  1. They've got a new product on SCO Change Their Name to Tarantella · · Score: 4

SCO, err Tarantella has a new product called, surprisingly enough, tarantella. It's basically a web app that allows different platforms to run applications through it.

    There is a demo here

It's pretty cool, but it's dirt slow.

They've got it set up so you can run Word or Powerpoint, a few unix apps, etc. all on your web browser.

Hey, if people want to blow their money by being prime examples of Pavlov's Dog, more power to them.

The Man's making his money off the gambling rings anyway. He just needs to shut up, sit down and watch the Mathematically deficient blow their money.

As a quote said somewhere "Gambling is a tax on those with poor Math skills."

The only reason I could possibly see the Gov't not wanting Internet gambling is if they are unable to tax it.

  7. Poor Marketing and Followup on LinuxFest 2000 : More Penguins Than People · · Score: 2

My wife is a salesperson at worknet, a dirt-cheap alternative to land-lines. She spent a week trying to get a booth at the fest but the guy in charge of booth rental didn't return phone calls, when he did he didn't have any useful information. She was unable to ever get a booth.

I know there is a huge following here in KC for Linux, I just don't think anyone knew about the event.

It was poorly marketed, mismanaged, and was generally a first class kluge. They need to take the people responsible for the thing out and thoroughly beaten with a large blunt object.

Sorry, I just think it's kinda funny that so many slashdotters claim to be libertarian and then turn around and expect the govt. to break up MS. Personally, I would rather see the market punish MS. Move from MS products to quality products. MS will either be forced to change to what the market wants (instead of what MS wants), or they will die out. Iron_Slinger -- Pain is just weakness leaving the body.

We tell the world about our faith because we were commanded to by our savior. "Therefor go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the son and the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you..." We also tell people because we are genuinely concerned about people's salvation. I personally would feel horrible if someone I knew died and I did nothing to tell them about Christ and the joy and peace that he provides. Not preaching, just replying.

  19. A book for whiners. on Excerpt From "Geeks" · · Score: 1

I guess I don't get it. I really couldn't read any further than the dictionary references, (which, by the way, my first year writing teacher in high school taught us not to do.) Why do so many people still live in highschool when they are 20+ years old. Who cares about being popular anymore? High School sucked. Everyone (or at least most of us) agrees on that. But since we can't go back in time, and we really can't change the fact that mankind is just evil, doesn't it make sense to let it go? I know it's not as easy as that, but find a counselor, priest, pastor, friend, whatever and work through it. Popularity, sports, school, your job, the past. None of it matters. Instead of spending so much energy focusing on the little things that don't matter, we need to focus on the really big things that do matter. Iron Slinger - No one ever said "I wish I would have worked more" on their death bed.
