hehe I knew there would be someone geek enough to show me that! Awesome! I was really not serious in the slightest, and can't believe that no one modded it funny yet!
Physics will beat the law each and every time. Why? 'cause, right now at least, basic laws of physics are so far infallible at traffic speeds. It's easy to show that w/ a standard deceleration and speed @ the speed limit, and a yellow light changing when you crossed landmark X that any significant percentage of vehicles may not have the capabilities to stop in that timeframe. Especially if your driving an SUV or heavier car.
Boiling has to do w/ molecular excitement due to pressure gradients. If you take that water, and boil it in denver, You'll find no amount of exact measuring will come up w/ 373.1339 K
Please, remeber that sea level is a relative thing only to earth.
I was wondering, If there is this much force coming via acoustical waves, there must be a way to harness it. maybe by etching spirals (with some kind of downward lip) into the cyclinder we can force those waves out in a straight usable manner?
I know that sound waves do have the ability to be directed, and reflected, but at what point can those deflections become useful energy?
That process doesn't happen overnight. I said "they can upgrade when they are ready." If they can't do anything usefull w/ their computer, then they better be ready!
Security fixes won't be released.... TRUE Bugs not fixed? Same as above New apps won't run? Maybe, not a given Some will many won't New hardware wont have drivers Maybe, not a given Some will many won't Plus standard stuff like digicams, scanners, keyboards, mice, and hardware supported on that motherboard will still more than likely get drivers.
Your totally right about the bank part, I was just trying to strum up a quick example, and I failed the logic test, I guess... They still own it though. A lein is proof of ownership untill the lein is paid. That is what I was getting at though, trying to get a little bit more grip on the definition of posession.
If the *.AA decides that somehow we backed up a drive w/ music on it, and it was against our policy to do so, and there were no other remedy or measure of immunity, you can damn well bet that we would find any and all ways to point them to the user, and dicipline that user according to policy. There is no company on earth who wouldn't do that, otherwise a nice quick easy way to sabotage a company would be to stash a crapload of mp3's and porn on a shared drive, show it was there for a long time, then call 1-800-555-pir8 (or whatever that # is) and leave an anonymous tip about how the company has tons of MP3s and porn for use by the rest of the org!
Seriously? You back up C? For real? How? Why?
I understand for some smaller places, but that's what network drives are for. I am not talking about an install image, I am talking about all of C:\ for each computer. What business reason is there to back up the C drive? Do you not use Network drives? Is this daily, weekly, mothly, quarterly?
I am trying to learn about this, and no one will give me a straight answer.
The first two posts are about Sub $300 laptops... NO thank you 1st, determine the needs of the laptop. Is it going to control the nav system on your sailboat? Your going to need a lot more than a standard $500 besbuy BS.
If you mean, what is the best price performance ratio I have found for laptops, I would it's around 1100, here is how...
Start w/ laptops that have a min of 2G ram and then go for the best Proc/HDD/Videocard combo you can obtain for your special needs, with $1100.
$900 if your on an outlet site like Dell.com/outlet. If you look really hard, you might be able to pull all that for ~800 but is it worth the extra 200 in time? not I...
I have a lot of clients come to me and ask what laptop should they buy for $xxx. I allways tell them that they aren't financially ready for a laptop if they can't afford one that they can grow into. That and at $500 the laptop now becomes disposable, and it will be because it won't keep pace as you start to use more applications on it, or you'll say it's just $x00 and not treat it the same as you would a real computing investment.
Though, they do hold their value slightly longer than a PC, but performance is increasing rapidly, and if you want one to perform as good as your desktop, you really need to get over the 1K mark.
What do most of my clients do? I point the lesser off guys towards outlet sites, and the better guys to Toshiba, NEC, and the like.
And don't forget the cost of an extra battery, lugage, etc.. The battery can make this sweet by being able to quickly hibernate, swap batts, then resume to the work you were doing!
I in my heart, agree with that sentiment. But, we all have fits of rage and want revenge from time to time. The ability to control that is what makes us human!
