Nothing worse than shortdropping a notebook and killing the hard disk. .. yeah there is.. when the notebook bursts into flames unexpectedly and gives you scars to rival two-face... true story, I read it on teh interwebs, somewhere...
Actually, yes they do. Just like people die of smoking - the smoking doesn't kill them, but the effects of smoking do.
We could look at the dangerous effects of jet lag here... And we can look at a bit of an unconfirmed urban legend here(but also not disproven, I just can't find an original article)...
And we can see the long term effects of jetlag (Thanks to mice... Surprisingly... NOT) here...
How can you say canada gets the epic fail when it comes to technology?
I don't see your logic. We've got some of the best laws (for consumers rights) in the world, we've got freedom of speech and protection from unlawful persecution.
On top of all that, we've got legalized file sharing in the form of a cd levy! (Yes, you americans have it too, but your laws still allow the RIAA to run rampant...) Well, so long as it is paid, there is no criminal basis for non-profit filesharing lawsuits!
Like that brian regan routine about evil kinevil...
Reporter: So, what did you think as you took that fall and broke every bone in your body?
Evil:... Hmm.. y'know, I was thinkin' 'Did I leave the bathroom light on?'... no wait, it was 'Did I turn the iron off... ' No wait! I remember now, I was thinking more like 'AHHHHHHHHH THE PAIN! OH MY... OWWWWW AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH OH NO NOT MY.... AHHHHHHH!'
I guess i should have said that I never got 'disciplined' for poor results after that... up to the point which I left (which was about 3 months later, I found something that had a similar pay structure and I'd be able to make about the same amount of money to support my electronically obsessed lifestyle.)
I had a boss who told us when we started that everything we did at work would be monitored.
I didn't realize the extent of their monitoring! In the contract, it simply said 'all available facilities will be used to monitor employees while working'. I figured they'd check my email once in a while. They read emails, login/logout times, tracked employee positions (cameras in the office! A friend of mine was fired for taking breaks, when he went into his 'final' meeting, they showed him a time lapsed video of himself!) and recorded phone calls.
All this would come up only when they had a problem with your work - If you produced results, they didn't care what you did otherwise, but if you weren't getting sales, they found some other reason why you were doing poorly...
I spent 2 weeks skipping breaks and working through lunch trying to get a big (BIG!) contract and I was asked by my manager to do try to get this contract. I spent the rest of my time trying to make some money in the meantime... and I was brought into the office one day and they presented me with the emails I'd sent to my wife during those two weeks and told me that I was wasting company time. I told them they needed to look at the cameras to see I never left my desk, and to check the phone tapes for the last week to see that I was working hard. Turns out they only saved the conversations for a day or two...
I never got 'disciplined' for poor results after that.
no matter what it comes down to, there are 2 options. 1 - The church that jesus created and led is still on the earth, and only one church is still practicing the way jesus wanted (either catholic or not), or 2 - there are no churches that have the mandate of heaven to lead the people.
Although, the church of the FSM might have it right after all...
"We're not trying to pick the one strategy because we think there will be multiple people who want one for multiple reasons," Gramlich said. ... Damn Straight! I'd be wantin' to have some sort of bio-nuclear-chemical lab on the 'island' so I could grow mutant fish.
I'm not sure how many other people want to do that, but I'm sure they aren't the majority...
whose roots are of similar antiquity to Catholicism ... yes, the roots are the same. But when did they separate? and for what? A difference of opinions? YES!.. on who should be pope. I'd say that one group protested against the other's interpretation of some weird part of the religion. And that makes them protestant, in the true sense of the word (not in the martin-luther/john calvin/take your pick of reformers strain of protestant)
You're also an ignorant baptist... since when can't mormons leave their religion? Scientology shuns the people who leave it, islam kills those who quit islam... mormons... send cookies?
Then theres the fork of what some would call the Edge Christianity such as jehovas witnesses, mormons, etc. Christiandom is separated into 2 branches - catholic (who believe that the line of authority given by jesus was never broken, and they have the mandate of heaven to have a church...
