AMD dropped prices on the Athlon on Jan 28. They discontinued the 500 chip.
On Feb 28/29 prices dropped again and they discontinued the 550 chip.
Will they drop again at the end of this month? Who knows.
You can find a 550 at a bargain and if you get the right week number, find out what core is inside and overclock that puppy easily to over 700 mhz. Check HERE to see what cores are in which week number production CPUs
You won't find AMD reducing prices of their high CPUs anytime soon I don't think.
Not only that, with the recent price drops on AMD chips, you can purchase a 700 mhz Athlon CPU for approximately $265. Add $60 for an overclock card and bam! 850 mhz no problem. Not bad in my book.
That's an interesting point, one I've been thinking for a while
I may be talking bull*** out of my mouth here but I was wondering why, or if there is any, any of the chip companies working on ways to create processors using laser technology versus electric?
Catch my drift? This IS pretty much way over my head. But you guys are smarter so that's why I'm asking:)
Yup, he sounded evasive. And clueless as well on some questions.
I don't know. All I know is that 18 months from now the technology today will seem very primitive. Technology is just baffling everyone in the celerity with which it's looping, so the answer is, I can't give you an answer. But by God, we're going to find one. We're devoting a lot of resources, with our kinsmen in the copyright arena. Yeah? Well you guys are definitely not working fast enough.
PB, I've had an Athlon for close to a month now. I REALLY like it. For the price you can't beat it. And AMD will do ANOTHER price drop at the end of this month! woohoo! For around $300 you can get CPU and MB and smoke a P3!
You are correct AMD != Linux, but I was merely suggesting that Dell made a great move going towards Linux, but they are reluctant to try AMD, which might possibly hurt them more than already has.
Anyone who says, such as Dell himself, that this is a short term problem is wrong.
Dell has had trouble with Intel for the past 12 months from what I've been reading
PHAT not FAT
PHAT - Pretty Hot And Terrific
He wants $39.99 for that DVD? Talk about greedy.
Let me guess, he will have no sunlight whatsoever.
Good luck finding a PIII 800 anywhere.

Apparently you don't know Econ 101 or Marketing 101.
Being the FIRST one there, gives you a competitive avantage. The market DOES look at this.
Just look at Yahoo.
Yes but AMD was the first there with the 1Ghz chip NOT Intel.
I'm no chip designer, but why are we sill using transisters?
Any research being done on the possible use of lasers in chips?
You want this then:

Unfortunately, I know people who have to have the fastest proc on the block! Sad, but true.
And when I try telling people about AMD Athlon they are like "AMD. I heard they had a lot of trouble working with windows." ARGH!

And you can't even find the 750/850 P3s.
Where? All I keep getting is 4.08. :(

Not involved? C'mon!
Evasive?

The FIC-SD11 and MSI's seem to be the most stable.
There are new ones coming out.
This is a list of where people have the most problems, in order of most occurences, as far as I can tell:
1. Power Supply 2. Memory 3. Video Card
AMD's website has this page that shows you their recommended memory, power supplies, video cards, etc. Just follow this and you're golden!
There's a LOT of Athlon boards out there now. You can get them for under $150!
And Athlon price drop is coming end of this month, Feb 28, err 29th, leap year!

AMD has still come out first with a better proc
Using your facts, Intel is having trouble producing it's 6th gen CPU, while AMD is not
Looks like AMD is doing pretty darn well.
Look at my above comment, sorry got in the wrong parent. Yikes that sounds bad! :)

The AMD Athlon blows away the PIII or Coppermine.
I'll tell you where it's going.
:)
It's going straight to Dell's losses from not being able to sell enough Intel machines.
Going to Linux, and they won't go with AMD chips? Tsk, tsk, tsk.
I think it's great they are packaging computer with Linux, this is a good thing..
Alas, Dell refuses to sell computers with AMD which will still hurt them..
People will not payer higher prices for Intel.
What do you think they should have used for their encryption and what do you think they will do next w/r/t encryption of DVD?
Thanks. I will try it this weekend. I have cable modem so 90 meg download is no problem :)
I played the first one, for the first time last year. Work allows me little time to play unfortunately. I LOVED the first one.
My question is can a newbie play this game or do you need experience from the previous two?
Thanks
