The GPL only exists as an imperfect solution in the current framework of copyright that exists. I don't think anybody would shed any tears over the GPL going away if copyright was eliminated tomorrow. The GPL is meant to make sure that what was free, stays free. If I were able to copy and modify ANY software I wanted with no restrictions because copyright was no more, then the GPL is not needed.

Really? His estate deserves income? Do I deserve income because my ancestor may have nailed a shoe to a horses foot?

If you want to provide your ancestors with income, invest. Don't expect my grandchildren to pay your grandchildren just because you thought you were something special.

Except that counter steering is not counter steering when you're trying to counter steer something where the wheels are 300mm (or whatever those monstrosities are) and your center of gravity appears to be about 8 inches off the ground. Not to mention, the riding position appears to have the riders arms almost at full extension. Looks like a death trap to me.

And this is why modern copyright is a complete failure. It is used today not as a tool to enrich both the copyright holder and the public through dissemination of ideas, but as a lock and key to prevent anyone else from using it by very intentionally not disseminating said idea..

My daughter said something a few years back that made me smile. She may have been 7 or 8 at the time. Out of the blue, she very matter of factly stated that "Companies make things on commercials look better than they really are, just to make you want to buy them."

Don't try to think too hard about it, statisticians think about these kinds things in order to convince themselves that they're more intelligent than people who actually do something worthwhile with their lives. From the original problem:

"Suppose that Mr. Smith has two children, at least one of whom is a son. What is the probability both children are boys?"

They then go on to list options of:

    Boy, girl
    Boy, boy
    Girl, boy

when birth order has nothing to do with the original question. Options one and three are the same choice, because birth order wasn't in question so the options are really:

    Boy, girl
    Boy, boy
