    What winner take all approach? You mean like how Intel and Microsoft and even IBM colluded to shut Apple out of its small slice of pie using PowerPC for 2 DECADES?

    Apple has cash to burn... If they wanna buy companies to burn um down that's how capitalism works!

      I'm surprised Steve was as peaceful at the end as he was... Given that kind of money. I'd buy rival CEO's homes from the banks just to burn um down, let alone their companies.

    They have already done that with iPhones. We got marvelous FUD a whole back that Apple's Active Sync on iphones wasn't up to Microsoft's standards because it didn't properly access Exchange.... (And yes, I'm fully aware Apple's implementation is built under a decades old cross-license with Microsoft)

    Google is going to find itself in the same boat Apple did because Samsung does not play nice with their business partners.

    Remember its Samsung that wouldn't play nice with Apple inspite of a large portion of the BOM cost from every iphone going right back into SAMSUNG's pockets. (As Samsung makes the A-series chips and storage chips used).

    They have already shown they will pick fights against their CUSTOMERS, lets see how long they get along with Google before they pull out of the Android software group and be "leechers" like Amazon or Barnes and Nobel with their own custom Android spin and store... If they think they have enough market share, I can see them pushing Google aside because they have a lot less $$$ attached to Google than Apple.

    bingo. if you've seen some of the crazy acrobatic stuff being done with quad copters over on TED that is using several remote PCs and remote control. The programming could probably all be packed into one of these boards and built right into each copter.

    It's a FACT that the Earth goes thru a 26,000 year wobble cycle on its Axis that directly affects climate. There are big dips and little dips...

    Honestly, we need to stop worrying about Man changing climate, and just accept that it WILL happen, just like the mini-ice ace in the early AD 100's.

    We are at an interesting scientific place to watch it happen, but not really do much more than be along for the ride.

    Truth is that for decades flying has been packed with incumbents not moving out. In 2002 if you went to a recruiter and wanted to fly you'd be laughed at... The best enlisted folks would ever get is cargo planes anyway. To fly fighters, you have to be an officer...it's not like the old days where just anybody could try out. And who is going to Military Academy (Annapolis, West Point, Colorado Springs) for a dead-end airline career?

    Not to mention the physical attributes are outright bigoted... They haven't updated planes from 5'8" pilots (MAX HEIGHT) in decades, which means your High School average sports star doesn't even get asked. And that's before the other physical exclusions...

    They've been elitist brats for 40 years and there's nobody left to play in their club. Besides, drones are where it's at and the skills favor geeks, not jocks.

    The response of increasing arms is not proportional to FACTS. While small areas of big cities are worse, he rest if the country is more peaceful.. And THAT is where SWAT is rolling out, where it was never nerves before.

    As for "I don't do anything bad" all it takes is somebody on yhe internet getting your address and calling up the cops at 3am that you have a gun to your wife's head... SWAT will be there in 20 minutes to blow you away. The whole point of the article is that half the people didn't do wrong or didn't do wrong past expectation of a speeding ticket.

    A little 3am knock and bash really helps normal people feel bad about their parking tickets.

    The best use of the situation is SWATing by far. In LA you can just about dial-a-murder if you call 911 screaming and crying with somebodies address you want done in. Somebody just has to start picking obscure relatives of police that wont get flagged.

    It's about TERROR and the raid being punishment.

    Just be ready for the drone to shoot back in self defense. Any drones will have FAA approval which makes shooting at them equivalent to shooting at manned aero planes... And the Feds will be BEGGING to use that argument in court on somebody and throw them in jail forever.

    The point is that the LEGAL means of transporting a firearm is that it MUST be locked up and the TSA will only allow special inspections, not the usual thuggies.

    You can't just "show up" obviously, buy if you have tens of thousands of dollars of equipment, filing extra paperwork to ensure its safety makes sense.

    Until the investigate you for transporting guns on a regular basis!

    He had to "restore faith" that the President was a good person after Nixon totally trashed the office. In THAT he succeeded. The situation with hostages was a sycophant military to Republicans that couldn't do their jobs. while at the same time Iranians were working with Reagan's people secretly and illegally to give him the election.

    Knowing what we know now, both Nixon and Reagan committed Capital crimes before they were even sworn into office. Yet somehow Carter was a bad one?

    But YOU cannot PROVE you have been damaged. NOBODY can prove damages because the NSA does not use the collected data in actual criminal cases. The NSA operated primarily on MILITARY cases involving spies and terrorism... Cases where the solution is simply shooting the enemy while they committ the crime.

