show probable cause and circumvent the whole system of protection we think we enjoy.
And why do class sizes rise? Because they have coaches who count as teachers who teach ONE class - weight lifting. Because the schools have more administrators than ever who are counted as teachers. The librarian and her assistant is/are counted as teachers. The school nurse is counted as a teacher. The schools tout their student/teacher ratio, but in reality, the ratio is really student/(teacher-15). Why so many administrators? Department of Ed paperwork requirements. No child left behind paperwork. I swear , the "free money" from the federal government is killing them... really a point of diminished returns.
Kids going to school without breakfast because their parent(s) can't afford it? Surely you mean WON"T afford it. The school never follows up on their free/reduced lunch applications - they get more money from federal funding for those kids than they get from the paying students. They have no incentive.
As for the parent(s) who won't afford breakfast or lunch.... those kids seem to have cell phones, buy year books for $130 and wear sneakers which cost as much as a netbook. In the USA, our welfare programs seem to cover the basics so that they can afford the nice extras.
Nonsense.... we don't need the Force, we only the The Spice for intergalactic travel.

Thanks republicans... they say they will repeal it. But the precedent still stands... they can tax you for anything.

I liked Danny Dunn when I was in middle school. They'll be a bit dated, but good never the less.

Chinese people are smaller. If the plant were built in Amerika, they'd need 2.5 square meters per employee.
Is it just me, or does it seem odd that they'd create a plant that has nearly 1 employee per square meter? I don't think even the nazis packed jews in that tightly. Wow...
Hardly... you can't move around in the station at all because of all the Poles in the friggin way.

Making me prove I have a subscription to cable to get hulu is like telling me I have to have a car to ride the city bus.

This would't have anything at all to do with GE would it? Would it? http://gas2.org/2012/02/20/ge-forcing-employees-into-chevy-volts/
