I'm sorry but the systemd thing is really, really a mole hill when it comes to Ubuntu embracing things. From my perspective it doesn't matter what init scheme you use as long as it does it efficiently and allows you to augment things when you need to. Shit most Linux users don't even know what their distro's choice is for init scripting! Cripes you'd think that folks would have thought that the Vatican was now allowing electronic balloting and using Green Friendly e-smoke for electing the Pope or something with all this nonsensical whoopla.
Faux response or maybe they've decided to get away from SSL edge termination? With all of the PCI / Credit Card data thefts of late I'd suspect a lot of companies are re-thinking SSL Edge Termination and flat networks. With all of the NSA BS in the press I'd suspect that even if I had Network layer encryption (tunnels etc.) that traffic now going across those tunnels would be re-thought to mandate that it be encrypted too. FUD is always a great tool for freeing up money to solve problems that don't really exist or to give a false sense of security to executives who don't like answering questions about data breaches. If Google wasn't at least providing tunnel encryption between DCs and using the most secure protocols available, then they should be fired. Not actually having full disclosure from Google doesn't mean they negligent. Another example is I'm sure Target Stores is investing heavily in new network gear and consulting services to restructure their data network to avoid having their execs having to testify before congress again. Funny isn't it, credit card information gets stolen and congress is all over it like flies on shit but if the NSA steals data en masse it gets a congressional "Meh" after a couple of hearings and some "shhhh" from the President and members of the Intelligence committees. Meanwhile all the security theater in the world can't stop a couple of looney brothers in Boston from blowing up a marathon even though the Russians warned us about them. Or the dumbass trying to blow up a plane with his underwear, his father warning people about it and our own intelligence people telling the State Department not to revoke his visa. Yeah that kind of retarded response from our government means that the NSA has to suck up data wholesale because they're covering up the fact that they're retards who can't take warnings seriously and act in our best interests. It's all about misdirection. Look Puppies!
There's alternatives to Google Maps out there for Android. There are alternate app stores as well. You don't have to deal with Google's mind numbing tracking of your every action but it's not as "convenient" as some people would like.
In organizations where they're not burdened with a lot of Bullshit and Bureaucracy. They're not found however in organizations that have leadership that's based in Finance or the MBA world of idiocy.
How stupid! The concept of multi-threading has been around since the 1950s.
Every day now I'm still amazed at how little newer members of the technology community actually know about the history, at least some concept, of where modern computing originated.
I've gone back to Firefox although I hadn't really left it. Why? Spying constantly and most recently disabling extensions without your approval and you have no way to re-enable them. This is because they want all extension developers to use their web store to funnel extensions out to the browsers, creating another fucking walled garden. I think it's not only time to de-Chrome but to de-Google completely, I'm tired of changing policies and them breaking shit just for shits and giggles.
you just said it "could have" again, speculation on everybody's part and that's what this is all about. Throw a few chicken scratch drawings together and it becomes defacto truth. Don't believe everything you read in the press or online.
Well since the Federal Judges are all presidential appointments, there's little chance that they won't be bobble-heads for one party or the other. Then there's the "activist" judge label that one party will slap on a judge if he happens to go against the grain because he's doing his job in interpreting his/her view of the law and the constitution. At some point though these judges have to start saying enough to the bullshit that all these rights violations. One can hope.
Well lots of cases have been thrown out under "National Security" blankets but it still doesn't make it right. Let Franken know he wasn't funny on SNL and he's not funny as a Senator, a lot of fluff and hot air but not a lot of action. I guess though that's the norm for Congress these days.
The phrase you're looking for is "Slippery Slope."
Nixon and others used the IRS to get back at people and organizations, now it's done by the current administration. Has congress reined that in? No.
each day our liberties get whittled away, whether it's by the local city governments passing retarded laws like "you're trees can't be placed there on your property" to the feds who create secret courts that you have no visibility into. It's time that the elected officials of this nation get booted out at every turn. I don't care if they're good or bad, just vote for the other guy in the next few elections and then we may see some action about doing the peoples' business instead of lobbyists and special interests out there.
Also I would push more legislation on revolving door congressman/senators and government officials from working in a lobbying position for at least 10 years after their position ends with the government. That way you wouldn't have Chris Dodd for example pushing SOPA now that he's head of the MPAA.
while I admire the initiative the first Federal judge who hears the case will toss it because Holder and his bunch of cronies will say 'National Security' and that a mere Federal Judge won't be able to hear the case.
Case Closed.
What Paul should do is motivate his colleagues in Congress and git rid of the FISA court and get us back on track by dismantling this bullshit that they've created and turned a blind eye to. That's the only way this system will stop intruding into our lives. While they're at it pass a Privacy bill of rights that also keeps Google and other large data exaggerators out of our lives too.
Well any Network Engineer or Architect who'd allow that to happen wouldn't have a career anymore and therefore this part of story is a bunch of BS. Thus the retarded press picks it up and uses whatever scare mongering they can to say the sky is falling.
