    You have a point - any argument can be used and made in favor of a particular slant. You just find the right arguments (they have research teams for that) and present them loud and often enough and a significant flock of sheep will baah after you.

    Only problem is that you are not a bigshot of some Corp and have a bunch of smallpricks who can't get enough holding you up from behind.

    The genie is out of the bottle and just won't fit back in!

    Wait a minute - you are really riding on it, aren't you?

    The underlying issue here is that Nikon is encrypting for whatever reason and making it difficult. That's the hair in the soup and should not even be there.

    Now you come along and say that the hair has a right to be there and needs to treated properly.

    Just forget all that mindfuck - some corp. jerk at Nikon dreamed up a scheme to increase a bottom line and now reality kicks in, people don't like it, Nikon is backpaddling - a little, still scheming the orignal plan.

    That BS needs to go - making a picture format coming out of a camera proprietary (and get money for it) is a joke and as wrong as it can get. Maybe it is just a test balloon, if it flies, they try the next thing or another company gets ideas tries something similar down those lines further restricting freedom.

    You with your arguments, how the wrong thing should be treated "right" are just sucking up to them.

    Under Windoze, I have Kerio and block any internet access from programs I don't like. It's amazing how many access attempts there are from programs running inside. Almost every installation tries to connect to "somewhere"; not even to speak about Windoze updates. Sure, we don't collect any information about your computer.

    Leave me alone, would you - please! No - nose, nose, nosing around, on top of everything else!

    Could it be that this is actually a toy for star wars - or whatever they call the US military's ambition to "strike any target on the planet" - you can read more about this BS (plutonium driven lasers, total US dominance of space, upsetting everyone else - China, Russia, N-Korea..., more junk in space) in the US Air Force Transformation Flight Plan, the document is there .     What are the preconditions that this can be exploited?

    The meat is there:

    "...a href="http://www.citibank.com/" target="citibank" onclick="begin();..."

    The begin function does malicious stuff. So - the malicious site needs to attract you to click on this link and then forsee what you could do on the target site and then spoof the target popup window.

    Happens a lot that you go from a malicious site directly to your bank with a link from there and then a popup window asks you for your password - right?

    Btw. Citibank has throw away (1-use) CC numbers; not a bad idea.

    It appears that the particular sites (or categories) in Ebay are blocked from accepting PayPal

    Another thing - I looked a little bit into the PayPal issues, if something goes wrong with a purchase, let's say defective (DOA) item sent and there is a problem, one may consider the following condition for invoking PayPal's "Buyer Complaint Process requirements":

    You must not have received the item that you purchased.

    Well... you've reveived it, it's dead and PayPal's "Buyer Complaint Process" cannot be used!

    Since I found this out, I don't use PayPal for any purchases since paying direct with a credit card gives you more right in a dispute.

    As for PayPal's puritanism - that's right down the current US ruling parties road. Know a good country to move to on this planet?

    I don't think you are right with this. You're taking the word "process" too strict. I have not seen that it sasys in the patent that it needs to be a daemon.

    In the patent context it's hardly a OS process, more a "description of collected steps performing a defined functionality".

    If you think sudo does not count you're definitely incorrect. The sudo program is a process (performs defined steps) under an authorized level (setuid root) goes after privileges (grouped by user/computer/group/whatever) and allows or denies privileges.

    That's the patent.

    What M$soft does right now is write zillions of patents, no matter if they have previous art - they sure know it exists. Their straegy appears to be to get as many patents as possible and then one has to go to court to get it revoked. They got billions of $$'s in their war chest ant they are using it in this manner - one day we'll see how this turns out.

    You should really reconsider about this one. Without your engine running your brake booster won't work either. Imagine....

    Hey you theorizing dwerp - I am driving that way at times, no sweat at all - that's a small car, not some monster SUV small dick compensation tank. Ususally, there is enough vacuum in the booster to cover a couple of breaks and then, just push harder or turn the engine on.

    The situation you describe - kids running around - that's urban living areas with 25-35 speed limits - can't turn the engine off at that speed anyway.

    Get your facts straight!

    4-position ignition switch:

    LOCK ACC ON START

    There is extra resistance to get from ACC into LOCK and you must be heavly drunk to accomplish that. You flick the switch from on to ACC to kill the engine and immediately back into ON.

    Sheesh! - starter draws maybe 100 amps with a warm engine for 2/10 of a second. Alternator charges with 30 amps for 6/10 of a second to make up for it - keep wondering.

    If you would have argued that the initial possibly increased fuel consumption of starting the engine would not make it worth turning it off - that's been researched and not the case.
    If you would have argued excessive stater wear, you would have had some point.

    That's not happening at all if you stick in the righ lane - you're just mindfucking.

    Sticker shows 23/29 - 2001 Subaru Imprezza (definitely not a SUV)

    Normally, driving part highway, part city I get between 24 and 26.

