Bah... I'm not very fond of MLK day. I think he, and Jesus are the only people in the states that get a day to themselves. Isn't today R.E. Lee day as well?
Today's just another day that I either I or my wife have to take a vacation day because the damn schools are closed. AND my trash can is full and it won't be picked up till wednesday now.
Why can't they put all these damn days on the weekend?
I'm all for this. A note to all law enforcement, take the day off on Service day.
Now, when the hell is Service day? I've never heard of it. I'm much prefer sysadmin day and talk like a pirate day.
Not really, plenty of churches display to chuch size crowds, where are similar to school sized crowds (500-5000.) I live in a non-rich zone/district and the local elementary/mid/high all have this capability.
And a ginormous screen isn't as imparitive to the experience as making sure they can hear well.
Ha, I have Macs that are older than most of the kids in that pic.
I still run 7.5.3 as my main OS;)
To hell with you fancy OS 8 users!!!

All you have to do is let them monitor all of the traffic that goes through them so they can data mine it for useful but anonymous markeing information.

I live much, much deeper in the woods than you. We have yet to evolve sufficiently to maintain those so called memories. We are destined to repeat the same mistakes over and over again.
Bah, this was a sci-fi made for TV... If I could actually stand to sit there long enough to watch one, I would be able to tell you how it ends.
But I do know it contains a lot of screaming, colapsing cities, really bad CGI and Bruce Cambell.
And this would have the added benefit of getting rid of the teacher's union and the Tenure rules. Those two things together ensure that we have some of the most incompetant and over paid teachers in the world. Where I work, if I don't perform, I'll be replaced. If I do a good job, I'll get a raise. Tenure has made many teachers not give a damn.
Disc: My mom and sister are both teachers, and members of the NEA.
Of course with Human involvement, but by people who thing they are protected be the corporate veil, and can not be prosecuted for committing crimes. I'm saying that in many cases their is a company (of any size) behind the hiring, not an individual.
Let me clarify, because I'm not sure if you understood what I was saying. I'm not talking about putting immigrants in jail for working or being here. I'm saying put the people who are HIRING them in jail.
My father-in-law runs a temp labor service. He won't hire the illegals because to compete with the companies that do he would have to pay them a very low wage ($2-$3)/hour. He won't do that because it's taking advantage of human beings, it's slavery. Because of that he has clients that use him just based on the fact that he's doing the right thing. (And somewhat because his workers speak English) (I had a point here, I lost it)
Anyway, if the people running companies the size of his, all the way up to mega huge companies like Dole, had the threat of jail time, they'd be MUCH less likely to hire illegals. Threat of prison time is very scary to most who have a cushy life.
That's assuming our country could manage that income effectively, but they've proven with what we've given them, that they want to bail out executives and the United Auto Workers.
Giving them more money to play with is just going to make that problem bigger.
The problem is, they're only paying consumption taxes.
Being illegal, they aren't paying the income taxes. In almost all cases, they can't own land, so they can't pay property taxes. They aren't paying social security....
Looking at my paystub, Fed Income Tax 154 Social Security 143 Medicare 33 State Income Tax 108 Health Insurance 326
All of things put together are what I pay to the govermnet every month so my kids can go to school, I have paved roads to drive on, there are parks in my neighborhood and when I get old I have some minute chance that the gov may give me some money back.
Do illegals pay all this stuff? No.
And in most cases they are not hired by US Citizens. They are hired by greedy US Corporations. Personally I don't know anyone with enough money for a mexican maid or lawn guy. And the solution for that is to make these companies HURT when their caught. MASSIVE fines and Jail time. Not a slap on the wrist. When the work dries up, we won't need deporation, we just open the borders and let them walk back home.
But in sanctuary cities, we don't have any way to even tell if they're illegal, so large evil corps LOVE sancturary cities. Eliminate those as well.
Not with the taxing entertainment, but I'm really not too upset about that one. But the rest of the country needs to back off on the social programs. Schools, no. Trying to pay for EVERYTHING to make sure EVERY warm body (citizen or not) has the same benefits as everyone else just isn't sustainable. Go ahead, tax the rich. And, as in the case of NYC, they are moving out in droves. So that leaves you with masses of people dependant on welfare, and no more rich left to tax.
