  1. Tech leader yes, but still need to oust Ballmer on It's Not a New Ballmer Microsoft Needs; It's a New Gates · · Score: 1

A tech leader and visionary is needed. I agree. They also need to oust Ballmer...and not replace him. A person talented enough to be a tech leader wouldn't want to work for the kind of company a "Ballmer" makes Microsoft into....where enthusiasm for innovative IT is thwarted by a "windows tax" and a culture of protecting existing technology from yesterday.

  2. Not really new on Could Amazon Reviews Be Corrupt? · · Score: 1

I remember reading an article years ago about how a flub at Amazon accidentally revealed that authors were giving hagiograhical reviews to their own books under fake names.

I also remember reading something about authors coaxing groups of friends to publish reviews of new books.

Then there are the "civilians" who use the Amazon review section as social media, obviously ( sometimes even stated ) reviewing a book without having read it, having some of axe to grind with the politics, subject or author.

Today is the first day of Google+, Google's answer to Facebook.

I just thought I would mention it since I don't see news of it ( accept this thread ) on Slashdot and getting a story accepted on Slashdot is like winning the lottery.

I think I will forever be suspicious of Google due to the stunt they pulled last year with Buzz and censoring Tiannamen Square massacre information from Google China.

However, a CNet article I read stated that Google+ has better and simpler privacy. Hopefully competition from Google+ will force Facebook to do the same.

It isn't your fault. A lot of it is built into our infrastructure. The most meaningful way to lighten your footprint is to have smaller families and if you already have a family teach your children to have smaller families.

    2. You can still have kids and help the overpopulation problem

The global population replacement rate is just over 2 children per women. Thus you can have up to 2 kids of your own and NOT contribute to the population increasing. You can also make a contribution by teaching your children about population issues

I discovered that Google Calender event reminders have simply stopped working for many people, with no reason identified and very little, if anything said about it by Google. Luckily I only missed reminders like "take out the trash".

Other people have narrowly missed meetings.

I was kind of surprised I heard nothing about this issue on slashdot. It has existed for at least 1 - 2 months for many people.
