this measure lost, while I don't remember the margin it lost by, I do remember the long list of groups that were opposed to it. I don't think you can use this item to support your point.
hire yourself without telling. There was a hysterical article in the New Yorker a while ago, about this guy who waltzed into a.com company, got past the security guard, and picked out a cubicle for himself. Over the next few days, he got himself setup with a phone extension and a computer, despite never being hired or knowing anyone. Acording to him, nobody there knew what was going on, and people showing up, and vanishing with no explaination was completely normal. He wasn't getting paid for his time there, but he got a productive setting to do his own work, and he got free food. The article sounded so bizzare that I wondered if it was true, but a week later I saw a small note in the paper, that the author of that article had been called to task, because he made up one encounter in the story, and he didn't disclose that his mother had previously been an employee of that company, so I assume the rest of it was true.
we had one at the place I used to work, and listening to that stupid fish start singing, was a welcome break to the days boredom. (other people would sing allong or dance to it)
I use two monitors and yes, I can use both monitors at the same time. I keep an IRC window open on one of the monitors, and if I'm looking at the first one, and someone says something in that channel, out of the corner of my eye, I'll see the all the text move up a line.
yes, I know this would require a huge restructuring of the telephone system, plus we'd have to all buy new phones with more buttons, and probably cause more mayhem than it's worth, but do the calculations and see how many extra phone numbers a base 16 system has over base 10.
and they've never been ones that I've ever played, and probably never existed either. I guess my brain just makes them up on the spot, and they're good games too..
So I would guess that O'Reilly is targeting a more sophisticated audience than the 'for dummies' book is. I have NO idea how they made a whole book about playing and encoding MP3s for the beginner..unless half of the book looks like this
the worst (l)users are the arrogent ones, not the dumb ones. I'm sure you all have dealt w/ the people who activly refuse to learn anything about the task they have to do, or believe that they can accomplish something that they have no experience, aptitude or training for, and then blame you when they can't accomplish this task. It is perfectly okay to make fun of these people.
well a cell animated version, done well. Anime style..not saturday morning cartoon, or disney style.....and in listing video games that didn't quite make it in their big screen debut, the Wiz, and Wing Comander shoudln't be forgotten...well maybe they should.
I'm curious as to wether the study asked about playing games specifically targeted for girls. (can't reach the article)So how many of you who use female personas have one of the barbie programs on your computer..none? I thought so. oh, and since no discussion of video games can be completle without mentioning Lara Croft. I've always prefered the Castlevania series to Tomb Raider.
but nobodys complaining. You wonder where all the women go, that create the gender disparity at tech schools..some of them goto liberal arts schools..(which usually have between 1-4% more women then men)..and they goto art schools. ESPECIALLY for night school. Last year when I was taking night classes, (both in traditional fine arts, and some computer stuff) the percentages were about 60% female for fine arts and 75%-80% for computer courses (animation, desktop publishing..etc..) (I'm not sure what these figures go to show). And yes, when we do computer stuff in our classes, the people to step up to the computers are almost invariably men..who don't ask for help no matter what goes wrong

tell us John, what was the final outcome? (or did this get posted to/.,and I didn't notice....and a few more questions 2) how much does it irk you when people refer to you as John Katz, not Jon Katz? 3) if Rob&crew made your job at/. contingent on spending 3 hours a day moderating trolls down, would you do it? 4) how do you handle all the abuse you get..which is more annoying, the sophmoric name calling, or the well thought out disection and roasting of anything you write

Chapter 1: turning on your computer
I find your computer
II find the power switch
III try to find the power switch again
If you lived here you'd be spammed by now ?

Raytheon and Radon..oh well, I'll keep chugging along w/ my 2 megs of VRAM for 1 monitor and 1 meg for the other one.
