I wonder if they could already be indoctrinated by the time they're six or so.
BTW, I've heard a saying of some Girl Scout troops, "too much doily-making and not enough camping" (the way that statement was given, and common sense, implies that there are some out there that aren't, just sayin'.)
Do you know which Jews made it through the Holocaust unscathed? It was the ones that joined up with the Nazis as soldiers and police. Through their complicity, these Jews were responsible for the millions that were slaughtered in the camps.
They are doing much better today with Obama's corporate welfare for megabanks and other mismanaged giant corporations. These are swallowing up billions of borrowed money which the next generation will have to pay. The amount of money that the so-called welfare queens swallow up is chicken feed in comparison.
That's exactly what I fear is going on with "OMG Welfare Queen" type attacks...to distract from the much larger corporate-welfare situation, whether Obamaesque bailouts or something else.
I've seen most episodes, I typically find them hilarious - actual literal LOLing.:) Sometimes, the gross social incompetence of the characters is frustrating to watch, but that's part due to painful-because-some-of-it-is-true.
I don't think their comic book habit makes them look like fools - other aspects of the characters seem to accomplish that, such as Sheldon's oft-manifested general OCD/asshole temperament
If you had kept the post to just the first sentence, you could have gotten a BS "informative" mod too...now here's hoping you get a real informative mod at least, for the 2nd paragraph...
Heh, my "computer desk" is an old dining-room table, lugged down to the basement after we got a new table for the actual dining room. Sure, it isn't 50s steel, but it's certainly more durable than your average pressboard thing.
The table definitely could tolerate me standing on it if the non-computer part wasn't covered with assorted junk:D
"Of course, he also said our computer labs were obsolete"
I never bought into this idea either.:)
I'm a laptop owner who still likes using the campus labs
Sure, an average laptop isn't an obscene cost relative to college in general, but a top-of-the-line desktop is gonna beat that laptop in performance. Having such souped-up laptops rather changes the cost metrics, eh?
Some of the horsepower is really useful, for heavy-duty scientific-data analysis or something. In that case, the desktops are needed. Even if those desktops are being used for less-demanding tasks at any particular time, the performance boost is still appreciated, to be honest.
Large WiFi networks seem to run into random connection issues even if the network is built decently (not to mention issues on the laptop end)
Having several students per lab computer has got to help with costs, as well as standardization/economies of scale
Also, I simply prefer the desktop form factor (no trackpads, better keyboard & monitor distance & angle)
Finally, not having to carry the laptop around is useful, especially if you have a normal or over-sized one and/or need to be carrying a lot of other stuff
since there are a smaller amount of vegetarians, not as much by way of economies of scale, perhaps.
Most vegetarians, AFAIK, see it as a moral objective, one that you wouldn't compromise on to save a few bucks on burger patties. So, increased demand level there.
My copy of Railroad Tycoon II for Linux wasn't working at all, on Ubuntu 8.04, obviously 2.6.something [I did try Ubuntu forums, they didn't have a working answer either]. Well, at least I won't bother on 9.04 either...
Since that didn't work, I visited a certain Swedish website for the Windows version, and that worked just fine on my XP box.
general welfare (obvious), commerce regulation, and defense (indirect security benefit to gov't systems, and some protection against foreign-enemy systems) are all plausible Constitutional explanations, though I don't like overblown invocations of the Defense Clause
Well, *I* am so tired of people using strict Constitutional interpretation as an excuse for not doing something that they don't feel like supporting, and I worry that their interpretation being selective...
The OP definitely has a point about positive externalities being created by more people having security software; proper subsidization is *exactly* the way to clear that up IMHO, externalities are the main problem with a pure laissez-faire market structure
in practicality, the idea is limited (in large part due to PEBKAC issues and imperfections in AV software), but the idea seems quite plausible both on practical grounds and on legal grounds
My university's lab printers are for the most part HP LaserJets, model number 4200 or 9100 or something. How do they rank in your scale?
As I investigated the environmental impact of our computer-lab printing for a recent class (last quarter), the issue is still fresh in my mind, and your comment reminded me of that line of work.

Are you thinking of these?

Took about *one* hour. :)

Alfred Nobel: right on Mutually Assured Destruction, but 50 years early and wrong weapon?
Combined with legit civil-engineering use of such explosives, it makes sense
...Can't seem to find an authentic/full copy of the decision itself, only news stories that relate to it.

Does Rajesh Koothrappali-when-intoxicated count? :)
One place I know of mainly has MTG, D&D, Warhammer, et cetera.
Admittedly, I haven't visited any of the others around here

Modern RIAA music lyrics use *at least* *five* letters.

Freudian slip about the Department of Offense?

Also means "same"
By that definition, the word "homosexual" is right on target in terms of vocabulary

Tax the junk food too, make money on the weed AND the munchies. :)
Surprised that this is on a real news site and not The Onion. :(
Indeed, I'm still fairly chubby, but I've found that when I'm doing whatever-it-is on the computer I'm often not stopping for munchies as much.
So, how's Anderson v. Sagdiyev coming along in the court system?
CV-6!
Now get offa my lawn!
(Okay, I'm a 19yo sorta-pacifist, but I always wanted to type that...)
