In a surprising development, Apple and Microsoft have joined forces to sue every company that develops a text editor. This is justified because this tool allow consumers to
(1) reverse engineer our software,
(2) and say unkind things about our products and companies, both of which are clear violations of the licensing agreement and the digital millenium copyright act.
"The consumer is going to eat what he's given." I assume he is refering to Window$? Or is that any Micro$oft product? Or is this the monopoly speaking?
I'm sorry, I just can't believe that they are that arrogant.
One interesting correlation between hi-technology and the people who live in them is the tolerance of the area for alternative lifetsyles according to a recent article in the Austin American Statesman. Apparently both groups of people, gays and hi-tech workers, are looking for the same type of place to live.
You betcha, because most of the drek UI's are created by designers/programers who already know how to use the stuff. They don't have a clue as to how a novice/1st timer will react to their interface. If your app is aimed at the tech market fine, if it's aimed at the general public, make it so your mom can use it.
Don't worry about originality, worry about usability.
We broadcast in windows format because Real Media Really sucks. It crashes, it's a resource/memory hog and a nightmare for our customer service department.
1) If all the weather channel is doing is repackaging data from the gov't then, why do you need the weather channel? go to the source! 2) as far as ebay goes, if I'm selling something, the more people who see it, the more likely I'll get a better price, so as an ebay user I'd be upset. As far as ebay goes, they are trying to build a brand name, so they want their name/site to be used, not joe's auction who just repackages their material.

DOJ where are you?
They run FreeBSD themselves. http://uptime.netcraft.com/up/graph/?host=www.comm unitech.net
This is all hype, the real story will be when someone hacks the XBox and gets Linux running on it. Then it will be useful.
1. When did they start programming? The best answer is a long time ago, i.e. before they got into college.
2. How many computers do they have at home. The answer should be more than one (and it should be because of their answer to #1).
3. Which leads us into the next question. How are they connected? If they're not, then this isn't the person you're looking for.
4. And finally the last question. Why do you program? Remember, you're looking for someone who actually likes programming.
Finally a use for one of those Microsoft lurkers. Thanks for the informative response.

"After being purchased from Amiga earlier this year, former marketing execs Bill McEwen and Fleecy Moss ..."
Just remember the phrase "The south shall rise again!"
Why is there no difference in price?
I guess you never learned the first rule of programming.
Never critize those who came before you. They didn't have the benefit of your knowledge.
So the moral of the story is that only less than 18 year olds should install software, because then the license isn't legally binding.
If your going to take something away from somebody, do it to use it.
