    I'm going to go ahead and surmise that other carriers are behind this attack. What else explains the FTC not going after AT&T and Verizon for equally bad and worse stuff? T-Mobile has explicitly halted this practice.

    RB for Wii is a joke, no online, no DLC. You get it all and much more with GHWT. I don't understand Harmonix's decision to gimp the Wii version of RB. I guess they are big 360 supporters... seems to be a poor choice of platform when the Wii version of GH outsold everything else.

    Was it pleasant? No. Was it a big deal? Not really. I figure if the US wants to throw me in Guantanamo Bay, them having my fingerprints is the least of my problems.

    So if the US does it, why not Japan?

    Probably the intent is to be liberal. As long as you are not breaking the law or have malicious intent, you are free to use it as you wish. If you raise the issue perhaps they can make this clearer, there seem to be a lot of venues for feedback including a dedicated forum. *shrugs*

    How noisy is it? For me it's far more important that a hard drive be quiet and well-behaved than it be fast. From what I remember from James Bond and other movies, lasers are pretty damn loud.

    Isn't this the same company whose name is virtually synonymous with music piracy? AFAIK these are the guys who invented the DRM-free MP3 format which is now a major enabling factor for music piracy in the US. The RIAA (and by consequence the US government) must hate these guys, but now provoking the enemity of the German secret police is just asking for it.

    In standby mode the fan is off but the machine is still working, so generates heat. It's by design and I don't like it. So I have WiiConnect24 activated, but not when it is off. Weather channel should still work.

    Right. Turn it off and set it to standby then come back and tell me how much heat it generates. :)

    When it's on, the fan cools it down. When it's on standby the fan is off but the machine is still working so generating heat. When it's off then there is no fan and no heat.

    I don't want my machine to be permanently WiiConnect24 anyway.

    Anyone else have problems with the Wii forecast channel? It claims WiiConnect24 is off, but I have it on although WiiConnect24 Standby mode is off because it overheats the box. If I turn on Standby mode it works, but why does it have to be on when WiiConnect24 is already activated?

    You are conveniently forgetting that this Nat Friedman was at the forefront of this deal. If anyone is part of this community, it's Nat. Need I tell you what Nat has done for GNOME? If anyone represents the community it is Nat and I am sure Miguel de Icaza was not far behind him in his support. By these attacks on Novell, you are attacking the community itself and this will likely lead to splintering it.

    Besides, if you feel so strongly that Novell has acted in bad faith, why don't you just sue them instead of running yet another useless petition which is not likely to accomplish anything at all?
