That's the plan, isn't it. Make them illegal for everybody else but let the happy few (read: rich few) live in the grey zone (and allow them to use it at their will).

This used to be called "Big Brother". The problem is that Big Brother is a small bunch of corrupt rich bastards filling their pockets as much as possible as fast as possible (usually they have a 4 year plan called "Legislative Term Limit")

M$ Zune doesn't work on Vista either so who's blaming who? Or who cares anyway. Just wait a few weeks and they'll "fix" it anyway... djeez. The damn thing is only a week released and already ppl are complaining.

Secondly it took just a few weeks from RC2 to RTM. So in essence if M$ had waited a bit longer to streamline RC2 then other parties would have had time to "fix" their stuff (including their own Zune-devision)

Also why should Apple support a competitors product? WHat's the use of developing your own OS and Music software if you're forced to adopt a competing OS and competing players. In essence Apple developped the Ipod, OSX, iTunes and Mac computers. In that combination works best certainly if you use it for what it was intended (which is to play MUSIC!!!)

Apple has the right to persuade ppl to use an OSX/iTunes combo over Vista/iTunes combination.

As for not liking the Ipod and the way iTunes integrate with it. Well I don't like this either. Unfortunatly I HAD no choice if I wanted to use an external audio-player in my car (I'll spare you the details). The only way to hook up a MP3-player to my car's audio system was through an iPod-adaptor. And hence THAT only supported... you got it... an Ipod. So in essence it was my car manufacturor that indirectly forced me to buy an iPod (and YES I ONLY use it in my car as a replacement for an expensive CD-changer which was the other alternative to my audio-system).And no my car has no aux-input nor aux-adaptors (then).

Oh well. We'll just have to wait and see? If and when Apple release it's SDK for it and who'll gets a change to play with the big boys (the hobbiest programmers definitly not)

    Not really.

A few ppl whom have been in the early computer age are indeed now in their fifties. But thats a very small minority, the majority is indeed very computer-illiterate.

Sure I "could" convince my dad to try OSX or Linux (in some form) but both my real mom (who's about the same age) and my stepmother (who's older than him) definitly can't. My stopmom hates computers period. My mom (whom I bought a desknote for 2 years ago) still doesn't understand the basics of file managment, she doesn't know the basic terminology and she doesn't seem to get it, no matter how many times I explain to her what e.g. a Webbrowser or a directory is. Even when I say "click on the big blue round E on the desktop" (indeed micro$oft Internet Exploder) she suddenly responds "whats the desktop?".

I dunno why I'm immidiatly into it when there's a new computer-thing and why they can't seem to grasp it (ever).

To just say: It 'is' their problem. Well that might be true. But (especially friends and family) they do keep knocking on 'MY' door. So in that case I can understand that ppl just choose the largest dominator.

  8. Re:A big reason Apple doesn't want to sell OS X on Bunk Camp - Apple Gets It Wrong? · · Score: 0

I think there's more to it as to why Apple won't sell OS X to the general public.

Anyway, it IS a fact that limiting hardware options DOES make a more stable system. In that respect is Apple right into limiting OS X functionality to a certain specific PC-parts. It's still more than enough choice for us end-users.

Besides... just build a PC similar to the offering from Apple and use the "available" OS X version. That'll create the same effect as Windows has been doing for years.

I think that as long as there's sufficient game-development on Windows PC's (and as long as ppl can "hire" them) Windows will sell (perhaps sell is not the right word here ;-) ). But Micro$oft is skating on thin ice now that they want to split gaming from PC's into XBox. That WILL open the way for other platforms to gain market share.

As for your remark of OS X users "wanting" to see that BSOD. They pay premiun prices for both HW and OS NOT to see it so why would they bother? Again for most "professional" work the underlying platform doesn't matter since many applications are developped both for Apple and Windows PC. It's the games that shoehorns (home-)users onto PC's.

I don't mind paying artists for their work. In fact this happens at a very direct level when you go the a concert.

I'm confident that if Artists would deal with consumers directly (which can be done even fully automated using internet-technology, databases and other computertechnologies). Ppl wouldn't mind. Especially since prices could be lower. In that respect I think "Fair use = Fair price"!

Also. Consider this. I've said this many times before (and say it here again).

Over 20 years ago when Philips/Sony introduced CD-audio, ppl complained about the high price of the media. "They" told us that over time CD-audio media would level towards vinyl record prices. This NEVER happened! To make matters worse, recent studies proove that CD-audio-players in many cases do NOT supply the promised quality improvement originally claimed by Philips/Sony. To sum up: they deceived us!

And this are just 2 things about this. There is more! Why do these companies sell us equipment and empty media to create "illegal" backups? If that is excactly what they dont want???

    WHat do these guys expect?

Why? "They" know that ppl don't stick together in this day and age and "They" know that individuals have no power to fight them. Isn't it Ceasar who said: "Divide and conquer!"?

How can this backfire? Very very simple. IF consumers worldwide start asking... pardon me, DEMANDING, for refunds for their electronic consumer devices like MP3-players (which all electronics gaints are dumping on the market right now), Hifi-tapedecks, Radio-cassette recorders, walkmans, TV-capturecards, computer audio(capture) cards etc...

Not only will they have to come up with large sums of cash (which they don't have anymore after closing down their EU-factories several years ago and moving to China or Korea). They will also have a massive dumpyard of the devices they initially wanted to sell to you with all the costs involved in that as well.

I'd say. Rip-out those soundcards (if build into the mainboard RIP-OUT the m/b then >:-> ) and demand for a refunds!
