Well i thing GNU will have no diffucilty in making a C# compiler (if there is no licensing issue).
Bu what i am afraid is this will hit Delphi bad. Well, a talented programmer on Windows uses either pure C or Delphi. Pure C is not for me because interface design is not easy, same thing for MFC.
Delphi has all the bells & whistles, lile properties, a very good Class hierarchy (VCL) and a very good exception handling mechanism.
I will be very sad if Borland (or Inprise) cannot catch up. BP7 was may favouritte in dos and Kylix may change things in Linux development, but what can we do about this C# thingy?
Yes it's a must! See WinAmp, it can easily integrate a WEB Browser easily (IE in our case).
Or i would like to be able to add a document editing feature to my *compex* project. So all I need is waiting for October for StarOffice to bo GNOMEized.
Also galeon uses Gnome Transfer MAnager via ORBit.. Wow what a world. I just combine components and have a great application.
(Well i would also be able to add Terminal emilation to my bloated project via GnomeTerminal libs.)
Well, you claim that all the time they are adding new feature. Today I checked their Milesotne plans, and they claim that M17 is the last milestone with new features.
Maybe you mean "MozOffice" and other applications like "ChatZilla" but as far as i know they are external efforts. Core developers are focesed on the borwser.
One other thing: I have a yahoo! mail account but i check it with Netscape Messanger. Why? because POP3 is much faster than WEBMail and also I have *threads*.
Af far as there is development in Mozilla i will wait for it...
This is not a troll. I really wonder what makes Debian so popular. (Note: This is not an andti-Debian post, I just wonder)
I have been using Slackware for years and once i deviced to switch to another distro, because Slackware was lacking new libs.
The I tried RedHat and SuSE. They were awful, they i switched back to Slackware and waited for a glibc2 release.
Not i am using 7.1 and after seeing a Debian hype in many sites i wanted to check it. Af far as i understand its last stable release (2.1) is too old and even their next stable release (2.2), which isn't out yet will bundle *old* software & libs.
There was some mention in the package managment. Once i saw someone trying to install Debian 2.0. He gave up when he realized that he had to answer 2000 questions.
But I am not saying that Debian is bad. If so many people love it, it must have really good features. So please help to to figure out what they are...
What's more, they mentioned this (no CLI for WinME) in their news page one month ago. They also said it would be possible to port FreeDOS to WinME, so people would still have access do DOS.
Maybe this is not necessary at the moment (because we still have cmd.exe/command.com) at later stages we may need this.
System: What do you need? Package: WinNT Kernel 4.0 Build 1943 System: I don't have that, whre can i find it? Package: On the CD in the drawer, of http://warez.com/msproducts/winnt40/server System: OK, I am downloading it, hold on System: Download OK.
but i got an e-mail saying "i love u"!. This software is cool...
hey what is going on where is/root directory it should be on/dev/hda3 but i cannot find it.
Panic! where is/usr i cannot even remember where it was System:... arrgh... !#@$......
(Deep long silence)
Ok this comment is an enhanced version of my reply to another comment so i am not sure how this will affect my Karma, anyway
First of all only packaging standards is not enough for Linux. There are many other ares that need to be standardized.
DOS/Windows compatibility layer. Wine and SAMBA both use a registery but it is not shared. Also Wine and DOS uses DOS driver aliases. We may include MAWS_NWE and SAMBA shares here too.
We may not enforce people to use one central configuration file, but there may be a "global DOS config file" which is parsed after application specific files, or teams may agree on specific registry format.
I think i do not have to mention that DOS is not the only case in this.
Multimedia. HAs anyone looked at Microsoft DirectShow SDK? One can take the input from TV card, then tee it and send one end to the screen, the other to the Indeo codec and then to AVI Mux with sound input from mic and store them in a file. This is a area that needs standards too.
Browser plugins. But netscape plugins seems to be standardized, bucause Konqueror and Mozilla uses them.
Drag&Drop, VFS and many other Desktop issues
DDE Like system...
Common object model between Desktops
Something like Novell Directory Services
And many other thing...
But i think these will not be possible until RMS or Linus does. Who knows?
As far as i remember gnome-config has XML config file support. Let me check... anyway... i am too lazy to type www.gnome.org... but i know there is such a feature, at least in TODO lists...
I still play DOOM, please do not upset doom commun