    The POTENTIAL IS VAST to misuse their spying... But RIGHT NOW there is zero evidence in the public eye that a court can rule on.

    It doesn't matter if Snowden was on the system spying on everyone... Nothing he has proves a chain of evidence... Leading to a corrupt JUDICIAL proceeding. A court can only JUDGE if material is applicable to CRIMINAL COURT PROCEEDINGS or not. The legal precedent from WW1 and WW2 clearly ALLOWS the government to monitor for enemy communications and absorb data like a sponge. CONGRESS has clearly provided funding for hardware to do that... Two out of three branches are colluding and you're stuck.

    The key item is CRIMINAL COURT PROCEEDINGS. That is ALL USA courts get to rule on. And the EFF will never find the illegally gathered NSA data actually USED in a criminal chain of evidence. So there's never going to be a case. The US system is PURELY adversarial at he federal level.. Without an IDENTIFIABLE WRONGDOING to SOMEONE the EFF has no grounds for a case. Not to mention lack of a VALID government official target of the suit that does not have implicit permission from Executive Branch to perform collection.

    There is no point to that. All ICANN does is provide a "phone book" service. And it gives the individual countries governments their own TLD first to assign as they please.

    The only "policing" ICANN does is over who gets to have names in the "phone book". Powerful as that is, you can connect to all the services perfectly fine with just a "phone number" (IP address).

    Every country is free to tell their telco to throw up whatever extra rules they want... Many block ALL sites not in their TLD and the big companies have to buy a name from them and operate in their country... But there are always "holes" because the Internet is international.. There are no "Internet laws" and no body to police them even if there were.

    I've had accounts on both for years, just to be sociable and not be a digital hermit, but never felt any particular need to update them for fans (or even family) Like ever.

    Because more adult people feel like him, they started tying everything to "online identity" to grab more data. I find the current practice of tying other services to the big 4 revolting especially when they start trying to cross populate your Slashdot posts on your twitter feed or Facebook... NOBODY CARES about my Slashdot posts on facebook, certainly not my family, and I certainly don't appreciate features enabled without proper notification.

    That was the only thing I didn't like about Skyfall, that they tried to make the character actually named "Bond".

    Much like Doctor Who, I always pictured the change in Bonds with a new agent picking up the 007 super spy slot (with the name to keep up the mystique) when the previous "retired" rather than always being the same person.

    According to Zimmerman's "911" call, Martin had managed to hide from Zimmerman following him so Zimmerman stopped, and got out of the truck to look for him.

    HIDING is pretty non-aggressive... Till he decided if Zimmerman was going to find him or not. It was up to Zimmerman to stop looking for the kid because he didn't want to be talked to... And had not committed any crime to that point that evening.

    Zimmerman is not POLICE he had no legal right to pursue Martin, with a gun, on the public street after Martin did not want to be found. His only legal option was to drive away.

    EVERY ACTION after that is Zimmerman's fault as he was not in danger and had deterred any criminal activity that night. So stupidity plus dead person equal manslaughter.

    "Stand your ground" actually DOES mean you have the right to attack first after being provoked. In your house it means you can just shoot somebody robbing you. on the street it means you dont have to "ask" to start a fight if you are threatened. Zimmerman was clearly "provoking" because he stopped, and armed, to look for Martin after he could not find him. He even called to report to the police... It was a setup to get to shoot somebody.

    Had Martin waited another minute Zimmerman might have drive off... But Zimmerman was HUNTING him, far past a citizens "right" to community service.

    The REAL question is what did Zimmerman THINK was going to happen when shot, fat him actually found tall fit kid? Even "citizens arrest" gives you no right to DETAIN somebody by FORCE. Zimmerman KNEW what was going to happen because he brought a GUN.

    If Martin was hidden why didn't Zimmerman drive away? Continuing to follow Martin along the toad with his truck is "menacing".

    Martin clearly HID so Zimmerman would move on. So Martin tried to LAWFULLY RETREAT from supposed danger. At that point, it doesn't matter if Martin robbed a bank, Zimmerman is not a POLICEMAN and had no right to pursue any suspect.

    Martin is dead, Zimmerman should be in jail.

    If Zimmerman would have stayed down, and stopped trying to get up to his murder truck Martin would have stopped punching.

    But as Martin BELIEVED he needed to defend HIMSELF FIRST he was right to use deadly force just like Zimmerman. The difference is that Zimmerman STARTED the ordeal behind the wheel of DEADLY force, and packed a gun. Do it's "more than 50%" Zimmermans fault Martin is dead.

    In many other states, Zimmermam was guilty of murder2 the minute he tried to pursue Martin CARRYING deadly force.
