Last time I went and customised a laptop to have everything my macbook pro like a lit keyboard and bluetooth (yes Dell considered that an extra) it was reach the same price. Once I would buy the same sized SSD from another company to replace the hard drive it would have cost the same if not more and it still would have been in a shitty plastic case rather than a nice aluminium case that is dead silent and cool something you won't get from a dell.

I'm also willing to put good money it won't run as long as the macbook on its battery.

    Incorrect.

You still have to account for people who litter or simply refuse to recycle. Glass will be around for decades. Corn based plastic decomposes very quickly compared to the other options (anywhere from weeks to 3 mosts I believe)

Corn plastic is cleaner to produce than normal plastic and supposedly does not give off all the gas that normal plastic gives off onto foods.

I don't believe that. I suspect it's just poor countries who get more benefit recycling bottles rather than shipping lighter plastic bottles. For the rest of us, we generally throw stuff away when we shouldn't so there isn't much point to using glass bottles.

At least the corn based ones biodegrade quite quickly.

I do think if you have an account on something like Facebook that when you close it that data should go away. It's part of a service you're not using. But if someone saved that data then tough shit.

They're doing it on the iOS, I suspect because the code is useless on the iOS and you aren't meant to build your own apps so it's sort of pointless. But the source code has a use on OS X so GPL'ed software is ok and you can find GPL'ed apps or apps that would break the ToS in other ways if they were iOS apps.

There are a lot of people on here making assumptions about the process without having any experience or knowledge of the Mac Apple store and iOS app store.

  15. Re:Limited problem. on Open Source Licensing and the App Store Model · · Score: 1

Sure for the iOS but the Mac Store has plenty of software that works for external code and it has GPL'ed software from companies other than Apple. In the case of the game Lugaru HD even when there was controversy (someone placed the game on there but they weren't the original developer) that version was removed but the original developer was still allowed to sell their game on the Mac App Store. MPlayerX is a GPl'ed media player and one of the top apps in its category on the Mac store.

The iOS and and Mac app stores are completely different from each other.

  16. Re:What about Xcode? on Open Source Licensing and the App Store Model · · Score: 1

It's because it was for the iOS. The Mac App store has GPL software. Lugaru HD is GPL and on the Mac App Store. VLC was on the iOS app store and I believe as mentioned was ok until someone complained.

The Mac Store is much more free than the iOS one. For starters you can have IDEs and software that accepts add-ons and other code from 3rd party sources.

The Mac store I suspect has different rules than the iOS store. After all the Mac store has loads of IDEs but there are none on the iOS.

Lugaru HD is on the Mac App store which is a game whose source is released under the GPL.

It's not that the person with more experience is dumber but that they have different priorities or have backed themselves into a corner. For instance with cars again. It's not that Americans can't design equal or superior cars it's just that they made something well that eventually became expensive and useless for many people and when they decided to start doing what Japan was doing that meant they were the ones in new territory and it was Japan that had more experience even if the US had more experience with cars in general.

If China makes a CPU that performs as well or nearly as well but it, for instance, uses a fraction of the energy then you may find a lot of data centres jumping on board. Would Intel or AMD be able to do the same in time? Maybe but it may also mean creating a line of CPUs that aren't compatible with existing systems and Windows. It would have to do well in the same market because they couldn't recoupe the cost elsewhere or they'd also have to build something on top to allow for legacy support which can make them more expensive.

That will put them at a disadvantage even if they're as smart or smarter than their Chinese counterparts.
