Yeah because it's not like the Ecuador embassy would have good access to people within the respective governments. They're too busy drinking tequilla and riding donkeys around London.
Apple is suing samsung for violating their patents some of which are designs. My point is samsung isn't saying they're innocent but their excuse is that Apple did it first therefore it's ok. Which would be but they don't seem to be able to decide who they ripped off the idea from. First Sony and now some guy. It can't be both.
Despite the fact their tablet does actually have a different home screen they don't often show that because it looks more like an ipad when they show off all the icons. So, I'm finding it hard to sympathise with them because they have gone above and beyond to make an ipad-like tablet. Of course that was why they were singled out.
The whole idea that Apple sues anyone making round cornered tablets is ridiculous given that they all look like that and it's Samsung in courts over this.
First Sony and now this guy. The over all theme is still the same that Sumsung is copying the ipad but in their mind it's ok. I suggest they stick to trying to innovate rather than live off someone else's work.
It is a huge deal but combine that with the corruption, lack of public healthcare, complete lack of privacy, and growing religious extremism, I'd say the US needs to get itself back on track before considering it.
It's nice for someone who just wants to tinker but the problem is that you will get people who think they can do your job and sorry, you can't learn to be a good developer off something like this. It may start you on your path but if a manager were to do this course and start talking shit, that's when I'd hand in my notice and tell him to have fun with it.
I don't think there is a problem with Ruby itself or the core language's people. But people who focus on Rails admittedly from my experience, seem to be pricks to some degree.
Your stereotypical geek may be awkward with women and he may even be a misogynist but he's also probably not terribly social and keeps to himself and his group. I don't see anyone who I'd class a proper geek being the sort to grab someone's ass.
However some ruby on rails rockstar douche bag is almost required to be grabbing ass and treating women like shit in between going to the gym and downing red bull. But brogrammers aren't just a pita to women, real programmers hate them too. They're a cancer on our culture.
So they'll punish pirate sites but how do we know that's it? Even if it is just pirate sites now, we can pretty much assume it'll be something else next.
I think as long as Gabe is in charge things will go well. My only concern is he's a techie who is, let's be honest, pretty fat and around 50 now. History says he potentially doesn't have much time left which is very unfortunate for much more important reasons but also from a purely selfish point of view one could argue we can't honestly say where Valve will be even in a year.
Stema may be one of the better game services but you still don't *really* own all your games and can lose everything by them taking it away, going out of business or someone hacking your account.
Why can't people just sell software that's not locked into their own product?
Then why not ask people as part of a new install (first use)? I think just having it as a setting that you have to know it's there is pointless. Most people don't want to be tracked I suspect.
I agree to an extent about advertising. I actually think advertising is in a way getting worse. There are two scenarios usually. One is no matter what you like you get those ugly ads about weight loss, nicer teeth or younger skin (the one that looks like grandma is peeling off a layer of flesh) or you see an ad for a product that follows you around and it's not necessarily something you want. Sometimes I look at things at Amazon I have zero intention of buying (ie co-workers and me looking at stupid cat playtoys) and then that shit sticks with forever. It's a wasted effort and just annoys you as Amazon or others then push things on you that you don't want.
Perhaps they're relying too much on tracking people.
It's not enough to convert me to IE but of course it should be on by default. The only reason companies don't want that is because they know it'll never get switched on by most people.
I've been asked for those numbers to verify who I am from numerous companies over the years including a bank. If you provide 3 pieces of information (name, address and the last 4 digits) then a lot of people will just assume that you're legit.
As an Android owner I find it lacking and given I would be more likely to earn more money from developing apps for Rim handsets, I don't find it attractive as a developer either. It's only real upside is you can get Android phones for free on a contract where as you have to pay through the ass for an iphone even on a contract.
Look, I think he's far more intelligent than me (or anyone else here) and he has done great things but this idea that some people get that he's the Steve that's been thrown to the side, ignored and had all the real brains behind Apple isn't true. Geeks are sometimes worse than hipsters when it comes to being obsessive about hating on anything remotely popular and holding anything not popular in high regard.
He is intelligent but that doesn't mean everything that comes out of his mouth is the word of god.
The US wants him and unfortunately the UK doesn't have the balls to stand up to the US.

Samsung's problem is that they do go out of their way to make things look like Apple stuff. Even their connectors look the same. http://cdn.mactrast.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/Samsung-Apple-Cable-Copy.jpg
And even things like using Apple's icons for their shop displays. http://obamapacman.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/Samsung-Mobile-Italy-store-copies-Apple-App-Store-Safari-Icons-Euronics-Centro-Sicilia.jpg

Nah, I'm cool with just having your mom.

No doubt they'll be proposing web-drectx which they'll insist is better than webgl.
So they'll punish pirate sites but how do we know that's it? Even if it is just pirate sites now, we can pretty much assume it'll be something else next.
So Yegge can only see the world in a black and white view? Someone should explain to him the world isn't binary.
Oh and tell him no one outside of Google uses Google+.
My guess most of the people they asked are people too fat to get out of their trailer let alone fly so why ask them?
It's not really anything special now, imo. It used to be one of the best but everyone caught up while textmate sat still.
That's not hard consider Textmate releases came to a standstill ages ago.

Possibly but MS have invested in FB so why would they want to damage their profits?

There will be a Youtube app provided by Google if you had read it. Surely that's better than some half hearted effort by Apple.
You can encrypt everything you upload to the internet for back-up too. They can look at it but they're not going to do much with it.