California is going to be next here. They have a massive immigration issue. It's one thing to turn a blind eye (sanctuary cities anyone?) to the problem, Its another to try to feed, cloth, house, and healthcare every single person that shows up on your doorstep.
As Spock said, "needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few." The many are the 300Million United States Citizens, the few are the 20M illegal immigrants
"I cannot recommend people switch due to this one flaw," said John Curran, head of Microsoft UK's Windows group. If we finish the sentence, it's: "I cannot recommend people switch due to this one flaw, because I'd loose my job." said John Curran, head of Microsoft UK's Windows group.
A complicated set of mirrors placed all over the desk could solve that problem, but it presents its own new set of problems. One alone would not be good, need even amount to get rid of the 'mirror image' problem.
Actually, I said this jokeingly, but it would allow you to be able to have have rather small monitor, at say 12", but a really high resolution, optically blown up in front of you. It would also make your hand massive though. Getting all those optics lined up would just be a nighmare though.
Fine for personal, and if I was just doing a server or two, but I need some higher level features Not offered here:
1. Ability to have one backup server running backups of other servers.
2. Support onsite/offsite, online/nearline/offline backups.
3. Support archiving of old data.
4. Data deduplication.
5. Proactive/Continual backups
6. Exchange database backup.
7. Full server, barebones restore
8. Full/Incremental/Differential backups
Just curious, what was the comercial software?
I am in no way opposed to Commercial or OSS. I simply use what gets the job done for me while considering stability, ease of use, performance and cost. Sometimes Comercial software is the winner (exchange) and othertimes not, (LAMP)
Can everyone please give their opinion of Bacula vs Amanda? (The only thing that looks good TO ME about BackupPC is it's data de-duplication)
Currently I'm using Retrospect, and it gets the job done, but has flaws and I'm not ready to pay the upgrade price (we originally got a free license)
I'm a VERY mixed environment, we have:
Win2k3 w/exchange
Win2k3 for file/print
Centos for:
MySQL
Apache
Pen/VRRP load balancing
MailScanner virus/spam gateway
Vmware Server (all hosts are linux, guests are mixed)
Vmware ESXi
Right now retrospect does a good job on all of it except MySQL. Well, except for the fact that it recently lost a backup set at the same time the server hosting the files died, loosing 20GB of data:/
I have another handwritten backup script that rsyncs the most crucial data to exavault.
have either of you tried Kayako?
I'm using it, not because I think it's great, but because it fit the bill at the time, was not too expensive ($500) and I didn't have time to look for something else. I am very interested in something that's better. But I'm not going to move to something that, graphically, is CRAP. (OTRS)
If you install a recent distro, probably slower. The recent stuff has all expanded to use newer hardware. If you want to run it as a server or just a console, it would be faster.
On the other hand, if you want to look for a distro that's specifically FOR limited hardware (remember they can run linux on PDAs) then that should be very fast. Don't expect to put the newest Ubuntu on there and have a fast machine.
I have deep disdain for djb. Every time he finds a problem with the internet, and boy does he find them, his solution is to write his very own version that he maintains control of. Don't like something about HIS version? Screw you, because it hasn't had any security bugs since it was ever released. And screw the fact that it hasn't been updated, and therefore hasn't picked up a single new feature, in 10 years.
And yes, I completely think he's trying to build a completely new solution to the problem. Have you ever known him to FIX anything? No, he scraps it all, writes something small and feature poor, but secure due to simplicity. I don't think anyone's found a overflow in notepad either djb!
He just builds the alternatives to feed his ego. please people, don't feed the animals.
Just your typical media matters drivel. Sure, they CLAIM. Drudge claims. Rush, Savage, Beck, huffington, air america, they all claim something.

:) Obviously we caused Marsian warming. Or at least us conservatives did it. Do you know how much fossil fuels it takes to get from here to there.

I for one welcome a little color to my server room. See their search appliance, and wtf does hassellhoff have to do with one? http://googleenterprise.blogspot.com/uploaded_images/HoffGSA-767114.jpg Anyway, server equipment has been traditionally shades of grey for too long now. http://www.itmweb.com/bimages/lonestarsc01.jpg I'm sick of it. I want to see some SGI purple
If you live in Mobile, can work 20 hours and know LAMP, send me a resume.
