I am wondering for quite a while now about the actual meaning in making a distinction between humans allowed to be killed and mutialted and other's not so.
What could be the benefit of making such a distinction?
It serves a purpose, or it would not exist.
So, one fact is that as wars became more sophisticated from WW I, WW II, Korea, Vietnam and what all came along, the ratio of allowed (soldiers) and tolerated (civilians) caualities shifted tremendously. In the earlier wars, it was even more soldier casualities than civilians whereas nowadays it is the other way around - maybe 80 % civilians, 20 % soldiers, even more (I forgot the exact numbers, but the ratios nowadays between enemy combatants and are civilians shocking).
Now, if you want to make a "difference between enemy combatants and civilians", you are fooling youself even using those terms.
And then land mines... children loosing limbs and the cost and danger of disabling those toys. Talk about environmental pollution. Those are implements dangerous to human life. The manufacturers should be held financially responsible for that. Full cost of damages caused to civil population and cleanup cost with full insurance coverage for the personell doing it. Producing those things would become unprofitable very quickly.
Same with the whole war thing - it's one big loss for every participant, so who gains from it? It would simplify things tremendously if all the contemporary folks longing for war would be able to gather in large sport arenas and then could do their war thing by category: light combat, heavy combat, programmed killing with/by machines.
Or do it with video games where one actually pays for real - if you loose that fight - you'll have to give up a limb or get your head impacted by defined force. With some creativity, there are great possibilities doing things better and much more efficient.

No, I want to do the manual install and see what is coming onto the system. Well, well, well -the Windows Genuine Advantage is one package in a bundle and _has_ to be installed.
Once the system is upgraded with all the goodies, the IE7B3 installer runs but complains that there is already a previous version of IE7B? installed and it has to be uninstalled first from the Control Panel.But this program has no uninstaller!!
Result: Live with the old IE7 version and have the WGA phone home every day...
Does this suck? Yesssss!!! M$ is digging their own grave with this type of BS!

Well, there is a cutoff time where working off the queue stops - the highest offer wins at that point.
There are delays in bidding of up to 10 seconds at times - maybe they are doing it on purpose - add a random delay of a couple of seconds to every bidder the last 30 seconds before close? Internet does it by default anyway if the net is busy.
If the sellers are unhappy about the price they get - they can enter a minimum bid requirement.
With sniping it's the same auction principle as without - just in a much smaller time frame....
I would think less gravity would be a huge boon to getting more work done for the same effort.

There is permanent challenge to the tonic muscle system to stay balanced and not fall over. If that challenge gets less, muscle- and bone structure atrophies i. e. disappears. The changes happen very fast. If you lay horizontally in bed for one week, you loose muscles and noticeably weaker. It builds up right away on earth, but not so if the gravity is missing or less.
Astronauts in the space station have to excercise hard every day for 2 1/2 hours and still loose significant muscle- and bone mass in calves and lower back. Guess why they are carried around in stretchers once they come back? It's not the stress of the return flight. They lost too much substance to be able to sustain their structure in gravity.
That's a major issue in space and obstacle for humans but never a popular topic.
And maybe fund OSS projects, as other's do - you sure got enough $$ "captured" by doing your thing.
I would not believe anything unless it's accompanied by actions. Judgment as to their intentions is done by interpreting the actions for a period of maybe 5-10 years and then take maybe another look.
