I was actually just researching this in my area and found out that this network is slowly making it's way to my house. Right now a lot of the Portland area is covered as shown by this link. Check out the map it's pretty cool.
This guy is not telling the truth. If he would have actually downloaded and installed the reader as he claimed he would have seen the story is in fact true. Yes the parent is in fact correct.
A few comments here. I installed Windows just to verify this. There have been several claims that this is fake. I can verify it is in fact real. Second there is nothing in the Pro version that does text to speach so claiming that that is what that means is flase (unless that is for an upcoming version). The other interesting thing is under their installation notes they have the following text.
"Programmers: If you are a software programmer, you should note that the Adobe Acrobat eBook Reader's security implementation does not allow program debuggers to be executed on the machine while the Adobe Acrobat eBook Reader is running."
1)Maybe because many new computers come with DVD's
2)Many people still dual boot and use their DVD player
3)Many people buy DVD players in anticipation they can use them at some point and are cheap enough to justify this.
4)because they want to......
Anything else ?
Gemstar from what I understand owns almost all the patents on EPG's. Their patents are very hard to get around and there have been many attempts but most companies just end up licensing their EPG. By the way they make alot of their money off of law suits and licensing.
Apparantly this is a line of processors that they are introducing. They are starting out with two. The first one runs at 400 mhz using less than one Watt of power and is targeted for web appliances. The second one is for notebooks and runs at 700 mhz and also uses less than one Watt of power. He said (not sure of his name) it will be targeted for the Windows operating system.
If you follow the link on the story you will see this is a new technique. This is essentially creating twins rather than cloning. Instead of nuclear transfer(used with Dolly the sheep) they take the embryo after it has split into 8 cells and split it into four embryos each with two cells.
