    I'm exporting capitalism and freedom to china. I shop at walmart, for 'made in china' items. This stimulates their economy and encourages capitalism (and freedom). ;)

    A lot of the things google does aren't EVIL ... but aren't good. Think about the help they've given to china in the great firewall, and all the assistance they give to censoring. It shows that they're complying with the government ideas of good and evil, not the rights of the individual.

    In other words... google is going to 'do no evil' ... and evil (in the USA) would be fighting the govn't.

    Your government protects you from things like this. It also protects you from terrorism by violating your privacy, personal rights and freedoms. I wouldn't stand for it, but hey - thats just me.

    What conditions (benefits or handicaps) would you give yourself ... if there was an equal chance that someone else would have those conditions, and you would not?

    When you can answer that - then we can talk about proper governance and the rights of the individual.

    After we've established some individual rights, we can then move to talking about the rights of government.

    But until you understand that greed isn't the answer, we havn't even started to talk.

    As a founding member of the UN, the USA seems to think that it controls the UN - and it acts accordingly!
    It has a VETO and routinely uses it for its advantage - and ignores the UN when it isn't convenient.

    Given their actions in the UN, Why would it acknowledge the WTO? Or even NAFTA... *cough* softwood lumber debate *cough*

    Well, since it seems to be the tinfoil crazy hat people that want to kill these sorts of projects, why don't we pass a law.

    Lets force everyone who obsesses about this sort of health issue to insulate their homes with a layer of tinfoil - it would really be in their best interests (according to their beliefs)...

    I wonder if these people use paypass cards (RFID in credit cards, etc) ... maybe someone should tell them to stay away from those readers too.

    OSX only 'just works' because Apple builds the computers that the OS ships on - If they've got complete vertical control over the supply channel ... then *of course* it will 'just work'. However, trying to get a mac to do anything complicated (or customized) isn't easy at all - and lets not even talk about upgrades!

    So, you may be correct that it 'just works' - but then again, the software on my n95 'just works' as well.

    Since competition only really benefits customers when the competing companies can force each other to become more efficient, and the 'satellite' radio infrastructure is fixed (satellites+ground based repeaters) - then prices can only go *so* low.

    And so the only real way to decrease price is to increase the customer base, I'm surprised it took so long to approve this merger. In so many ways, it is similar to the government sanctioned cable monopolies - building two competing 'satellite' networks would drive costs up, not down.

    C'mon, I thought the (ancedotal) evidence proving(?) that beer is and isn't good for productivity is adequete! It should say that beer, in certain levels, is good for productivity, and in excess ... it is bad. Really, people write papers to prove this?

    This would do a lot of things.
    It would a) keep tabs on anyone who was not american (potential terrorists!)
    b) keep tabs on problem individuals
    c) increase national security, because sex offenders could be tracked (and given poor service when they're trying to access govn't services.

    Not all are good, but not all are bad. Maybe we could just do this for category (c)? ... oh wait, they've tried tracking them. It didn't work. Why would it work on a national level?

    Hm. Well, I'm going to set my linux box to auto-decrypt and join encrypted networks. I won't use it explicitly for joining my neibours wireless access, I'll use it for pen-testing. And if it happens to do something illegal, I can just claim that it wasn't supposed to break the law, it was for something completely legal and I'm not responsible.

    Yeah, and I suppose that sitting in someone else's light, or perhaps walking on their lawn should be criminalized too?

    Yes, we pay for the internet, but if you don't secure your network, and the pedestrian use doesn't impair your surfing experience... no harm, no foul. At least, thats what I think - but I'm still not running the world *sigh*

    CEOs make more than they're worth. Young, entry level workers make a lot less than they're worth. Then again, who decides worth in north america? the market.

    And gen-Y-ers are more tech savvy, so ... it isn't a surprise that they make better tech decisions.

    Canada didn't even TRY to alter its view of the falls; NY used explosives to create a custom effect on their side .. and the view still sucks. Too bad the point wasn't about the view, the point was about the INFRASTRUCTURE.
