So what you send is not Unsolicited Commercial Email. Congratulations on a pointless post.
Tell that to some of the people who email me with descriptions of how they're going to sue the place I work for, etc etc citing some law or another. It's quite amusing actually to see how many claim it is unsolicited (probably a dozen or more a week).
Hiding behind the AC shield is so cowardly, that's why I have my threshold set accordingly.
Simple, two wrongs don't make a right. Granted I'd almost assuredly fight back "myself" but if I was at work I wouldn't due to the fact that breaking the law against someone breaking the law against you still means you're breaking the law, I don't see much way around that, IANAL but that seems pretty cut and dried.
If you are getting mugged and you slip the mugger's watch off in the tussle (and his wallet) you still broke the law! The judge is liable to laugh but he'd about have to find you guilty.
I could "subscribe" for X dollars to "CBS records" for every X dollars I'm allowed to download so many MP3 files "straight from the horse's mouth" (straight from CBS). I would think something like 3 or 4 songs per dollar, and becoming a "member" I would be able to download and "preview" as many "low quality" songs from their site as I want (let's face it, those 24K encrypted songs suck ass but you CAN decide "hey I like this" or "this sucks" from those crappy songs).
I would gladly pre-pay about $20 to subscribe to such a service, and that would allow me to download several CDs or just a whole crapload of singles, mix and match, I could then burn these to my own CDs for use in my car, etc, I would still be under the same moral obligation (as I am now) not to distribute these files or burnt offerings.
Maybe BMG could pioneer something like this.
Another idea (which I've seen mentioned) is to be able to select songs (via previewing them by downloading low-bit encoded songs?) and have them make my "own flavor" CD and ship that to me for a price (?$8?) I could put a single from here and a single from there and have a cool CD for my own use.
Use the power of MP3, personally if I had a band I'd put every single song I ever made on a web site, encoded at 56K stream, it's good enough to hear us, but not so good you'd wanna amplify it to 100 watts to jam with it.
So setup the MyODBC driver on my Solaris box and have my designers point MS Access 2000 to this "external database"? That sounds possible...
This has been plaguing me for 3 weeks now, the powers that be are wondering why I can't get this to work and wonders why we just don't put up an NT server, my reply is I am not deploying any server that I can't administer from the comfort of an SSH connection from home.
I will try this it sounds "doable", now if I can get Chilisoft to work I might be done with this nightmare.(are there any other ASP solutions for Apache? I've yet to find one) Grimster
I remember High School, here is how me and my friends would handle this: I call up and report every single person in my class, including myself, then my best friend would do the same, and so on, by the time it was over every person within my grade would be missing so many periods a week to be "counselled" school would be like one big, permanent, counselling session. Get pissed off at that cheerleader? Draw some mean pictures, sign her name, and fax 'em in and say how depressed she's been acting (and how she's been wielding her emory board very menicingly at you!). In seriousness, the propensity for abuse of this is just mind boggling, knowing how vindictive and, frankly, how much fun, I would have had with this in high school it scares me what even less normal kids would do with such a tool. I have DirecPC, and I've been so unhappy with it I could scream. A "friend" sold me his dish (to get rid of it I'm sure) and I even got to keep his "old" account ($19.95 for 200K/s 6pm-6am unlimited). It has never really worked at all. From about 3pm until 12 midnight, don't even think of using it, their network is apparently so overtaxed, you don't even get MODEM speeds out of it, usually around 1 AM it clears up, but then... FAP kicks in, 2 or 3 MP3s or one Microsoft Windows 98 Update later and you're throttled, a bit more, and you get throttled again, so basically you're good for roughly, 30 megs a day and that's that, else you get FAPped. I GLADLY cancelled my account to get on $59 a month cable modem, it's expensive but at least I can DOWNLOAD at a reasonable rate now (the cable is one way just like DirecPC is, but 2 way cable is just days away now). My advice, FORGET DIRECPC, maybe some of the other Internet over satellite companies don't suck, but believe me, you will be sorely disappointed in DirecPC. Grimster

I sent 840,000 emails this morning.
I feel great!
Of course I don't mangle the header and hide the origin, and these folks are opted in to these mailings, go figure.

Because why in the hell would Microsoft SUBNET a Class C?
Who wants to see PICTURES and not just a couple, of this in ACTION?
This sounds neat as hell but without pictures it just lacks something.
