Well, i would say from google or yahoo's perspective, 7.2% is negligible. Otherwise, wouldn't they support it for the apps you were referring to? I mean, we aren't talking about windows vs linux here, the differences between browser AJAX support and standards compliance aren't large enough that it can't be done without a separate development team.
The difference in compatibility between FF and IE (especially 6.0) is staggering, but they choose those browsers to support, and this decision is made with market share in mind, not standards compliance.
And i took the GPs point to be that the differences are minute, not non-existent.
you mean there are other countries outside of the EU, USA, and Japan?
seriously, though, doesn't south korea also have superior broadband compared to the US?
You are overlooking a significant point.. Safari has a negligible market share. Why cater to niche browsers when only 1-3% of your traffic is coming from them?
Imagine if they would have only shown some foresight and embraced digital music when it was actually in it's infant stages. Imagine if they wouldn't have been so ignorant and stuck in their ways and old business models and actually fostered digital distribution of their product instead of wasting all their money on suing college and high school students trying to stop everyone from being able to play music on anything but a CD/Cassette/Album.
It's possible the point will be moot, as Microsoft might even include mkv support out of the box for Windows 7.
As of now, the current Beta does not play mkvs out of the box, BUT, the registry includes class keys for.mkv files, something previous versions of windows did not. Windows 7 already supports mp4 containers and h264/x264 and xvid codecs out of the box. It's possible Microsoft is working on their own mastroska splitter for use with their media foundation codecs for inclusion in the RTM.
It would be nice if Microsoft made it unnecessary the need of third-party applications to handle the current codecs and file formats.
Look, I'll let the 50-60% of uneducated internet users out there that still use Internet Explorer as their main browser give them all the ad revenue they can handle. The majority of people are sheep and can be advertised to death. I never said people shouldn't use Chrome, i was merely agreeing with the poster who, like me, has no tolerance for advertising (or at least the advertising on the internet). I never said they should stop making money off of the idiot majority, they just won't make any money of me from advertising.
that is a very astute point. I love google, as a company, but i hate advertising. As much as i would love to use everything google offers, blocking annoying and intrusive advertising is a high priority to me.
Le Sigh.
The idea is to EDUCATE our kids with better technology, therefore making our next generation more equipped to fill the technology sectors and such, hopefully keeping us on top of the technology sector.
This has nothing to do with stimulating the economy by buying computers or broadband. This is a long-term solution to help the economy, not a quick band-aid.
Way to let the issue fly over your head.
yea, i agree. i refuse to upgrade my paypal account to a premium account. I often times need to sell something on ebay, and i no longer use paypal as an official means of payment. If someone wants to pay me with a paypal payment that is not funded by a credit card, i'm all for it, and i'd rather then pay that way than with a money order. But i can't put paypal on my listing because if i do, then according to ebay, i have to accept all forms of paypal transactions. That is just unacceptable. i'm not going to pay for a service twice. It's shocking to me that a competitive paypal alternative hasn't appeared yet, at least in the states.
yea, you are missing terrestrial radio and ipods. Your analogy might hold weight if more than 5 channels were broadcast over the air, or if the tv download model was as successful as the music download model is.

i don't think that one is Windows 95 exclusive.
TRAINING FEE? seriously? wow.
it's called bandwidth. just wait for the bittorrent release and have a cookie. or biscuit, or whatever.