    Now with the gas prices so high, I tried something (which I read years ago and works only with a stickshift):
    • upshifting as early as possible, i. e. at or below 1500 rpm (with my 5th it's not possible, have to go to 2000 rpm). This means that one shifts into 2. gear after a few yards, turns corners in 3. gear and drives in 5th or 4th gear with 35 mph speed limits
    • softest acceleration (and touch of gas pedal) possible, no stepping on it
    • always turn engine off at red traffic lights or when it's forseeable that car stands for more than 3 seconds.
    • always turn engine off when coasting downhill (within reason, not on very long slopes) or towards a red traffic light
    • correct tire pressure
    For one tank filling, I did it religously and got 30.04 mpg - that's over 15 % less than what I normally use. The next time - less religously - I got 28.4 mpg.

    One drives better on the right lane with this driving style which gives a totally different driving experience after getting used to the mechanics of low rpm shifting and driving.

    A new air filter (long before this test) resulted in 1 mpg savings.

    If that's true, it's just another proof for what military stands for: very little brain, much muscle.

    Who cares about accuracy, collateral damage, follow-up/long term damage, post traumatic stress syndrom, humans maimed, civilian, enemy combatant casualities (not counted anyway - we look the other way)?

    Doesn't count - all important is that it's powerful, innovative and makes a lot of noise and damange - then it's good.

    Gotta defend a country and serve a president who proudly marches ahead!

    Interesting that people do this out of their own free will....

    Umm.... actually they already do need a reason to demand it (i.e: they have reasonable cause to think you might have committed a crime) and we don't live in a country where the police can demand "papers" at will.

    Maybe on paper and in theory. Practically:

    - sorry, hit the post button by mistake - AFAIK && experienced - police can just say and maybe think you are a potential "suspect" of a recent burglary which just happened in the area you are and can hold you (so I was told later) up to 72 hours if they don't like your face (or you behave different as you "should" - questioning why you are held up; apparently this can be withheld since it would impede on a current investigation).

    And don't you think that witholding anything does not make you any less of an already suspected suspect to be held and investigated.

    To become and be a cop requires adapting a way of thinking where human dignity runs under very low priority. Your flowery view sure does not correlate with this. Ever watched the the pentagon papers movie? Nice theory that laws and regulations are what they appear on paper.

    By my books, the right to free expression has more weight than the flimsy "don't hurt my feelings" attitude of certain individuals and the lot feeding on it.

    This is higly manipulative - in a person to person situation, one person tries to maipulate the other by putting a demeaning value on speech or outer appearance (for example).

    Same goes for human dignity - deeply violated by police and military behavior. Look at Guantanamo Bay, War on Drugs, how people protesting are treated, prisons, etc. Human dignity is worth shit in comparison to the purposes it's being sacrificed!

    Clearly shows what wimps of people are in charge. Nobody there has the courage to keep this from happening - disgusting!

    Is Lindows following up with a letter and a physical form to sign?

    What kind of proof does Lindows require for legitimacy?

    It's a pretty sophistacted process differentiating between several cases and very often one has to choose the manual system. So, somebody must have spent some brain on this.

    Now, Microsoft is doing the ususal bully number and it'a an ego thing as well between M$ and Lindows.

    In a way, this is getting old. Lawyers and courts will sort this one out.

    Very good, who told you that? Look there. Amazing technology. This shows what a bomb really does and the effects are very well known and intended. The damage to humans is so immense, would the real effects shown on TV, people in US would not support this.

    Why do you think that napalm-like fire bombs are developed and used? Probably to surgically melt down bridges and buildings at night;)

    I find it interesting that in almost all press reports in USA only US losses are counted and never the total count of injured and killed humans is mentioned. Could it be that the numbers would not look very good?

    It is talked about 60-something billion $'s of cost for this war - the total material cost of destroyed infrastructure, building, bridges, equipment is completely unknown.

    Human losses are not publicized either the www.iraqbodycount.net tries to get number but those are only civilian deaths. How many are injured and to which degree is unknown.

    The total count of humans killed in this escapade is intentionally kept quiet, or maybe the corpses of "other" soldiers dug under somewhere are not even counted.

    I guess, it would be simpler, to lock the "leaders" causing wars into a room and only let them out again, once they get along. This would save all this stupid and destructive war making and weapons developing.

    It is truly amazing that it is possible for a company in US to play a game of FUD without anyone standing up and put a stop to it.

    Freedom is one thing - plain stupidity and to cause wasting resources of third parties forced to be looking into this issue is another matter.

    In Germany - something similar to an injuction: "show what you have or shut up, you are causing damage to your business with this" smacked right into SCO's face and, due to their failed response, they pay penalty if they do it again. Silence is the result.

    Why is this not happening in US?
