Given that US military struggled even with Vietnam, winning a war with Russia as defender is an impossibility for them, even if nuclear weapons are excluded. They could only muster enough forces for such a war if Russia invaded New York or something.
The war isn't an actual possibility, MAD principle is still in effect. Nobody will risk a nuclear exchange for such silly reasons as "enforcing no fly zone over Syria". US simply has nothing to lose there, and nothing to fight for.
But now we shouldn't consider installing linux manually to be the default way. Most people can't or don't want to manually install OS and while having linux equals installing it manually in minds of people it'll remain a niche OS on desktop. Even experienced users who installed various distros innumerable times should consider getting their new laptops/PCs with linux pre-installed. Even if they install own distro, a linux tested hardware is less likely to lead to driver issues.
Average users shouldn't install OS themselves. There's already plenty of laptops with linux pre-installed for sale. Custom OS installs are only good for enthusiast early-adopters and skilled people with particular requirements.

That is due to the nature of other side, which are all pious Muslims, and proper implementation of Islam requires removal of all infidels like Christians and Alawites. Such intolerance doesn't fit in modern world, but each Muslim who is becoming more tolerant is betraying his roots and his Prophet. Sad but true.
Russian gov lacks capability to do something like that. They're all luddites there, having own website and twitter is about as high as they can go. Governments always move slowly in such matters. All people there KNOW they're people of Rus, don't need to invent new nationalities. I'm not making any argument here, I just state that I'm not convinced you could meaningfully build Ukraine as state with single nationality, it never was a nationality, just some scholar's pet project. Actual people simply don't fit in this model, for example most of the people in Crimea never had Ukrainian as native tongue, same applies to many other regions. And Western regions of Ukraine aren't too homogenous either. Pretty sure scholars could make even more separate nationalities from those regions if they care. There is no objective line between Russian and Ukrainian, so it'll be always ripe for abuse and contradictory interpretations. Better don't have notion of Ukraine altogether.

Yes, it's very hard to believe that since no particular candidate would give Russia more benefit, and Putin is basically an american puppet anyway.
