We don't see kittens lined up in neat rows as an old geezer of a cat stands a chalkboard lecturing about mouse anatomy and approach angles and attack vectors. That's not how they do it! They learn by doing, by playing.
And the point he seems to miss is that, if cats could learn by thinking they would be the dominant species in the planet.
Tell me again who's the real winner when it takes a 5 billion dollar nuclear aircraft carrier to deploy a 20 million dollar plane flown by a pilot with a million dollar education, dropping a ten thousand dollar bomb just to kill some Iraqi kid hiding in a hole with a $20 russian surplus rifle?
I shudder to think what will happen if the real guy finds out. I for one know that if my pics were put up on the net - I would certainly get very mad, very pissed and would sue this guy to kingdom come.
I agree that it was not a nice thing to do, but I want to comment the other part of your post.
Some of you seem to think "I'll sue you" is a devastating threat. Maybe in the USA, but in my part of the world, you have to sue and WIN. If you don't, you pay the other guy's legal costs, and look like an idiot.
I can't see any grounds for legal action in this case, but maybe I'm wrong. Please enlighten me.
And I'll call bull on that. Except maybe if you're talking China or ex-USSR where they can't even afford to pay hundreds of bucks for a text editor or 40 bucks for a game.
Well, I'm posting from South America, and I don't know ANYBODY who has paid for MS s***t. And I mean business, government offices, whatever. A lot of these people can afford to buy legit copys, but down here nobody, and I mean NOBODY pays for software.
I myself am posting from a MDK 10 Official bought from the local equivalent of CheapBytes.
Quite frankly, the American issues you care about are only a small fraction of the ones I care about. Taxes, school vouchers, Social Security reform, healthcare, tort reform, and judicial appointments matter to me.
I suppose some Germans voted for Hitler because they wanted more autobahns, but their priorities were as confused as yours.
lately I sense that "open-sourcing" is more an attempt of big companies to get some work done for free and get some PR at the same time, BUT with little real use to the community as GPL'ing the code would provide. Am I right?
Yes, you're right.
Some "big companies" think they're cool and are doing the OSS commuity a great favor "kind-of-open-sourcing" some code, but they're deluding themselves.
The loss of critical Microsoft executives would probably have much the effect that the death of Eva Peron had on Peronist Argentina than the death of Julius Caesar had on Rome.
Daniel, I'm an Argentinian, and I'm honestly curious:
Is this opinion based just on the movie, or did you dig the facts a little?
DRM is IMPOSSIBLE. The sooner DRM as a concept is abandoned alltogether the better off we will all be. Every type of electronic copy protection I can think of in the last 30 years has FAILED.
I absolutely agree, but you're understating the stupidity of it all. In the case of books, DRM is not only ridiculous, it's impossible. After all, you can TYPE it, for God's sake!
Reading comments here one would think that typing a book is a gargantuan effort, forgetting that it's being done right now by thousands of secretaries and typists.
If you are serious, you can type a novel in a couple of days, save it as TXT and share with your 9.999 closest friends.
DMR for books works only for texts that are so bad that nobody is willing to spend a little time typing them.
Because the Brits, backstabbing bastards as always, really did evacuate their army without warning the French. With its left flank mysteriously gone, the French Army was overrun quickly and attacked from behind. What could they have done except surrender?
The Brits are good at many things, but really great at one: rewriting history, in order to appropiate merit and shift blame.
My guess is they don't. Their Web browser is a loss leader for a stable of very specialised browser that bring the money in.
I'm posting this from Opera 7.5 beta, but the last Opera I've paid for was 3.52. I'm always wondering why they don't just make it free (as in beer), and gain huge marketshare. After all, once upon a time Opera was hands down the best browser out there, but now Mozilla and Konqui are almost there.

Maybe you're right (I think you're not), but people get particularly annoyed when you mispell their country's name.
I found your post 99% right, take my correction as a collaboration.
BTW I'm not Colombian, just a native Spanish speaker.
Cheers,
Carlos César
lets start fires in the jungles of columbia
Sure, we might kill a whole bunch of columbians, but... hey... they are columbians, not people right?
Carp, I agree with your post but why, oh why you people can't grasp that the country is called Colombia, with an "O", and the people are Colombians.
Cheers,
Carlos

If this would be good or bad, is opinable.

Big, big mistake.
Try +2, with a -3 modifier for Funny.

Calling Bush Hitler is not only Hyperbole, it is also a disservice.
A disservice to Hitler, who, even if being a monster, was at least intelligent.
Quite frankly, the American issues you care about are only a small fraction of the ones I care about. Taxes, school vouchers, Social Security reform, healthcare, tort reform, and judicial appointments matter to me.

Does Johnathan not get it, or is he playing the FUD game?
A little of both, I guess...

Maybe the incentive to get filthy rich is what's needed in order to get the byproducts that benefit the world as a whole... eventually?
Don't know, just pondering.
Maybe "filthy" has a different meaning for you, but for the rest of the world it means, well, "filthy".

Carlos Cesar

Has Sun dropped off the face of the planet?
Not yet, the operative word being "yet".

I don't want to live in a world where everyone uses Linux.
I hope you're doing well in your astronaut courses, because in a few years...

Ok, if you're a Brit you might have a point.
No, he doesn't.

This post should be +5 Insightful
I'm out of moderation points, but I like your wit.

Who's the greater fool, KB with his million dollars in book revenue or the people who laugh at him on
The only way KB is going to get 1M from book sales (not counting MSFT's check) is by posing like the goatse.cx guy in the cover.

Hey, built in wired/wireless printing for consumers, 8 ink printing, grayscale cartridges, here for more [slashdot.org]
Take that innovation.
Let me see...

2) Your real name is Carly.