And Protestant, who protest the catholic church and believe that the authority to govern a church was lost, and therefor anyone can start a church (since no one has the right to start a church, everyone has equal rights...)
Anyone professing that Christ is the Savior of the world is christian, so I really don't get your definition of 'edge' christianity - is it simply 'Unpopular but fast growing religions with people who actually practice their religion (However annoying it might be)'?
because really... JWs, Born Agains and Mormons are the only people I know who have a religion and actually practice it. Catholicism seems to be synonymous with 'My grandparents were practicing, but I've never attended mass... ever'
If "a large group of people in the company sincerely care about this aspect of the Google culture"... then this abuse of culture wouldn't be happening.
For 'evil' to proliferate, all it needs is for good people to do nothing to stop it.
Well, I'm glad that google abides by the law here in canada. Clearly their motto of 'do no evil' is region specific; on one hand, I applaud their help in stopping crime, on the other hand, I detest the violation of privacy.
I guess I'm safe so long as my government respects my rights (because google will only go as far as the government seems deem 'right')
And the government of the day is what the people of the country elected to power does it still count when the supreme court chooses your president? (re:2000 election of bush?)
You sound american, so there is a 50% chance that you'd understand that I'm upset about our 'bush'-esque government here in canada...
Well, now that our government is going to try and force ISPs (bell, anyways) to leave packet shaping alone... all we need to do is get some real politicians back into power (none of this minority/conservative crap) and our country will officially rock (again).
Make a cheap car-puter/dvd player for your kids. You could mount it almost anywhere, or even recess it into the dash...
You could set it up for war-driving, wire it into your sound system, add an external drive that you could plug in (and use for transfers)... and if you were really keen, you could use a 3G connection card to triangulate your position as a poor man's GPS.
... or you could set it up and pretend to be a cop...
Not only will it be year of the linux desktop.. but hell will freeze over.
Lets face it, linux users love choice. And since they're more likely than not to be fanboys (c'mon, everyone knows a linux convert is preachy about his newfound OS), then they're probably also fanboys about UI.
Well, since the technology isn't developed, is it really that surprising that we read a story about 'Worlds Fastest' every couple weeks?
Solid State Drives for computers? They aren't really out of beta!
Actually, yes they do.
Just like people die of smoking - the smoking doesn't kill them, but the effects of smoking do.

Evil:
tell him that his .torrent-ing is adversely affecting your social life on WoW. He'll either understand, or not.
If not, just use some DPS and hide behind the couch....
Being an adult geek is one thing - and your peers have generally learned to respect your choice, no matter how they may feel about it...
But on the school yard, especially for 10-14 year olds, "geeks" still get beat up, and tortured by the "jocks" and the popular kids.
it might be the age of the geek-y adult, but it is NOT the age of the geek-kid.
how's it feel to lose your slashdot virginity? not quite as satisfying as you expected, huh?
*private*
Well, private trackers aren't exactly private. They're more difficult to get into, but they're no more private than most of the 'net...
I guess i should have said that I never got 'disciplined' for poor results after that... up to the point which I left (which was about 3 months later, I found something that had a similar pay structure and I'd be able to make about the same amount of money to support my electronically obsessed lifestyle.)

So, how will we confirm our shipping addresses within paypal? I mean, we'll be constantly moving around the ocean...
You're also an ignorant baptist... since when can't mormons leave their religion? Scientology shuns the people who leave it, islam kills those who quit islam... mormons ... send cookies?
wasn't islam marketed as christianity for dummies at the time too?
... suddenly there were rules again.
I mean, judaism was a bunch of rules. Then Christ showed up and said 'Boom! Lookat That! We can get rid of all that complex stuff and just be good!'
Then, Mohammad shows up and says 'Ain't no body playin' nice no-mo... we needs ta get ourself some rules!' and
Sounds a lot like anyone who was religious simply couldn't follow their own rules, and so we kept having reformers show up and making new ones.
OH WAIT... it is still happening today...
