Really, they need to be more tight lipped. One of Apple's points is that they don't leak, so they don't lose sales "waiting". You can't "go back" and get money customers didn't spend this quarter... It's gone. People that wait generally didn't keep the money handy, so they don't buy "more".
Apple is already citing that as a reason for diminished quarter... Because everybody KNOWS we get a new iPhone, iPad, iPod each year.
The obvious question is that if Surface 1.0 isn't released, why are they working on 2.0? Microsoft hasn't released ANY Surface yet... Stop assuming anybody will care about the NEXT one... Except it's not VAGUE. Everyone brings up previous phones, but they had vastly different UI from iPhone. One iPhone came out then Samsung is copying icons, behaviors, etc. even Google substantially changed Android to "act" like iPhone in many of the small things.
Fundamentally, your engineers can't take notes on somebody else's product and those same ones do implementation. They picked similar colors for icons (the previous phones has vastly different ones) they even copied the style of the BOX. Samsung totally KIRF'd it.
But Bing is being "leveraged" by Microsoft, Google is putting more resources into Android (and pushing Apple away). That leaves Yahoo as the biggest "independent" all-purpose location now. They could make a good place for themselves getting distance for their communities from all three fighting OS factions.

I think that's the plan. To wind up a Live CD that will work on "most" PCs and load straight to Steam. Treat the whole PC as a "console". Maybe install an image space on local drive to speed things up. "Linux" has had the pieces, just nobody could really do the QA because nobody with a trove of GAMES LICENSED TO GO had skin in the game. WINE is good enough for games, if somebody had reason to get devs to make their games a little more friendly to WINE.
The key is that Steam has GAMES. Games they need to sell. THEY can get the MAKERS of the games to fix the 1% of show stopping bugs keeping drivers and WINE from working on "most" PCs.
But that model of phone is public knowledge. You can google a spec sheet fairly quickly. Samsung is trying to add PRIVATE design and engineering docs to the case. Notes and dates of ideas are not common knowledge.

About 20% are the M&A guys, the ambulance chasers, divorces, etc. the "we'll make it legal" lawyers. Gates father was partner in such a firm, with a stake in Microsoft doing well, so you can see how they gave the advice the client wanted to here and not based on the law.