I have been around a bit, I do know that about bot nets. But if you burn kill a box, one at a time, via a magic packet exploit of some sort, or some kind of dos attack, how long would it take you to blow out multiple small boxes if you had 1 central mega setup? It would be like an "bizzaro" DoS attack.
It'd be like playing starcraft. If you put a solder agianst a tank, your going to lose the soldier right? But if all you have is soldiers and you focus fire down on the largest units first they all will eventually wear down (this is a DOS essentially right?). Yeah you'll lose lots of soldiers, but you'll replace your soldiers faster than tanks.
Conversley, if a tank hits a soldier, he instantly dies. Since this is electronic warefare, and the big behemoths on the net are like SUPER tanks w/ lots of little gunners too. maybe there is some algorithym they can employ to do a backwards DOS, rapidly switching off targets as they expire?
(that was my Idea but I didn't portray it well sorry)
Maybe they can find a way to have a router overvolt a packet to knock out an individual computer! (j/k but it'd make good stupid movie explanation)
I have allways wondered why people don't automatically Re-DOS the DOSer. Is that even possible, just start picking targets that are attacking, and flood them back till their network card pops or something.
An important thing to note here is that a dedicated soundcard is no longer a necessary component of a computer due to onboard sound That's true, if you do not care about things like framerate or noise. It'll work just fine for youtube, the news, and torrents of your favorite legal tv shows and movies.
Throw in Hi def gaming, or a real media center, and a soundcard isn't just an enthusiasts upgrade, it's a necessity.
Ahh you made me remember sweet violet, and BRE, and the Tacoma Area BBS listing (TABBS) that was printed in the paper. I met and ran into a few sysops in my day but never had the resources at that time to start one up. I often think the BBS format may rise again over tcp/ip if P2P gets destroyed. It'd be so easy to hide them on open networks accross the country.
But that is offtopic, and I am probably flagged as a terrorist after that last sentance... Oh well.
Maybe not w/ gnome, but I remember a Slashdot article about this a few years back. One thing to note, while some people might be irregular, almost anyone who keys in a UID every day will have some sort of "pattern" to the time between keystrokes.
Typematic rate lol....
It's really interesting to see what the differences are between key presses when recording a macro w/ a G15. (if you have this awesome keyboard, and don't know what I am talking about try it out!) I have done this cause I am weird... but you could try too!
If you record a significant count of you typing in a UID and PW on a given site (that you use frequently) you will find a unique structure to the timing of the keystrokes. While the G15 doesn't go to the # of digits needed for secure authorization, it can show you that there is little variance over a large number of true trials.
It might cause issues... or not. Those who build a New computer w/ a new OS won't have anything to worry about.
Others can just stay on their old platform until they are ready to upgrade. Its not forcing anyones hand, it's giving them a new option that they didn't have before.
Personally, I think OS's should be like governments per the quote of some famous USA founder..
"violently overthrown every 100 years" which is about 10 years in computer terms...
That's just it, it's not a benefit. It's someone going against policy. I am pretty sure deminimus use doesn't count as a benefit either. It's been covered before.
(but to use your example, a company would rather comply w/ tax law and pay "insurance" than be liable for a potential lawsuit down the road)
hehe I knew there would be someone geek enough to show me that! Awesome! I was really not serious in the slightest, and can't believe that no one modded it funny yet!

Haha... but you did get John Elway, so I guess it evens out...
I really like it there. It feels like Western WA because the mountains are allways in the background, it's just not green.

j/k.
ty for the correction, I never preview.

Haha, after re-reading that, it appears you are correct. In a slashdot 1st... I conceede I stand corrected!
true... the same concept, a key is a key no matter how you hit it, or what it's attached to.

Please, drunk dialing should be a civil infraction penalized in this manner
for each # called...
1st offense:
A stern warning.
2nd offense:
$250 restitution to the victim, 1 months probation
3rd offense:
Death.
That's why it's called the 3 finger salute!
My freind has a song sung to the tune of camptown races.
Ctrl-Alt-Delete format reinstall do dah do dah
Throw your data out the door do dah do dah
I don't remember the rest but it's pretty funny.
