um.. no. that is folding and makes what is sometimes called 'Water{ed} Steel' Damascus was made by using two different kinds of steel folded together not just one kind of steel folded over and over.
The market could well shift so that one becomes the new monopoly. But does that meen we should do nothing? If it happens {and it could} then it can be delt with at that time. No fix will ever be perfect it's not posible to cover every posibility, we simply have to try for the resolution that is most likely to help and then see how it falls. If it goes bad then we can look at other ways of fixing it but no matter how you look at it now something needs to be done and this is the best I can think of.
Good point. how ever just how meny people would buy a distro of winXX that was more confusing? {come to think of it... I'm not sure I want to know...} But the idea is that they would have to make things that were useable on other versions and platforms or risk losing thier market to the distro that did. Would you want to market an app that only works with/your/ version if the other guy was making apps that would work with his and yours? You could try.. but guess who would sell more? He has two markets where you lock your self to only one.
Acording to the MS offer the 'Operating Systems Business' department will have full rights to the apps department code with out paying anything. They are also forbiden from shairing thier code with the apps side.. hmm.. lets look at this for a momment. Operating Systems Business gets everything for free... and is alowed to modify it as they wish.. the Apps folks get nothing {literaly}. How long do you think the Apps folks will be around? and MS states quiet clearly that 'Since the Operating Systems Business and the Applications Business posited by the government do not currently exist, Microsoft should not be enjoined to maintain them as "economically viable businesses."' Any one else see the way that will go?
I have no idea, but on the plus side they would be fighting each other quite a bit more and would likely have a/much/ harder time taking over. Each of the people that ends up incharge will want to be the one to make it... and I don't see them treating each other any differently then they treat the rest of us as soon as they realize that each other company is taking away some of the profits they could have.
The way i see it they aren't removing a monopoly.. they are simply breaking it in to two or three of them. Only one of then will be able to work on the operating system.. where is the competition in that? one company one op sys.. plus in the MS offer {corect me if I am wrong} it seems that the one that handles the 'Operating Systems Business' also gets full rights to everything apps side does but is not alowed to give anything to the apps department... from what I can see the only thing they drop is IE and nothing else. This seems to me to be the same as the phone breakup.. sure... it helped the long distence stuff... but who has any choice in the local? it's still a monopoly.. there is no choice. I don't see this as any different. IMHO they should split them into two or three companies that can do the same things. That way if they want to survive they will have to compete, it becomes in thier own best intrest to try to do better then the other guy.
look.. they also used explosives. now.. last time I checked the law said this was a/big/ no no but that didn't stop them. it's just the same with guns. people that wish to break the law are not concerned if what they are doing is against the law{only stands to reson}. Bombs/are/ against the law yet are still used. Outlawing guns will do nothing more then leave those that wish to break the law as the only ones armed. Now.. I could be crazy but that thought trubles me. Guns are a reality and there is no changing that, the question comes down to 'who do you wish to have the guns?' your options are 1: Outlaw guns and the only ones aremed are the people that breake the law and keep guns. or 2: Keep guns out there and make the results of using a gun in a crime so much more harsh then unarmed crime that people will not wish to use them. My preff is option #2 and as I see it it's the only one that has a real chance of working.

how low? I still have a working 300bps modem {used a 9 volt for the PWS}.. I just can't find any one that will alow a connection that slow.
{chuckle} just as it's a good idea to check your milk befor drinking it.. it's a good idea to check a link befor clicking it. {BTW.. I'm not the one that posted it}
I own a laptop with DVD. I have no need of that program to watch my DVDs anyplace I like {unless I wish to use my LINUX drive..} There is no law that I know of that says I have to pay the 'local' price for a movie nor is there a law that says I can not take my laptop to a place where the price of a movie is higher and watch it there.
I work for Gateway {don't say it.. I know..} and I can asure you that yes it does. not to every one but it is the reason for a large number of the calls we get. The biggest problem we have with it is the install of IE5 that it tends to do {and no most people don't bother to read what they are clicking on} but the AOL install can kill/all/ other ISPs even MSN {ok, there is a good side..}. While I would normaly like anything that can take out MSN AOL leaves it's clients with no option but to reformat {or deltree} if they ever want to use something else. IMHO this is just wrong, sure they were fools to say yes but when a stranger offers a child candy it is the stranger that is punished should something bad happen to the unknowing child and I see this as no different.
Not so for the same reason Windows can not be called a virus. take a look at any virus, you will tend to find that A: it is well coded. B: It works consistently, C: they are small, and D: the person that wrote it will likely suport it
You know.. things like this will give 'core dump' a new meening.. "Hay Frank.. can you pass me a rag? my system just took a core dump all over my desk.."
Um.. funny you should bring up the gun makers. If you check up on gun news you will find that they are going after the folks that make guns and blaming them for people using the guns in crimes.

Now that thought is amusing.. have you noticed the news? you hear of people attacking the US quite a bit less then you hear about other places.. dispite our size and stance. It almost never happens to us and the few that are directed at the US tend to happen in other parts of the world like the Cole. one other thing.. since when did an activist/fanatic ever need a real reason to do anything? they will do what they will do with little to no concern as to the reality of thier clames.

count me in. BTW I priced the units and right now it would run $1500 US for 1. lets hope some one picks it up.

Ask MS.. they are even able to get people to pay /them/ to beta test windows... I'll never understand how.