Lassie: Woof! Peggy: Timmy fell down the well!? Lassie: Woof! Growl! Peggy: Timmy lost his Google glasses?!? Lassie: Woof! Woof! Peggy: Timmy found his Google glasses!? Lassie runs off crapping on the carpet as he heads towards the door. Peggy: Oh, Lassie wanted to go outside.
yes, SSL edge termination is standard practice and like I said, this isn't professional in terms of something the NSA would produce to show people who weren't network engineers, it's hokey and quickly made up to make it look like something the NSA had on file when any person knowing about this technology could sketch it together. I venture to say it's fluff. What Google does DC to DC is probably not that naieve but sent over encrypted tunnels, so intercepting the traffic isn't that easy. Since I don't have a network topology from Google, let's assume that their engineers are a bit more intelligent than this drawing and say that DC to DC is over encrypted tunnels and services. That means the naive assumption that it's highly vulnerable between DCs falls flat on its face.
Install automatically controlled mirrors that will reflect the light back to the source once the intensity reaches a certain lumen value. That way either 1) You'll get the a-hole tail-gating to you dim his lights and back off 2) You'll cause him to get a taste of his own medicine and crash because of being blinded by his own stupid headlights. It could be cobbled together pretty cheaply.
Okay, I'll bite on that one. Show me the government operated spyware/malware and that it's been used to illegally obtain data without a warrant on its own citizens? I'm no fool not to believe that it's not used as a weapon, i.e., Stuxnet. Shit, put up a web server out there and you'll have thousands of hacks daily from China, Eastern Europe and Russia all trying to hack into your system. The Internet isn't Mr. Rogers neighborhood, it's more like a dark back alley in Newark.
Any service you use on the Internet is trusting information to a third party. Even your posts here represent that you don't have a reasonable expectation of privacy. Google has said that for any of their services you use as well. Do you use their javascript libraries? If so I'll bet there's little tidbits in there tracking you as well, the only thing is at least their honest about it, scumbags but honest scumbags.
Without any clear evidence of putting malware on citizens computers, I'd state that it's hearsay. One thing we have to remember is that Snowden and his friends in the press must keep themselves relevant and while I do believe a lot of material was obtained from the NSA et al some of it is absolutely ridiculous and looks made up. Look at this diagram. Does it look like it was made by a professional working in the NSA or by some guy who has an understanding of SSL edge termination? It has no depth of knowledge and could easily come out of a test for your CCXX certification. So while I believe most of the story, I think a lot of it is played the fuck out and either the citizens in the US, UK and around the world tell their government to stop this and protest it, nothing will change. Do I believe that the government is installing malware deliberately? It's possible but not probable on a large scale and if they were caught doing it without a warrant, then I'd believe a little more but don't keep falling for everything you read! I'll give you an example of the news can get out of hand and things can get made up because of hysteria.
But All the local bookstores are now closed because of Amazon, that means I'll have to go to the public library and buy my books there. Wait, that means I'm using the Internet and I can't do that. I mean the UPS man will know what I've received packages, so he may be tracking me as well. Oh I can't check out books either because the Library is tracking me as well!
If you live in the US it's already spelled out for you. Using a website or service on the Internet is trusting information to a third party and you have no reasonable expectation of privacy under the 4th Amendment.
Due to a technicality Alice was let off of on a DUI charge just recently. Maybe she should spend some of her $27 Billion on Drug and Alcohol education in the schools instead?
I realize that Big Pharma have a vested interest in their bottom lines but they also are allowed lengthy patents on all of their products, essentially giving them license to print money for years. India on the other hand has no interest in paying for patents when they have millions of people who can benefit from the medications that Big Pharma have produced. That's wrong too and two wrongs don't make a right.
I mean, you can get tons of generic medications, made in India, from all kinds of third party pharmacies all over the world. It's great for the consumer but it undermines IP rights and the research investments that Big Pharma make. Does this hurt Big Pharma? Well yes but I don't see any of them going bankrupt and only in nations where they're allowed to have a monopoly, like the US, would they not be more amenable to reducing their pricing structure? Last year it was reported that just on Medicare in the US Big Pharma netted $711 Billion in profits. That's not exactly going broke.
Why? Well the ACA didn't touch Big Pharma nor did it open the doors and allow more generics to be imported, that was a back room deal but it still remains that while they should be allowed to protect their IP, they shouldn't be allowed to charge outrageous, over-the-top prices for what they produce. Some of these companies even charge less for the same product in other nations than they do in the US. They even have gone so far as to sue Maine for allowing Candian pharmacy imports. If we're going to start reducing healthcare costs worldwide we have to start addressing Big Pharma and their political influence and to come to an understanding that they can't just live off the the ills of the people they're supposed to help. If we could get to that level, then there wouldn't be the need for $15,000 injections nor the need for India to circumvent intellectual property rights to keep their citizens alive nor for everybody else to pay outrageous prices for medications which improve the quality of life.
I'm sorry but the systemd thing is really, really a mole hill when it comes to Ubuntu embracing things.
