The answer to this question might seem obvious, however it's not.
Not only did Debian purge all GPL'ed KDE code from their distribution but they also purged all LGPL'ed code!
Yes, that's right, some of the most important and most useful KDE code is LGPL'ed, yet a Debian developer filed a "fatal" bug report against this code and it was subsequently purged. Many people never realized this.
This issue has been brought up SEVERAL times with Debian, so it is not something that has simply been overlooked. It's something that is being ignored and I can only guess at the true reasons and motivations involved.
As a user, for me Java applications are second-rate applications. The bottom line is that on my computer and OS of choice they slow and buggy as hell. That is my perception as a user, and until that problem is addressed, really, who cares what the numbers say?
Apple should not be praised for this.

Who was responsible for the decision to make iMovie arbitrarily unavailable? Apple.
Who uses a proprietary, non-supported, non-compatible video format that "breaks the web" for a good few of us? Apple.

Fine so Apple fixes gaff number 1 by "releasing" iMovie. BFD. They made an arbitrary, dumb decision then they pretend to make better of it. Pure marketing BS from start to end. Who needs that?
It's hardly a revolutionary move. On the other hand, if they had made iMovie Open Source OR switched to an Open, Compatible, Supported movie format OR released the specs to QT4, now THAT would have been news.
This site is beautifully presented, with some beautiful screenshots and entertaining writing. I believe nitehorse is responsible, so: Good job!

As someone who uses Potato source packages on Slink, I can say that the Debian upgrade path leaves much to be desired.
Frequently rebuilding a source package requires all kinds of ungainly hacks to work, or even just to maintain consistency.
Why don't I upgrade to Potato you ask? Simply because I run production systems (including Oracle, etc) and I absolutely abhor the prospect of Yet Another Libc breakage.
You're a web developer so I take it you know better, but I'm a web USER so may I state the obvious? The answer is easy. Do not use Style Sheets and your panties will not get in a bunch and nor will those of your USERS.
Could someone statically link M12 against glib2.1 and make it available? I still run glibc2.0 and would not like to break all my applications by upgrading. Thanks
It strikes me that BSDers have a much different attitude towards windows than Linuxers. I've seen this among my own circle of acquantainces as well as on newsgroups/mailing lists, etc.
Basically, BSDers promote BSD on the server and Windows (or Mac) on the desktop. They realize and accept that Windows is good on the desktop and resign themselves to the fact that BSD will never be able to compete in that area.
Linuxers on the other hand, tend to take the Linux everywhere philosophy and only use Windows with much bitching and moaning (sometimes hypocritically).
Wouldn't be interesting if Microsoft adopted the BSD attitude though?
I noticed the above was moderated down. Let me say this: I WILL NEVER SAY WHAT THE MODERATORS WANT ME TO SAY. I will speak my own mind and not give a FUCK for what moderators think.
I might agree with you, except that I strongly object to your implicit insults towards gays and men with "small" penises. *that* was uncalled for, but you are right that Quebec is one of the more braindamaged provinces of Canada - I live here.
I might also add that I'm personally quite happy about the non-smoking laws as I quite hate cigarette/cigar smoke.
You should check your information. kdelibs was/is in the Debian incoming queue for SEVERAL months. It's probably still there for all we know.

Mind you, as a developer, I love Java.
Some of the best anime I've ever seen is available from stile.
Woohoo! Great news. Finally I can run netscape-dyn.
Thanks, Open Group!

Just my 2 cents.

Slashdot extrans ate up my HTML. Now I know what that means.
Someone put up a response to the article, http://apps.cx/motifisdead.html

This is not a new desktop. This is yet another GNOME application. It seems to be like KFM.
Good one, guys.

I understand you're excited and got your panties in a bunch and all that, but I must point out that your opinion on 2 doesn't sound well-reasoned.
Warez spreads like wildfire too, this doesn't make it any more legal or illegal than it already is.
I hope you complained about ths MS-Word format nonsense. Or do you run Windows? I believe not, since you're fighting to port DVD to Linux.

Does your website work in Netscape or IE 3.0? That's the litmus test really, and all that matters. Hope this helps.
I installed KRASH and noticed that konqueror has an Up arrow that brings you up one directory in the hierarchy. Pretty nifty.

Very nice. Thanks, that's a keeper.

How the fuck did you get the formatting so nice? Thanks.

Not to be rude, but can someone give the short version of this so that I can figure out what the fuck he's talking about?
As far as I can see this is just another weakly disguised attempt to write something that seems intelligible just to gain more Karma.
(and yes, feel free to moderate this down)
