Yes the biggest group of players will be children but that hasn't hurt Runescape. It's possibly the largest MMO game and it's developer, Jagex, seems to be doing quite fine with it's free and pay options.

That story is just about right for the Sun. Everyone can find Faslane but more importantly, there isn't enough detail to find a way to sneak onto the base, avoiding security and better information can probably be bought from the black market which terrorists will know about.

  5. facebook killed TV? on Why TV Lost · · Score: 5, Insightful

I more or less agree with the summary up until it claimed Facebook killed TV. Of all the reasons I don't watch TV, face book isn't on that list and I suspect that's the case for most.

I would agree with the idea that piracy did a lot more to kill TV but it's also people's lack of care about quality. I think both digital audio and video has been a bit of a step backwards in quality (for the most part) and that's a shame.

I'm sure companies like that because they can offer the same music in a better bit-rate later and people will buy the music again and not realise the quality may still be inferior to the CD they could have bought instead and they could have created their own DRM free mp3s. The same goes for video.

I don't see what the big deal is. You can download your document and have it online so there is no way you can be without it.

This little bug is nothing compared to all the crap we've had to go through with MS Office security issues.

Of course using google docs requires common sense. Like don't keep a documented list of your credit card details on it but it's not wise to do that on your desktop either.

While a lot of personal sites clearly don't put any effort into design, professional sites do and you won't do that in Drupal.

I've used DreamWaver from version 4 when they two versions up to CS3. Admittedly I've used each version less than the previous. I only used CS3 a few times because it's on my work PC. The biggest downside for me is that Dreamweaver doesn't run on Linux without using Wine and I rather not deal with DW under Wine. Plus DW does still feel a bit more designer oriented and I'm doing more serious development.

I personally have some issues with DreamWeaver. It's very good but for the cost it's not worth it compared to the competition for proper development. However I think web designers, mac users and other "trendy" people still love it.

Why would they need the installation disk? No disk was required to install IE7 on XP. You won't need a disk for IE9. So there is no reason a disk should be required for IE8.

It's a free program and they already do checks to see if you have a valid installation so why leave it on the system when it can be downloaded? In fact this would be better.

When someone wants to re-enabled IE again they're taken off to the IE site where they have to download the installer and get the latest version rather than some outdated version that's been sitting hidden away on their system.

Most everyone else downloading music/software aren't in their position so yes it does make a difference when they download it. The only stupid thing Lars potentially did was help seed the album to others.

I think it would have been better if Obama stuck with YouTube but if they can't then it's unfortunate but not allowing anyone to view the video goes against the idea of the internet, imo, and it's makes it worse for those tax payers who live elsewhere.

I doubt there are that many foreigners watching the US president's weekly address. I doubt there are that many Americans watching it either.

As far as the BBC not showing all of its content, I can't see why Americans can get so upset over it. It's one site and considering how many US sites block outsiders, people within the borders of the US get to see more of the internet than others so there is no reason to whine like babies because one site has gone and done something you're doing as well.

Its money only comes from UK tax payers so there is little room to justify letting everyone watch the content. Where as I'm an American and I live overseas. I still file my taxes so yes I have just as much right to watch the video. In fact I also got a stimulus check despite the fact there was little to no chance I'd spend it on the US economy. But I am still an American and tax payer so I get the same rights.
