On the other hand, drug possession (or use, for that matter), affects nobody else.
you're trolling.. and I'll bite: possession doesn't hurt anyone. Unless someone else wants what you've got. Or you want to get possession and have way of buying it.
Gay Marriage is illegal - is it wrong? Well, I don't agree with being gay, but I'm not going to force someone to be straight.
Still, There *are* some things that are wrong AND illegal. And because the system is broken and doesn't put away the real criminals, the cops have to take measures to put them away on their own. Honestly, don't you learn anything from american movies?
Serious response here: I gave up on windows ME/2000 and switched to windows flp. gotta pirate it, but it works wonders! (of course, nlite works wonders too)...
what you're talking about is prediction, not correlation. So, correlation is a good starting point for determining causation. But it does not indicate the direction of causation, so you cannot interpret the relationship between those two variables with any sort of validity.
Hence, correlation!=causation, because the link between the two has not been established in any way, shape or form - only the fact that there is a link (which is the correlation).
Some of us actually want things that work properly out of the box.
... it does work right, out of the box. And it continues to work right, after it leaves the box. That is the point of the kill switch - to disable misbehavin' programs. Like the previous post said, the google kill switch doesn't work for user-installed (non-app-store) programs.
People baulk at high version numbers as much as low version numbers.
Eh, SPSS 16 is better than spss 8. Just sayin'... Same with photoshop 6 vs 8. Of course, adobe had to switch to their creative suite naming scheme... so ACROBAT 6 vs 8, or Nero 6 VS 8... or... yeah, I loves the big numbers.
And c'mon, Windows 2000 was a HUGE improvement over 98. Like, 1912 versions better!
2. I rather suspect that the penalty for supplying false information will be comparably stiff to not supplying it at all, which would seem to be sufficient deterrent.
Yes, because that works so well for keeping people from breaking laws.
Instead of them coming out stronger criminals, let's give them a reason to not come back.
Yes, let us start a 3-strikes-and-you're-castrated system. That'll provide incentive, considering the number of men in the penal system.
FWIW, cable isn't available. If it were, I still don't think I'd subscribe. Possibly, but I doubt it.
Yes, no worries, we've got hulu!

McCain invented fire
You know that story .. the one that begins with "In the beginning, there was..."
osx on spec for spec hardware has run perfect for me. better than a mac pro, in fact... since I can open it up and change stuff!
windows flp ftw!

It's not about money.
... you're right. It is about money NOW (for sure) and money LATER (maybe).
C'mon EA ... turn spore into EVE, damnit! You've already turned part of it into warcraft...
nah, that one is free from sony.
yes. canonical does this.
God damn, I thought people in /. would know better...
are you new here?
are you surprised? If you were a CEO, would you choose to make more money, or make marginally less (but still a lot) and have better processes?
... well, money wins.
Corporate culture is such that money is the bottom line. Always. So, if you appeal to that in 99% of CEOs
I've used software that had version numbers like 0.99989389 for years and years only to find it more useful than the alternatives.
Was it WINE? 'cuz they finally reached 1.0.
do you work for canonical?

better than apple's slogan: "Quality is what we tell you it is, bitches!"
you know, it is just your american economy that is tanking. Everywhere else is just reacting to your recession.

ah yes, let us talk about proprietary code. Because clearly, it is just as cut and dried as you make it.
This article is basically a verbose version of the "nuh uh" argument.
