    It does not say that anything that "is developed as a" cirumvention device is illegal.

    (Talking about MP3) Well 128KBit may be CD-Quality, if there are no vocals and only simple insturments are used.

    But even 256KBit does not satisfy me when i try to encode Metallica, because of the electroguitar.

    I heard that Rio accepts software updates. So we can "port" ogg player into Rio. Just a thought.

    Almost everbody here agrees NOT TO PAY. Because WEB means FREEDOM.

    But well ogranized ads can really make money. This is done by Yahoo, or other sites which track "your" interest. Thus for example when you search "KONQUEROR" on google you'll come up with "Nautilus" (which is better as they say), and wonder what it is. A single click, wow, the ad hitted the target.

    I get ads on my native language on Yahoo, and even "GoZilla" (i must admit, i still use windblowz for "browsing").

    But most of the "little" sites cannot do that, because accessed enough to track user interest. Maybe an online database (GPL'd maybe) of all the interest of all the nodes would solve the problem.

    Well I am a university student. Thus I can make a parady site about one of my professors... he he .. I get thousands of $$$...

    I don't think this should be so easy. Maybe someone can explain it to me. I feel like missing some points...

    Enlightenment was my reason for switching to GNOME. It was shiny, beautiful, but slow.

    Later i met saw(fish/mill) and forgot about my experience with enlightenment.

    If ever enlightenment gets faster i will happily switch back! (By the way i have to check it again now my machine has 192M ram as it had 64M before)...

    Well people does not need to know IRC to get DivX movies. There are many sites like startdivx.com that makes the life easier. (Or maybe harder).

    And ~400MB download takes only a day on an ISDN (not to mention DSL, Cable or T1...). Not now but probably in near future we'll be able to get DivX movies much easier. Than it will be a serious treat to MPAA.

    I have a sony CD Walkman. All my dics are CD-R's and I absolutely have no problem at all. (Bu, It doesn't play CD-RW's)

    Well gnome is (mostly) based on GTK+, and GTK+ is developed for GIMP.

    If GIMP will be under heavy redesign, thus we mach expect the same thing for GTK+ which is a bad thing for GNOME as it's approaching 2.0 (or 1.2) version.

    Or maybe GTK+ is already a distinct rpoduct from GNOME, thus we have no problem...

    Well i get impressed when people tlak about "their" kernmels (i'ma talkin about BeOS and QNX). They are very modular and hardware installation is not a problem at all.

    The most important thing we need is a everthing becoming more modular.

    Well, can't we just hack microsoft like this guys, and filter all code thru "c2pas" and have a GPL'd office filters in PASCAL!

    One can easily see that this code no longer belongs to microsoft since it's "rewritten from stratch"!

    WOW! Let me install a thousand DOS systems with a web server redirecting each request to solaris.hotmail.com.

    Of course each server will return Apache/DOS in their headers but do no work, which is not so much important.

    Netware was my favouritte until Win95's came. It was fast, stable, doing its work, *only* its work, and doing that well...

    I think they won't have to deal with too many drivers (who needs sound card support for their file server?). Anything essential may be borrowed from Linux kernel (power of GPL!). Also some sode has been implemented in the MARS-NWE project. What's left: stabilization and integration of NDS, and some utilities.

    I like this kind of projects... If it ever becomes mature enough, i can kiss NT's goodbye...

    QT designer is a "probably good thing" (TM) but we already have Kylix which will be much more better than anything QT can make.

    Q: Kylix is not free! Why should I buy it?

    A: QT/KDE is not free too, if you're to develop a commercial app. Kylix will be much more cheaper than QT/Professional so let's be honest and but Kylix.

    And I also have to say that i did not like what they tell about GNOME!

    Well what Sun is doing is their only choice

    Why?

    KDE may be, (i do not claim so i say may be)

    • more stable,
    • more app rich,
    • mouch better looking.
    BUT, KDE is depended on TrollTech. Can you imagine sun says:

    "You can buy Solaris for $150 but you have to pay an extra $1000 if you want to make software devoplent".

    What we get for extra: a license.

    Well, can't KDE get rid of QT stuff? Obviously not now (since they are very busy with 2.0) but even not in the future.

    Please KDE folks don't get angry but, as long as KDE is depended on QT, Sun or any other UNIX vendor will not make it standard.

    Slackware ... ehm you talk about my distro. Well the Slackware team is not making a new pakage managment system. Maybe we will be able to see more Slackware friendly apps after that. You may want to check http://slaktool.sourceforge.net/.

    Well, when I was new to Linux I was using KDE, then I saw a screenshot and fell in love with GNOME.

    The gnomefoundation will hopefully be do "cool" things for GNOME. But what I don't understand is why this upsets KDE community. It's all a matter of choice, and the foundation will give GNOME what KDE already has (Mozilla for Konqueror and StarOffice for KOffice)

    Let's play nice and live in peace forever.
