I wasnt being down on the Amiga, i had a 500/1200/cd32, coded games and demos for it, loved it... its just that i agree with you - its over now.
the last amiga mag just folded in the u.k. (think it was the last one - Amiga Format) - used to flick through it now and again for nostalgias sake, but it really has been dead for a while now, and its not coming back.
guess i`ll dnld and play a game every now and again though, there were a lot of classics for it... sometimes a 3d game just isnt good enough...
"That's the weird thing with this new Amiga. There's this eerie calmness. It's not erratic, people aren't making rumors, they're not seeking this stuff out"
i`ve found that compiling a program using the IDE is not the same as compiling the program using the options displayed in the ide...you get different output.
yeah, i cant get http://www.teledanmark.dk/vaerktoej/mailform.html to send sms`s (to denmark) properly if i have junkbusters fake proxy running, even if i dont have a cookie file, or allow all cookies! is it me, or is junkbusters proxy bugged or what? have you had problems with this?
Its simply not possible to press just one single button on a vcr, microwave, radio, games console, mobile phone etc and screw up everything to the point of having to spend 3 hours undoing it (or having to take it back to the shop). Is the fact that you can make this happen on a pc a fault in the user, or the pc? Perhaps there should be a `user` mode of some sort that just *doesnt* let you f**k things up, no matter how inconvenient. Perhaps ignorance isnt bliss, anymore?
The UK. Government is considering doing away with the rule which disallows a second prosecution after the original one has failed. I assume that this idea will face the same problems as in the Australian case - that people will know about the case beforehand.
Given the current trend towards the New World Order (with its one set of laws for everyone) perhaps applying this worldwide would be one way of `solving` the `problem` (of info about trials on websites) - it`d just be ignored. The trial would just go ahead anyway.
...contempt of court for publishing stuff about pending court cases (would at least move sites to another country)
Or not disclosing the names of any people in the court case (defendant, witnesses), including to the jury, until after the case...
Theres already too much stuff in the press...Craig Charles was accused of rape, held on remand (in prison) for months, eventually found not guilty, but its not like the doctrine of `innocent until proven guilty` was uphelp there, was it?! Plus you get vigilante type idiots who believe anything the police say as an excuse to get all hot and bothered about stuff...
Hey, dont worry about it..i post and get called an idiot sometimes; who cares? Its not like people take anonymous cowards seriously...thats why you can set your threshold to 0 (or above)... lose the losers...
If by muzak you mean unchallenging, tedious, repetative cack, you could try stuff by a band called `metallica`. I hear there is some stuff by them on a site called `napster`.
"Think about this globally. The US can pass a law that the US backbones cannot exchange information with "rogue networks," networks that don't follow US law. The US can pass a law that they will not trade with countries that don't pass similar laws. The UK can do the same. Pretty soon, there is no where to go."
This only applies to the internet, right? Not all computer networks (gnutella, freenet etc)?
If this was the u.k, i *think* he`d be in contempt of court if ordered to hand over domain xxx.god to company y, and he refused. Isnt this the same (or similar) in the states?
I`ve had worse jobs. For the record, Linux is shit.

i`m in the uk...i heard of boo.com...but arent there loads of online shops now? You need to to better than just being online to be a success now, mateys!
Yeah, i heard of lastminute.com...went there, shite (compared to cheapflights.com), never been back.
Loved your description of the average users of this stuff though. My mate calls those people (typically 14-20 year old girls with multiple jerry-springer-guest hairstyles) `Kappa slappers`:)
hey...that sounds familiar!!! didnt ol` kasey use to say something like that when he wasnt doing scooby do voices. and recording hit songs like the hit track `u2` for www.negativland.com
stupid things the various governments of the world have planned and/or done.
you should check out `a higher form of killing` by jeremy paxman (yes, THAT pacman, if you`re in the u.k.) to see more `well-spent` tax dollars/pounds... amazing stuff (its about nerve/germ/biological warfare)...
because this issue (wasting money on `we did it because we can` projects when there are..uh...*slightly* more important problems closer to home that can be solved with just money (and/or a fraction of the technology involved on, say, putting a car on the moon) is as relevant now as it was almost 30 years ago when this song was written (one of the first `rap` songs too...)
Check it out..the lyrics are on the net somewhere i`m sure...

"Higher-level encryption products, notably PGP, are available free to everybody over the Internet provided that they *say* they are from the US. "
You dont have to `say` you`re from anywhere...
www.pgpi.com
has version 6.5.1i (i = international)
a wholy legal, inside and out of the states, version of pgp.

if if they are in the clear, they maybe cant afford the case, or the risk of a bad judgement...
1) why not allow cut and paste, rather than url entering
2) why not host it somewhere else (outside the states)
3) i thought the good `ol us of a allowed what would otherwise be (C) violations if its a parody (fair use)
4) couldnt the site only translate a little of the url`d site?
arent there other things that could be done that just pulling the plug? Sad...