New Doom Details

Well, my first multiplayer experience was DOOM, and it is still my favourite.
DOOM's single player was awful, but everything was changing when i had three other man to wander around and waiting for me to kill them. I do not know why but DOOM had some magic, and even QIII was unable to change it.
Maybe it was the atmospehere or being able to kill *very* rapidly, or the feeling of being the *hunter* i cannot decide, but DOOM rocks.
Now the question is will this DOOM sequel keep my gaming experince of DOOM or will it just use QIII like engine and some hype to make money? I really do not need a new game because DOOM I E 1 M 1 map can keep me playing for days.
Ok you may be right total application count for GNOME may be more than KDE's, but usable application count is not.
For example i love KLyX, but currentle there is no working LyX port for GTK/GNOME. I can also count may others, like e-mail client...
And mozilla is not as stable as konquereor, YET. Even on widnows i have a longer up time for it.
And also my comment does not mean that GNOME sucks, what i meant is GNOME is still behind KDE and i want to see "KDE in Action" but i beleive that in the long run, GNOME/Mozilla will take place. Because their architecture is far better.
I am a GNOME fan but, i like the way KDE goes. It really looks excellent, and it has much more applications than GNOME has. I am really excited with this beta and i am waiting for Slackware binaries to come. And also GNOME port of the Konqueror (at least browser)
somebody else has already mentioned it but FreePascal has the same code syntax of Delphi, and also a free compnent library for it is under development and with a RAD tool (called lazarus).
OK, MacOS X may be better than Linux in some areas. But that will not stop me using Linus's kernel. But the problem is, as a Linux user what may i gain from the delelopment of MacOS X? Somebody metioned games. But Wine and Loki are already doing good progress. I am more concerned with multimedia thing... By the way what happened to the MPEG 4 Coded contest anybody has news?
In may oponion, PHP has the best syntax to generate WEB pages, but as everybody mentioned it is slow. It will be slow for critical tasks even with Zend. I am currently using PHP for may web pages (templates, login boxes, etc.) But i have a search engine in my web page, so i developed a C program to search the index and a PHP page to parse its output, fast, easy...
For all the times i have used linux, there existed LYNX. It is fast, supports many goodies (but not all of them) and easy to use. Why people don't keep using it or even GUI'ising it (a simple one not with an e-mail client)
You mentioned RTF. Why is RTF not the standard in Linux, it is easy to generate and parse and allows us to share documents with Word users (by the way i personally don't use Word as long as i can do my work with LyX)
YEs you're right, but it should filter duplicates (6, 7, or sometimes as much as 1000 copies of the same mail come). It can easily check for 1-to-1 duplicates and tell you that there are 999 copies of the message (just like gdb).
You guys having filters at home are just fine. But what about ones like me who has 400 e-mails in his inbox and have to get them throuh http. I think we shall make sendmail change and include filters for default.... (eg:./ effect). (Someone told me that EVERY PIECE OF E-MAIL is touched by sendmail at least once)
And fortunately I am not alone. We (the Delphi community) can overcome this!
RealPlayer for Linux,
Many games for Linux for Loki,
And not AIM for Linux!
Go on Linux we will win! (Well what about IE for Linux?)
Bu what i am afraid is this will hit Delphi bad. Well, a talented programmer on Windows uses either pure C or Delphi. Pure C is not for me because interface design is not easy, same thing for MFC.

One more step, . . /apps/mpg123-0.59.r /apps/mpg123 -> mpg123-0.59.r
or
.
. /bins/mpg123-0.59.r /apps/mpg123 -> /bins/mpg123-0.59.r
The best would be Linus or RMS defines standards, but let's wait for GNU/Linux to maturize a bit more.
As far as i remember gnome-config has XML config file support. Let me check... anyway... i am too lazy to type www.gnome.org... but i know there is such a feature, at least in TODO lists...

Seems like the images have been removed at Aplle's request.
Doea anybody have any local copies so i can see them. I really wonder what thay look like...
somebody else has already mentioned it but FreePascal has the same code syntax of Delphi, and also a free compnent library for it is under development and with a RAD tool (called lazarus).
If they stup down napster, freenet or others will be left. If they shut down them, more will come...
Hey also did you look at the previos article about offshore hosting?

Ok I know that i should not ask this question. But i do not know what quickies are and could not find any information. Can someone tell me?
