Everyone knows that Linux has 0.000000000000000000001% marketshare soMS does nothing because of them. Microsoft only does things out of the kindness of their heart. That's the benefit of a monopoly. Companies don't have to use underhanded tactics to battle the competition and they can be ruled solely by their heart.
Unfortunately for C++ Java does dominate the web for serious applications and PHP for the small timers. Java is quite excellent which is why Google uses it for a lot of their stuff.
The only people sticking with C++ are those who think it makes them hardcore or they're too thick to learn more than one language.
Good honest people who get good out of their belief in God are ok. However it would be nice if Christians, Mulims, etc would start criticizing those who abuse religion. It would improve your view amongst people of other beliefs and besides, God is pretty much against people fucking about with his word so I think it would be in your best interest to those ruining his bible.
I actually appreciate the service provided by Slashdot so I click on the ads relevant to me. I could block them but it seems a bit silly to take money away from something you like.
It's a bit like shitting on your mom to reward her for making you dinner.
I can appreciate that people on source forge could get upset when conflicting ads show up on their projects but, with Filezilla, it's such a good product I wouldn't be swayed by an advertisement. People with good software need to have faith in their product and users.
Don't get me wrong, I like my EEE but Asus completely screwed up. The interface was poor, the updates were rubbish and in fact some of the updates would break it. It's quite possibly the worst Linux distro I've seen. I might as well buy a normal smallish laptop with an SSD as I still have to uninstall the OS and put my own on with an EEE.
In a way their Linux distro is more of a slap in the face for Linux than not using Linux.
I've had much better luck since putting my own instance of Ubuntu onto the machine which I prefer much more than I would Windows or that custom Xandros OS.
Difference being is that Kanye can't sing and write. Take away all his magical equipment and when he sings it sounds like a dogs raping each other.
It just shows how little music has advanced. In the 50's you'd get half a dozen takes on a song like Roll over Beethoven but each one was at least performed by someone with performing talent.
People don't even hide the fact they lip sync or can't sing as well as they appear to.
Milli Vanilli were shamed and run out of the music business for doing something that is standard practice.
MS needs to realise no one likes the Zune and they're happy with their iPods. They may not be perfect but people know MS makes rubbish and will only stick with their OS because they have to but they don't have to buy a Zune.
While I agree that QoS wasn't the best Bond film around. I feel it was a bit too judgemental. That and it didn't mention the opening song, which actually is the worst part of the film.
Like I said, I personally wouldn't remove it but I understand why they did because, unlike, To kill a mockingbird, people unfortunately are using to hold a bias against someone.
Again, I still wouldn't remove it, but they're looking at a bit of a PR nightmare in Japan and as far as I can tell the areas are still marked. It just doesn't have the legend to indicate what those areas mean. Personally I find that a bit silly because people can probably figure it out and the originals still exist and interface with google maps.
I think what they did is wise if they follow it up by talking to the Japanese government and trying to sort it out so the history is preserved on a larger site.
If you going to go down that route then why pronounce twat like twot when clearly there is no o in it and it clearly should have the same sound has hat?
If you say you speak English then you should say colour as that is the English spelling of the term. I think you'll find the over all population of this earth is also more likely to spell it the English way and not the American English way.
Where as American English spells it differently because one man, Noah Webster, held a grudge against the English or for whatever reason. But even then he wasn't able to stamp it out completely as English terminology is still used in places like Centre Hall, Pennsylvania.
It's only really been the advent of the computer that's had an effect on this purely because American companies will not properly localise software for the rest of the English speaking world.
Personally, I think both terms are correct but one is correct English and one is correct American English. Being both an American and British citizen, I have to use both on a regular basis and it doesn't bother me.
Likewise it may not matter to most Americans but anyone in the English language teaching field knows there is a big difference and products need to be clearly marked so people know whether it's American English or not as it will have an impact on the person learning. Because of this and the fact there are more British English speakers is why, again, I think software manufacturers should quit being so lazy and support both types better.
And it's not even correct since not all black people come from Africa and there are white people who are Africans.
Factor in the knowledge that some Jamaicans hate Africans and vice versa, the term can be quite offensive to some.
And as many people have pointed out it separates people and implies they're not as American as someone who's just American.
Political correct terms are just there to imply it's ok to divide people into groups but only with their fucked up terms. I you need to point out that someone is of another colour then just say black, brown, etc.
I think the British have it right by using the term black British and white British on forms. That way you're implying everyone is from one nation but you can determine the diversity of an area.
But if the Japanese made a car called Nigger-Mobile which they may be fine with and decide to sell it over in the US do you not think that is a bit silly?
The article stated:
Google has asked the owners of the woodblock print maps to remove the legend that identifies the ghetto with an old term, extremely offensive in modern usage, that translates loosely as 'scum town.
It sounds like they're not altering the maps just removing a bit of print from the legend that carries a word consider as offensive as nigger.
I don't necessarily agree with it but then I think there shouldn't be any issues with the word nigger and by making the word taboo it gives the word too much power. But I completely understand why a company may not want to have that word on their maps.
Both parents and schools should be teaching kids hands-on stuff as well as knowledge. Society can't function with everyone being a "knowledge worker" or with everyone being a manual labourer.
If you prepare kids with the basics for both then it will make it easier for them to decide what they want to do with their career and hopefully with a more balanced education, society won't end up with an excess of one type of work and a shortage of another.
I think attacks on Linux would increase and you're bound to get clowns who run their system as root all the time if given the chance.
However a huge chunk of the world run their servers with linux and open source alternatives. These sites include sites that hold credit card information so they would be obvious targets and their source code is available to all to find holes yet MS' offerings, like IIS, seem to have a higher ratio of problems.
So in the end I don't think Linux would actually reach Window's level of insecurity.
Bipedal robots would make perfect sense and would be the easiest way for robots to gain access to anywhere a human goes. A robot on tank treads, for instance, can not climb the side of a cliff. It could fly up the side but that would require more energy and its thrusters may not work under water so then it would need another device which would add more weight and require more energy to move its heavy ass around.
Personally I think they're saying that just because they can't come up with a good bipedal robot yet and therefore want to make people think it's not our lack of knowledge that holds us back.
Another benefit to creating a bipedal robot would be effectively giving people an increased life span as you could turn people into robocops. There is no reason not to come up with a bipedal robot.

Java and Javascript are about as similar as Star Trek and the Jello.
How about we not turn the internet into one big money pit. The current model works fine for those with something worth looking at.

Is the the sound a flying chair makes when it hit a developer's skull when Ballmer throws a fit about being owned online?
I'm doing fine with Ubuntu now. I certainly wouldn't install a virus magnet, like XP, onto it now. :P

It's a shame that most music is so dire.

I pull up this story about Microsoft vs Linux and Slashdot is showing me an advert about OpenSuse from Novell. Epic Sigh
The ad is OpenSolaris for me. I win!
Yep, that's the one. I think Alicia was a poor pick. Well the signing, in general, isn't that good, imo.

Don't forget Canadians as they spell it the correct way too and are more likely to run into an American who spells it color.

Is it only I that see ths advert for 'Clean you Mac' in the panel beside the summary?
(frosty piss)
Advertising wouldn't really work if it went by coincidence. Thanks to the advent of keywords it makes perfect sense for the advert to show up.
I see an advert for anti spyware which is probably triggered by the talk about privacy.

I would say Larry was right, at worst, it's just going to take a bit longer than he thought.
