I don't know about in your backward sounding country; but in the UK if a jury decides that a person is 'not guilty' then it has been decided they have not committed a crime. This may be an unusual system to you, but it is what is called the Justice System in the UK - other countries may not like it but it kind of suits us.

The jury hasn't decided that he has not committed a crime. It means he hasn't committed the crime he went to court for.

Of course he didn't defraud the copyright holders but but in my opinion there is very good evidence that he did defraud the users of his service. The mere fact he felt the need to spread the cash amongst numerous accounts says it all.

In fact it's my opinion most people asking for donations are just trying to profit through guilt tripping. That's why I won't donate anything unless it's an open source project that has provided something of value like PostgreSQL.

As he has now been cleared of a crime - anyone in the UK (and possibly elsewhere) implying he is a criminal is open to be sued - he will also be able to keep any profits made.

He could but he could also be taken to court for something else because Oink was, at best, morally dubious. I think that's why Oink won't come back.

Also he's not entirely in the clear as he moved Oink to the Netherlands and action could be taken against him there and he'll have to come up with a better excuse than he used a free template that happened to have the ability to share torrents in it.

As the first case against bittorent use in the UK, this stands as a common sense outcome decided by the jury.

The music industry tried a new angle which was a poor angle to take and they've lost.

I have no qualms about people sharing music amongst friends and even having that spider out further than the original sharing may have realised.

I do think however that any service set up to allow you to share with anyone should be shut down. At that point it's gone beyond friends and will have to become a business because you can't simply serve millions of people for free. So at that point you business starts profiting from crime even if it's not committing a crime and that shouldn't be allowed. File sharing should be a zero cost activity amongst friends.

Vimeo is fine on my desktop and main laptop but it's pretty awful for netbooks and smart phones. Between those sorts of devices and the shear amount of old hardware out there, I would guess the needs of the many would be for something that's not as processor intensive.

That's why PC gaming has always sold less than consoles and consists mainly of old titles being resold and browser based games.

Perhaps you need to listen to you own quote about the needs of the many.

A Mac would be considerable to a high end PC and they're about the same price. A mac will be better than something bought in Wal-Mart because the Wal-Mart PC will have shit parts and will be subsidised by all the crap installed on it.

Yes you can clean it out and even re-install a clean copy of windows to ensure it works to its best but then you're paying with your time rather than money.

Tight-wads love stories like this to justify buying the cheapest shit out there but in general you'll find middle of the road stuff is the best. High-end stuff is always over priced and is more about brand than performance. Low-end is for people in trailers and will mean cheaper parts, less support or something.

Mid-range is basically a real high-end and aimed at normal people. Where as anything that is advertised as being high-end is for pompous jerks with more money than sense. These are the sort of people that don't care how long it lasts because they can buy 2 more to replace it.

Apple does sort of move into the high-end market but, as I said, a good PC that won't be out of date in 2 months will cost about the same. Apple will likely charge more and they realise that which is why they act like Nazis and like to have their systems closed up as much as possible. Having fewer pieces of crap software on your system and less hardware variety will lead to perceived quality increase despite using the same parts.

While it's the same parts inside, it's also what's on the outside that makes a difference and Apple has lead in design and usability. Even their old G4s had nice doors that are opened via a handle rather than some funky ass piece of metal that requires you to take the screws out and even then they can often be a pain to slide in and out of place or some big ass U shaped piece of metal that is more likely to cut you than go back on properly.

What you're paying for on average with a Mac is for them to employ more designers and usability experts than Acer will ever have and Nazi-like control. Sure they could subsidise the cost with shit-ware from Norton, McAffee, Real, etc and it would be cheaper and it would still have a superior design to a Wal-Mart PC but then it would run worse and there wouldn't be much point in moving to OSX and giving up all your Windows software if you're not getting the stability.

Unlike the case with Lexicon, I don't think Apple hides the fact their hardware is the same stuff inside and that their quality comes through other means which do work if you're willing to give up the freedom. It happens that I' not willing to give up the freedom so I've never owned a Mac. It's just too easy to build your own quality PC.

Again that is true but movies start out at £10 and quickly fall to anywhere from £5 to £2. Crap movies especially will end up at £2 quite quickly and that's the cost of a sandwich. Crap at that price is at least acceptable and falls in line more with the motto you get what you pay for. A crap game still costs £50 to £40 and might drop to £20 at some point.

Then if you factor in that the movie is more useable across various players and will not have to rely on years of emulation work to be converted to a digital format for use and archiving.

Basically crap movies don't feel like as much of a rip-off.
