    Doing the research to determine linux driver compatibility on a non-linux pc before purchase can be an epic endeavor.

    Or make sure you buy an external CD-rom to install Linux or FreeBSD - they don't install too well from a usb key.

    Seriously, has anybody used a CD to install Linux in the last 10 years? USB has been the standard method for a very long time.

    Diseases can never be eliminated with non-mandatory vaccines -- you can't reach 95% that way, it's hard enough to with mandatory vaccines. And of course without that group immunity the people who really can't use the vaccine due to an allergy are left unprotected. If you're against mandatory vaccines, you're bad for other people.

    Actually there are no penguins anywhere near the south pole, nor any fish -- those are thousands of miles away at the coast. But the main problem is, as you say, that nobody wants to settle there. There's just nothing "cool" about the south pole to anyone but a few scientists. People do want to go to Mars, so despite the much harsher conditions, the chances for settling Mars are somewhat better.

  7. There's no reason to think that micro-gravity ailments like that will apply to Mars gravity.

  8. Stepping outside will kill you in a hurry in the Antarctic winter if you're not wearing all the proper protection. The most important difference is that if you're sitting indoors in Antarctica and a puncture somehow occurs in your building, you have time to fix it before you die.

    The beauty of SpaceX engines is how adaptable they are. If you only want an extremely light payload to orbit, use one engine (Falcon 1). For typical payloads, use 9 engines (Falcon 9). For heavy lift, use 27 engines (Falcon Heavy). The raptor engine will likewise be applicable to a variety of situations, not just Mars colonization -- and the large number of engines they'll have to make for the Mars Colonial Transporter will just mean better economies of scale for the more typical small Earth satellite launches.

    Maybe you thought waiting for 10 frameworks to load was bad. In a few years, it will be standard practice for websites to load a full operating system to run themselves.

    One non-current year of slight rise, not adjusted per-capita, is quite the meaningless statistical cherry-picking. I have no idea whether crime is on the rise in Sweden (I'm American so I don't care), but it's easy to see that your link does not provide reasonable support for your claim.

    Sales taxes normally exempt food items for that reason -- so the poor can eat without being taxed. One can of course get more selective and put extra tax on luxury items. Sales taxes can be as progressive or regressive as you design them to be.

    There are no theoretical limits on subjective speed. You can travel to Andromeda in a day, in theory. There's only a rule that everybody will be long dead when you get home.
